The Exped MegaMat 10 LXW is part of the new generation of self-inflating mats and provides a sleeping surface that is level, right to the edges. These mats are perfect for campers who want luxurious sleeping comfort!
The velvety surface fabric is laminated to hollow cored foam that has a minimal packed size considering it expands to a massive 10cm in height, and provides superior insulation. FlatValve technology incorporates two separate valves for easy inflation, deflation, and adjustment of the mat pressure during use. Exped is an innovative Swiss brand that stands by the quality of its products, which is why each Exped mat is individually tested for airtight integrity prior to shipment. All mats are designed to withstand 5 times the pressure attained during normal inflation, and they back their products with a 5-year warranty.
With a smart pack-sack that has a roll-top opening and an adjustable carry strap for easier transport – the MegaMat 10 LXW from Exped is the simple choice when it comes to quality and comfort.
Hi. I have one megamat 10LXW and keen on another. Will two fit ok in the RX5? Keen on now overlap and some room in the sides. If not is there an alternative double mat that would suit?
G'day Ari,
The floor space of the main tent in the RX5 in 260cm x 260cm.
One of the Megamat 10LXW is 197cm x 77cm, so two mats would totaly 197cm x 154cm, leaving you with plenty of room.
Does this mat retain it's firmness on cold nights? I have had two other brands in the past that deflate, due to the cold, during the night. According to the manufacturers this is normal. I have tested both mats for air leaks and found none and have since binned them. $600 down the drain to date.
G'day Philip,
Air expands when hot, and contracts when cold, which is a matter of science & can't be avoided, but admittedly I've not heard of it affecting self-inflating mats before - especially to the point where they "deflate"
I imagine if that was the case, that you pump your mat up to the required pressure, and if its cold weather you'd give it abit more air to offset any loss of firmness.
Any idea where to get replacement valves for this mat?
Which Exped MegaMat is 100cm wide for my king single stretcher? The MegaMat duo 10 is listed as 104 cm wide on the exped site, but I can't find one that width on your site. Cheers.
G'day Shari,
We don't actually stock Exped's Duo 10's - we only range the Duo 10 LW , which means extra length & extra width.
There's no Exped mat that we carry that's 100cm sorry!
The best options would be the Darche Supreme Snoozer in either the 110cm wide or the 90cm wide versions.
Hi snowys Would this size exped mattress fit on top of a Helinox max cot? Many thanks
G'day Alison,
We don't stock the Helinox Cot Max, but all measurements indicate it will be a great combo.
I'm sure it will give you a very comfortable sleep!
What is the best repair kit for the exped MegaMats. I can’t seem to find the holes
G'day Shaun,
If it's just small holes then Gear Air Seam Sealer is an awesome option.
If you are needing to repair larger tears, using the Seam Sealer with some nylon ripstop fabric that you can score from a local fabric store, should do the trick.
Locating holes in a mattress can be a bit tricky - you can use the soapy spray bottle trick, or even submerge in a bathtub of water. Neither of these options will damage your mat.
Please get in touch if you're still having trouble!
What glue can I use on seM of exped mat
G'day Marie,
We would suggest using some Seam Grip Sealer and Adhesive that you can find here.
Does this have a weight limit? Want to know if heavier people can use this
G'day Kelly,
The Exped mats don't have a tested weight limit but they can take a lot of weight so a heavier person shouldn't have any trouble using the mat. Taking some air out of the mat can make it a bit more comfortable too.
Wondering if exped mattresses are glued to the sides of the outer material on the inside? I have a different brand that is already a bit uncomfortable. It bulges at the sides with a definite gap between the foam inner and the outer layer material (oztrail)
G'day Roger,
Exped mattresses are fully bonded, meaning the outer mattress material is adhered to the top and bottom of the mattress foam core.
The side wall of self-inflating mattress won't ever be bonded, as the mat needs to fully compress flat to roll up - if the side wall was glued to the foam, this couldn't happen and the material would likely tear away.
The side wall bulging slightly when fully inflated is normal, as demonstrated in the product pictures, and should not have any impact on comfort.
Hope that helps.
Will the Exped MatCover $89.95 fit this mat ( which I already have). Not sure about the 10cm on the mat versus the 9 cm referred to with the bag. Looking for a bag to store the inflated mat in the garage.thanks
G'day Lucy,
The Exped Mat Cover LW wouldn't fit this mat as it isn't wide enough and wouldn't be able to zip up. The Exped Mat Cover LW is designed to fit the LW-sized smaller hiking mats in their range. The Exped Organic Cotton Mat Cover LXW is designed to fit this mattress as a cover, although isn't a complete bag for the mat.
You could use something like a separately available Mattress Bag or Quilt/Doona Cover to cover this up completely if you are wanting to store this away inflated. It doesn't look like there is a specific storage bag for this mat currently available to store this inflated.
Can you store/keep exped unrolled in roof top tent?
G'day Lesley,
We don't recommend keeping/storing your MegaMat inside a Rooftop Tent as it would risk damaging the mattress. Best to roll up the mattress in its own bag each time the RTT is packed away. There are Rooftop tent specific mats such as the Darche Roof Top Tent Mattress RTM 1400 that are designed to be packed away with the Rooftop tent.
I have a darche 1100. Is there a suitable air matress,that is 1100mm wide?
G'day Ryan,
The Darche 1100 All Terrain Mat is the only one we know of that is suitable for that sized swag.
It's more like the older heavier 4WD mats from the early 2000's, instead of the current self-inflating mats on the market.
Will this fit in the OZtrail Easy Fold Tent Stretcher Bed - Single?
G'day Dean,
Yes it will.
The Oztrail stretcher tent sleeping area dimensions are 198 x 80cm, the Megamat dimensions ate 197 x 77cm.
Hope that helps.
hi there - i'm looking for a mattress to fit into this tent: https://www.snowys.com.au/instant-up-10p-lighted-northstar-darkroom-tent I read this test can fit queen size mattresses so just checking this is one of them? Thanks a mill! :)
Hi Sinead, if you haven't already check out our video on the tent at about 10:00 - https://youtu.be/ocYyEl6BFgM?t=2, you can see me fitting a queen size double high mat inside which measures about 150cm in width.
This Exped Duo Megamat measures just over 130cm in width and 10cm height which is much lower than the airbed in the video so it will fit easily but it's a double size rather than a queen.
A similar queen size self-inflating mat that we have is the Hexatherm 3D15 SP from Black Wolf which is also 15 cm thick but measures 150cm in width and will also fit.
Hope that helps.
~ Ben
We are a family of 4 trying to figure out how to fit sleep mats in the sv5 max. Would 3 of these mats joined together do the trick (kind of make a king size) or is there a better mat configuration you would recommend? Kids are 8 and 10. Exped is preferred but not essential if there something else that would fit better.
G'day Lisa,
The ideal layout with Exped mats is 1 x DUO & 2 x Single LXW mats. These basically give you 2.86m of mattress which is the whole width of the tent. It also allows space for the internal frame, and generally is the most common configuration families use.
Hope that helps!
I'm a fat side sleeper. How well with this perform in keeping my ribs off the ground?
G'day Adam,
Its hard to say exactly without you trying it out in person, we do get a range of different reports from people on the heavier side of things - both pros and cons. It may be worth looking at the 15cm version for extra thickness.
Will this fit in the Oztent Bunker Pro fit in the Oztent Bunker Pro?
G'day Leigh,
The sleeping Area dimensions on the Oztent Bunker Pro are 200L x 90W cm, so you'll have plenty of room for the Exped Megamat 10 LXW.
Hey, I have 2 megamat duo’s which are both 7 years old and have been amazing. I now need a single for a Darche 900 swag and was going to consider a sea to summit, or blackwolf megamat 3d instead. Other than weight and measurements, how do those two compare , especially when it comes to comfort ? I don’t really want to skimp, but if they are similar enough it’s a big saving. Thanks . Blair
G'day Blair,
It's a valid question!! All three mats are similar in size and shape, the differences primarily come down to comfort which is hard to make a clear call on because everyones bodies are different. Theres no doubt about the EXPED mats leading the charge here, and whilst the other two options have some great feedback, I personally find the S2S Comfort DLX has a slightly better overall feel and comfort. I also like their valve attachment, which has separate layers for inflating and deflating, as opposed to the Black Wolf which has a rotating valve that can come out and get lost.
Having said that, there are loads of positive reviews on the HexaTherm, so ultimately if you opt to go with either of these alternatives I think you'll be happy.
Hi, Looking for an option to put two mattresses side by side for couple sleeping options. Are any queen size stretchers big enough or what about two side by side single stretchers?
G'day Adam,
We tend to sell a mix of queen stretchers with mats or two single stretchers with mats depending on personal preference. All of the double/queen width stretchers have a central bar down the middle, which can be a bit tricky when paired with a queen mat, but if you use two single mats on top of a queen stretcher then that is a fairly popular option. The Oztrail Easy Fold Queen Stretcher in combination two Megamat 10 LXW mats is a good option, although you will end up with a little bit of mat overhang at the edges. Alternately king single stretchers are also popular, as they offer a little more flexibility if you plan to sometimes do solo trips.
I have a stretcher 65.5cm width. Will the exped Megamat 10 LXW be able to fit even though it is wider?
G'day Ken,
It should work with your stretcher, however, you'll probably find that the edges of the mat lift up a little, and the centre creates a bit of a depression given the sag in the stretcher fabric.
Can you store the mega mat rolled up with both valves left open I only ask this as house has mould ocasionally so can it be stored rolled up in bag to keep it safe
G'day Steve,
If you store the mat in the bag with the valves open it will likely take in a little air which might make it plump up a bit. I'd suggest storing it rolled up in the bag with the valves closed, and just getting it out to check and air a few times each year if you're worried about mould.
How do I clean the mattress when sticky liquid has been spilt on it?
G'day Jennie,
We'd recommend using a damp microfibre cloth with a small amount of mild soap to clean off the spillage on your mattress.
Had two of these wonderful mats for years, recently bought another 3, slowly replacing all our camping mats with expeds as kids turn to adults and appreciate a great nights sleep! Just wondering if you know anything about the “Exped Schnozzel Pumpbag UL“ - we had Black Wolf mats before and loved the system of using the bag to very quickly put extra air in mats, especially on those cold nights when you’re setting up late. It looks like this Schnozzel Pumpbag will do the same job for the exped, but i notice you don’t seem to stock them? Appreciate any help you can give! Thanks again Snowys
G'day Kate,
The Schnozzel is a frequently requested item, however, they're not available here in Australia. They are designed to fit the Exped mats with a 20mm valve, which is the same as the Sea to Summit mats. We do have access to the Sea to Summit Air Stream Pumpsack which is similar and should do the trick.
Hi - we have old Thermarest mattreseses (25 years old) and they are still pretty good. We are taking a long trip so planning to get a stretcher to get off the ground a bit, and wondering if we could just use the Thermarest (maybe not inflated) to keep ourselves comfortable at night or should we get a new Exped mat to be more comfortable? Also, how long does the Exped mat take to deflate and pack away?
G'day Nina,
You could pop your Thermrests onto your stretchers, that won't be a problem at all. If you're after luxury and comfort, then yes the Exped Megamat 10LXW will be a great option. They are very quick to pack away and have a deflate valve that will allow you to pack it away and roll it up in just a few minutes.
Say I have a problem with my mat in 3 yrs time (every single self inflating mat that I've purchased has broken after 1-2yrs) - can I actually return it to Snowys for a refund? or a replacement? In the past I have found that there are too many restrictions on 'warranties' for them actually to be valuable.
G'day Emma,
The warranty will cover you against any manufacturing defaults. We find that these mats are excellent quality, and we have very few issues with these mats. One common problem with self-inflating mattresses is small punctures if you get a puncture this isn't covered by warranty, but it can easily be remedied using the supplied repair kit and these instructions. If you do have any problems with the mat during the 5 year warranty, you can submit a warranty claim form and our team will get any issue sorted out for you.
Hi. Does snowy sell any other gear bag that would fit an Exped single. I too night mine a few yrs back and find the provided tight sack a pain. Thanks
G'day Helen,
Unfortunately, we don't have any gear bags that will fit the Megamat 10LXW other than the bags that are supplied with the mat themselves. We'd recommend squeezing all of the air out before you begin rolling the mat up so you can get a nice tight roll.
Hi I like a really firm mattress can the mega mat be pumped to be very firm? Thanks
G'day Troy,
You can use the hand pump that comes with the mattress to make the mattress firm, I would not use an air pump to force air into the mat as you may ruin it.
Have one of these - it's great - The single Oztrail Easy Fold stretcher looks, by dimensions, a good fit but only by a few centimetres. Will it work well with this or are we better to go to the Jumbo which is another 10cm wider to make sure it stays on well?
G'day Justin,
We find the best fit for the Megamat 10LXW is on the Easy Fold Single Jumbo Stretcher as it gives you a little more room to play with. It will fit on the single, but the 80cm width is right out to the edge of the sidebars, so it can cause a bit of a rise on the sides of the mat.
Your website says packed size is listed as 79cm wide. I'm looking at purchasing an aluminium box which is 78cm wide - is there any wriggle room with the packed megamat to enable it to be squeezed into the box I'm looking at?
G'day James,
There is a very small amount of wiggle room with the megamat, however, given that the mat itself is 77cm wide, you'll generally need more than 1cm wiggle room when rolling it up and popping it in the bag. I guess you can always pop it in on an angle.
Hi Im looking to buy the LXW for a swag. Has anyone any advise on using it in a swag? For example could you leave the mat inside a rolled up swag?
G'day Rob,
The Megamat 10LXW will be a great option to pop in a swag. A few of the staff members here use their Megamats in their swags and think that's the best way to go. Generally, your swag will roll a bit smaller with one of these mats, and yes you can roll it up inside the swag.
Thanks for the prior answer. I'm wondering if the hand pump can be connected to the outlet on the newer Downmat. The Schnorkel (I think it's called) can be, so wondering if the Megamat pump can too
G'day Connor,
Yes, you can attach the handpump to the Downmat (the fitting size is the same).
Bit of a random question, but can the pump that comes with the Megamat also be used with the Downmat? Cheers.
G'day Connor,
The Downmat 9LW Sleeping Mat has a built-in hand pump that essentially does the same thing as the separate pump that comes with the Megamat, so it won't work unless you have an older Downmat (over 5 years old) that doesn't have the built-in hand pump with handprints on it.
Hi Looking to get this mat with a swag. What swags do you recommend/sell that this mat will fit inside? Mainly looking for Single/king single swags. Thanks
G'day Tim,
With so many great swag options it's hard to choose just one, but the Megamat 10LXW will work with the Darche 900 range, The 23Zero 900 range and most of our Oztrail range.
Does it fit in Darche dirty dee 900? Work well? And can be left inside the swag and rolled up together?
G'day Dan,
You can certainly sue the Megamat 10LXW in the Dirty Dee 900. The mat will be approximately 10cm narrower than the swag itself but it will be a great option. You can roll the swag up with the mat inside, you may just want to push some of the air out through the deflate valve before you start rolling, but it can certainly be rolled inside.
I see some prev comments re this question but they are quite old. Would need to suit hard floor and Tent floor.
G'day Trudy,
The Exped Megamat 10LXW will fit most of the wider stretchers that are 80cm wide or more. We think the Oztent King Goanna Stretcher and Oztrail Easy Fold Single Jumbo Stretcher are great options, or if you're after a slightly wider stretcher the Darche XL 100, Outdoor Connection Sundowner Titan, or Oztent RS-1 Stretcher are also great options.
Big sky deluxe stretcher Coleman
G'day Trudy,
Yes you can certainly use the Megamat 10LXW on the Coleman Big Sky Stretcher Bed Deluxe. The mattress is a few centimetres wider than the stretcher so just keep that in mind. The other thing to be careful of is the springs on the stretcher, we'd suggest laying something over the springs so they don't accidentally cause a hole in your mat.
(Single size)
G'day Caroline,
If its a short time between inflates, probably around 1-1.5 hours with abit of manual inflation to fine tune it. If its been a few months between trips, and stored rolled up, aim for around 3-4 hours.
For example when comparing to the Bomberpad Mattress from Zempire What do you get got passing three times the price. The amount of reviews for this product makes me think allot.
G'day Sean,
The Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat is often referred to as a premium or luxury item here at Snowys. Exped is willing to back the item for 5 years, and we currently have over 100 5-star reviews on the product. They are comfortable, long lasting, excellent quality foam and have a high R-value (insulation value). The Zempire Bomberpad is cheaper but is also thinner, uses lower quality foam, has no measured R-value, and is only backed with a 1-year warranty. There are still a good product but not quite the same level as the Exped.
Hi! Sounds like this would be fantastic for winter camping, what about summer? Would it be crazy hot? I'll be using it in my black wolf Delta 4 with a stretcher. Have others used it in hot, humid weather?
G'day Virginia,
The Megamat 10LXW is a good mat in all conditions, in summer it will be no warmer than your bed at home.
Hello! I toss & turn all night every night so find camping a nightmare - but love it! I've have a Coleman camp stretcher and have used a Denali self inflating mat - good but thin. Tried an el cheapo single air mattress - kept almost rolling out into the floor as the air pushed me from one side of the mattress to the other. Then bought a Dune 4wd mat - terrible! I sank through it, so had to blow it up, then it ballooned and threw me around like the el cheapo air mattress. Ended up having it at self inflated level & slept in a trench in the middle, laying on the bottom with air mattress ballooning around me. Then there's the noise!! From all of these amazingly helpful reviews, questions and answers, and your thorough information, I think what I'm understanding is that this mat won't give me any of those same issues? If I lay on the side is not going to collapse and roll me out of bed?
G'day Virginia,
The Exped Megamat 10LXW will be the best option I can think of for a restless sleeper. We have a few staff here with these mats and they all think they're the
Brooke asked a year ago about the availability of the updated bag with the megamat as a separate purchase. Has this situation changed at all, as I also find the older style bag difficult to use? Thanks
G'day Andrew,
Unfortunately, we're not able to get the Smart Pack Sacks separately to the mats. They are supplied as a complete unit with the mat.
I’ve just received my new mat. On your video you suggest leaving the inflation valve open for 48 hours. The instructions say to open the inflation valve and push the toggle in. Which do you recommend? Thank you
G'day Samantha,
Your best option will be to follow the instructions Exped provide with the Megamat to get the air flowing initially. Generally, they will need a while to inflate the first time you unroll them, hence the 48 hour suggestion.
Just wondering which way would be the way to fit 2 of these inside a Oztent RV5
G'day David,
I've just had a play with our display model RV5 and some Megamat 10LXWs and I think the best use of space would be to put them in lengthways (i.e. foot or head at the door), this way you have room either side for bags etc. If you go width ways it will also fit but someone will always be on the lower sloped side, which could also work. Up to you but I'd go length ways!
Would this mat work with a helinox cot 1?
G'day Robert,
It's hard to say whether the Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat would fit on the Helinox Cot 1 as we don't sell the Helinox to check. Having a quick look at the dimensions on their website indicates to me that the Megamat is likely a little too wide and long to fit through.
I purchased the Megamat 10LXW camp mat on the weekend. I'm tring to find the Mat Sheet LXW Product No.: 7640171990170 but cannot locate one. The genuine product looks brilliant. The reviews on the Black Wolf Fitted Mat Sheet - Single say they are they are too tight. Can you help to find the Exped Mat Sheet LXW please?
G'day Pete,
I've checked with our purchasing team and unfortunately, these aren't available currently from our Australian supplier. I'll put in a suggestion to them as you're not the first person to ask, but in the meantime, you might need to look into alternatives or try to source one from overseas sorry.
Hi, I'm looking for a new mat to take kayaking, so I'll need to get a dry bag for it as well. The storage bag closes like a dry bag, but is it actually waterproof? Thank you Louise
G'day Louise,
Just to be sure, I've been downstairs to have a look at the stuff bag that comes with the Exped Megamat 10LXW camp mats and they're not seam sealed, so they won't work as a dry sack. They'll be splash proof but for kayaking, you'll need something more substantial to truly keep it dry on the water. I tested our biggest dry sack, the 65L Big River Bag from Sea to Summit and it's still too short. I think you'll need to inquire at a specialist kayaking retailer for a long, skinny dry bag.
Do you sell the little rubber inserts that make the valves? I have two of these exped megamat 10lxw beds and they are great but these little valve parts fall out and I have lost two. The deflate valve is ok without but the inflate doesn't work well without this piece so I need to replace it. Can you help?
G'day Helen,
Sorry for the slow reply, I've just been trying to track these down for you. We can more than likely help you out here but I'll get you to send us an email to service@snowys.com.au with some pictures of the valves on the mat (or the rubber part if you still have one) so we can make sure to send you the correct part.
Hi Tim, thanks for your reply! The parts are called 'one way valve flaps' for the inflation & deflation valves and they are shown in the first 'details' picture here: httpww.exped.com/australia/en/product-category/mats/megamat-10-lxw-green# Hope that helps, thanks again
G'day Helen,
No worries I'm sure we can help you out here. If you can send us an email at service@snowys.com.au we'll follow this up and get one sent out to you.
Hi, I'm after Megamat 10 M and need 5 of them all in green, is this possible to special order in? how long would it take? and how much would they be? thank you.
G'day Kevin,
Every now and then we can get our hands on special order items from Exped but your best bet would be to give us a buzz on 1300 914 007 and chat to our customer service team who will be able to help you out with potentially getting some in.
Hi, I'lm considering to purchase two 10 LXWs to fit in my camper. The problem is that the sleeping area (with hard side walls) is 1440 mm wide and (on paper) two LXWs next to each other are 1540mm wide. Will it be possible to squeeze them in, or will that not work?
G'day Ed,
You'll definitely be able to squeeze two of the Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mats to fit your space, you might just end up with a bit of a bulge in the middle, that's all. I'd suggest not fully inflating them so that the air doesn't create a bulge when you squeeze them in to fit. Alternatively, you might want to look at buying a double.
I have a Zempire Speedy Stretcher Bed I purchased from you and would like to know if this Exped Mega Mat 10 LXW would fit or is it to wide ? I use it in a tent and also in my boat when doing overnight fishing trips.
G'day David,
The Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat is a little big for the Zempire Speedy Stretcher Bed. It'll still work fine but just make sure you don't roll off the edge!
Hi Mate could you suggest a mat of similar quality that would fit better , I have back issues so really need the comfort.
G'day David,
As far as width is concerned, your best bet would be the Zempire Megamat Single Camp Mat, it's only going to be about 2cm wider than your stretcher bed. The length is 1cm longer than the Exped, however.
Looking at the pictures of the mat's bag/stuff sack... would there be enough space to roll the mat and a sleeping bag laid on top of the mat together, and fit them into the bag like that? Or stuff a sleeping bag in with the mat in the bag/stuff sack? Thanks. (Understand the answer will also depend on size of sleeping bag!)
G'day Renee,
Provided that you fold the Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat nice and tight, you should have no worries at all with stuffing a sleeping bag around the mattress inside the bag. The bags do have a bit of room around the mattress inside.
Does this have to be stored flat?
G'day Craig,
I'd suggest that the best way to store your Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat would be to deflate it and then roll it up. Leaving any air in it or simply folding it over would make it really bulky for storage.
Can Snowys order me the outfitter version of this pad? I was interested in a price for 2 mats. Thanks!
We can't help you on that one sorry Jez, we'd have to meet factory minimums to order from Exped, and for a small number of mats, their final shelf price would be huge.
I'm not even sure of the difference between the regular Megamat and the Outfitter model, it looks like the Outfitter just has heavier outer fabrics, I'd have to look into that further.
Long story short, we're not going to be able to help you on this one sorry.
How much can you pump these up without doing damage? You also mention topping up if it’s not fully expanded on its own. But then the foam will still be depressed - how long to get the foam close to 100%? Is it hours or days? I don’t want to sleep on mostly air and only 50% foam for example. But also don’t want to wait 48hours to sleep on it. I’m thinking about those times you get to site late and by the time you set up camp it’s bed time - despite all the best plans this usually happens to me. And my wife always give me a hard time over it LOL.
These mats will always need a little help to inflate fully Jez, that's why they come with a mini pump as an inflation aid. If you store the mat in an uncompressed state and only roll it up right before a trip, you can expect the mat to have inflated as much as it can by itself within a few minutes, then you will need a few more minutes with the mini pump to make it tight.
From new, these mats take a while to inflate as they have been stored in a compressed state since leaving the factory, you'd be best taking it out of its packaging and leaving it for a few days when new, and you'll need to use the mini pump a fair bit initially, but this issue only exists when it is new or if the mat is stored rolled tightly.
As for damaging the mat, they are factory tested to about 5 times the pressure of what would be considered normal inflation, so you're more likely to pass out from hyperventilation or exhaustion than damage the mat unless you are using a high powered pump, which is not recommended.
We sell tons of these mats every year, they are tried and tested and are providing sound sleep for campers across the globe. I hope this helps.
Before I purchase I need to understand how durable it is? The darche description says you can roughhouse it and it’ll last. Is this as durable? If not how tough is it? Seems very soft and maybe easy to tear in the video?
It's a durable mat Jez, but as with any inflatable product, some care needs to be taken to reduce the risk of punctures. In comparison to the Darche mats, the fabrics are probably not as heavy duty, but on the flip side of this, they have a much more comfortable and less slippery surface to sleep on. I have had a double Exped may in my swag for over four years, it's put up with kids using it as a trampoline and seen us through a number of outback trips, and I've never had to repair a puncture. Hopefully, this gives you some insights into the durability of the mat.
Thinking of using this with the Oztrail Easy Fold Single Stretcher. What is the difference between using this with the Oztent King Goanna Stretcher (which has the end bars) as opposed to the Oztrail Easy Fold that does not have the end bars. Is there any difference, or are the end bars just for extra stabilization?
G'day Sheree,
Getting the right stretcher for your Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat can sometimes be a stressful thought process but rest assured that either of the two you're looking at would be great options. The King Goanna's end bars certainly give some stability to the stretcher but also make it a little more rigid. The Oztrail will have a little more give in it but both are rated to 150kg so one won't be better necessarily than the other.
Red vs green apart from colour any difference?
G'day Kurt,
The Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mats in red and green are exactly the same, except for the colour.
Hello, why is there a price difference between the green and red version. The red is on sale whereas the green is at the full price? Also, when is your sale ending? thank you
G'day Sonia,
We're only running the sale on the red Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat because we've not got enough stock of the green at the moment to run the sale on both. As for the timing of the sale, it's dependant on our stock levels, it might be for another day or so or it might stretch out as long as a week. I know it's not overly committal but it's the closest estimate I can give you for now.
And the cost
G'day Dianne,
We do sell the Exped Mini Pump separately. You can find it on our website here.
Whilst travelling to destination we put all our sleeping bags and mattresses in a black roof bag on top of our car. On previous mattresses I have left the seal open but rolled up to allow for expansion due to direct heat if I was to buy one of these should I do the same.
G'day Sandra,
Absolutely, that would be recommended. We always encourage that any self-inflating mats be stored with the valve open and even during the day at camp, to keep the valve's open to prevent heat from stretching the laminated fabric.
