Coleman Chalet 9 CV Family Dome Tent

The floor area of the chalet 9 is 600L x 280W cm.
There's no groundsheet specifically made to fit this, so anything with dimensions as close to that as possible is best.
Slightly smaller would be better as you wont have to peg through the groundsheet and make holes, otherwise you may have to fold it back.
The 10P Northstar could be a good option worth considering.
You also need to consider whether or not you want any of the awning area covered, and how much.
It may mean that you'd need more than one size & piece 2 together, or get a single huge one that covers the total area.
Check out the Ultramesh Tarp for an alternative option.

Yes, you absolutely can.  This tent has the same materials and fly throughout all sections, the only consideration is if you want to have the awning up at the front like a mini verandah, you'll only have a single layer of the tent there.
Generally, that shouldn't be an issue at all, unless you're expecting heavy rain.

The middle grey poles can be set up under or over the yellow poles depending on the order you lay the poles out, it doesn't actually matter. I'd generally have the grey poles going under, purely because I'm an attention to details type of person. The poles are the same diameter, but the Grey pole is longer as they go across the top of the tent on a diagonal. The spare piece you received with your tent can be used on any of the poles.

Any tent will trap air and heat as they are essentially covered with a waterproof layer!
The Chalet 9 has ventilation panels in the tent inner roof of the central room, and multiple doors and windows.
Your best for ventilation & keeping it as cool as possible will be to open up all the door and window panels on the external fly to try and get some breeze moving through.
Setting your tent up in a shaded area will also have a positive impact on internal temperatures.

You can fit 2 x Oztrail easy Fold Single Stretchers, or 1 x Oztrail Easy Fold Queen Stretcher into the side rooms of the Chalet 9CV Tent.

Generally, the way to fix the poles on a dome tent, like the Chalet 9CV will be to just replace any broken sections of the pole as Coleman (and other dome tent manufacturers) don't sell individual pole kits. You'll need to double-check your tent, but the poles should be 11mm in diameter, you can find replacement section packs here, and instructions on how to conduct repairs here. If you're completely missing the yellow poles, then, unfortunately, you'll need to create an entire new pole using replacement section packs.

Yes we're sure that the bag is 53cm wide, I'm not too sure which tent you're comparing this one too, but that Chalet 9CV packs down fairly short and wide compared to their instant up style range which are longer and skinnier.

You won't need to use a tarp over the Chalet 9CV tent. They come equipped with a 3000mm waterproof rating so they will stand up to a fair bit of rain with no troubles.

Thanks for touching base, the Chalet 9 CV doesn't have a specific wind rating like some of the other models, however, I can confirm that this style is generally fairly rugged and will perform well in windier conditions as long as all of the tie down and guy ropes points are pegged out.

The fan Kev was referring to in the video is the Coleman CPX Lighted Tent Fan. These come with a magnetic plate you can use to attach it to the walls/ceiling of the tent. The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is some extra pegs that might be more suitable for either sandy ground or really hard rocky ground.

We think the best groundsheet for the Coleman Chalet 9 CV is the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp in the 3.05 x 6.1m size.

You can fit one if the Coleman Double High Quickbeds into the Chalet 9 CV end rooms you just have to move it a little closer to the entrance door due to the angle of the tent side.

I'm pretty sure it makes sense! Here's my explanation, let me know if it doesn't answer your question. The flysheet has a door that can be lifted up to use as an awning and inside that, the tent inner has both a mesh and solid privacy door. So you can leave the awning up, but still maintain privacy inside the tent. I hope that helps!

I often recommend the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp for people looking for a groundsheet for larger tents. Although with the size of the tent and the fact that you're wanting to have some tarped area for a table & chairs, none of them will be quite big enough. It might be worth your while looking at grabbing a couple that you can put together to create a larger area.

Great question. It is possible to fit the Oztrail Bunk Bed, but as you mention, it's certainly a bit tight for space. It really depends on how you want to configure your layout. With the Chalet 9 CV, some squeeze it in on the sides of the room, while I've heard others place through the middle of the room and work around it.

The end section of the Coleman Chalet 9 CV Family Dome Tent is 200cm x 280cm which gives you two options to consider.

You can either look to fit 3x narrow sleeping mats (for instance, the Zempire Bomber Pad available here is only 76cm wide). However, this doesn't leave you much spare floor space.

Alternatively, you can look to add an Oztrail Bunk Bed which are available here or here. These allow you to double up the sleeping arrangements in a vertical sense, and as a result, then gives you additional floor space.

Unfortunately, there is no waterhead rating provided for either these polyoxford or polyethylene floors. However, feedback has told us that both provide an incredible barrier against water. In all honesty, I don't think you could go wrong with either on floor materials with these two tents.

You're spot on in terms of wind, in that the Chalet 9 CV will provide greater structural support due to its design, however again, the Instant Up range has proven (when set up with guy ropes) to be a very durable tent through weather conditions. The obvious upside to the Instant Up is the setup time and the time you save.

The Chalet 9 CV Plus model was discontinued a while ago, and as far as I can find out from the supplier, the vestibule is not available as a separate item to purchase.

Hi Liz. Thanks for your question. The Chalet 9 CV Family Dome Tent has a small LED light on a lanyard which is placed just inside the door with the function to allow you to find your way inside the tent when it is dark. It isn't really designed as a light that will illuminate your tent at night time, however there are tent lights on the market that can do this for you, or you could simply use a lantern to do the same thing. Companion LED Utility Tent Light would be a good option or the Companion Tent Fan with LED Light for the warmer months of the year.

Hi Andrew, there's a pocket in each end room. The pockets are divided into sections - some long and skinny, which would be perfect for storing torches, and some smaller which would be good for the phone or keys. All up there are 9 sections in each pocket.

There are no 'off-the-shelf' solutions to your query Marta, you could lay an extra layer of fabric such as an old bedsheet between the fly and inner tent to block out more light. The tent itself is reasonably dark, but nowhere near as dark as a room in a house with blockout curtains. Canvas tents block more light, but these are bulkier to handle and come at extra cost. Hi Nat, this tent isn't difficult to pitch, it just takes longer than the Instant Up range. You certainly get more tent for your dollar when you purchase a traditional framed tent with flexible fibreglass poles rather than the instant up frames. They tend to perform better in wind and are easier to repair given they don't need specific brackets or steel pole parts. It is always a trade off, but if you want the best tent space for your dollar, the Chalet 9 is a good choice.

With a bit of practice, I reckon about 15 - 20 minutes is a good indication of set-up time. As another user mentioned here, the first time they set theirs up it took about 25 minutes, but once you know which pole goes where and ironed out some inefficiencies, it's pretty straightforward.

When it comes to larger tents, the dome style is possibly easier to manage than the instant up tents by one person in windy conditions. If the wind catches the instant up tents and you're not keeping a hold on the frame, it could very quickly turn into a mangled mess. The flexible poles on a tent like the Chalet 9 are more forgiving in this situation.
