Named in honour of Oztent’s late owner Shane Viglione, the brand has now brought his last design to life in the form of the spacious and extra livable SV-5 Max Tent.
It’s comprised of a patent-pending angled frame design which creates a 3m wide front that still sets up in just 30 seconds with sloped walls for more useable space. It’s constructed from Oztent’s trusted 8oz Ripstop polycotton canvas, with No-See-Um Mesh fly screens for ventilation and insect protection, and a heat-sealed PVC tub floor to keep you dry from the ground up. Inside there’s a SkyMesh Skylight which unzips to provide you with airflow in your shelter plus a stellar celestial view as you sleep. At the front, the peaked awning tapers out 3.5m wide and comes with a zip-in tarp extension providing 5 metres of frontage so you can ditch your gazebo.
The poles for the peaked awning are included as well as pegs and ropes, plus a carry bag for transporting and storing your tent. Create a roomy and protective shelter and uncover area at your campsite with the innovative SV-5 Max Tent from Oztent.

hi there, can the tent accommodate 2 king singles and a standard single?
G'day James,
If you are talking about sleeping mats, and you want to use them on the floor then yes, absolutely.
The sleeping area of the tent is 250L x 300W cm
Hi Snowys, been wanting to purchase a RX5 and noticed you don't sell it anymore. I have noticed the new SV 5 that has been added into the Oztent range. Can you tell me the main differences between the 2 and which would be suitable for a family of 5 and potentially with additions. Is the RX5 discontinued?
G'day Mei,
The RX is not discontinued, and is available on our website here.
The SV5 has been around for a few years, and is an extension of the RV series, being made from the same materials, etc. The main difference is the extended annex, and the tapered tent which gives more of a trapezoid floor space. Whilst it does have more overall cover, the shape of the floor makes it abit harder to neatly fit a range of sleeping mats.
You wont be able to fit a family of 5 in the main tent only so you will need to utilise the awning room as a second bedroom.
The RX5 has no optional accessories or additions. Whilst the awning room is a fully sealed tent roon expansion, this means you won't have an outdoor covered living space. If an outdoor living space is important to you, you will need to pack an additional shelter for this purpose.
The RV/SV series do have walls available to create an awning 'room', but there is no option to seal off the floor. That means that this 'room' will either be exposed ground, or you can use the Mesh Floor Saver.
The RV series has an option to add a side awning extension. The SV & RV Plus tents have a front awing extension option.
Check out the following for two rooms and an outside sheltered space:
For the RX you would need:
- tent
- additional shelter
For the SV Max you would need:
- tent
- all walls
- floor saver
*scroll to the bottom of this link to see all these items as a package deal.
For the RV5 Plus you would need:
- tent
- Side & Front Wall
- floor saver
- front awning extension
Hope that helps and gives abit more info to consider.
Hi Snowys, Just wondering if you've had the opportunity to put 2 x big double sleeping mats in the SV5 tent to see if they fit with the tapered footprint. We would love to put the Oztrail Fatmat 1500 alongside a Zempire Twin size Monstamat but not sure if they'd fit in practice. Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!
G'day Aaron,
They wont fit, I'm sorry. The two mats combined are 282cm wide, the SV-5 starts at 280cm at the door, and tapers down to 240cm at the back of the frame, and then to 210cm at the rear wall.
You may be able to get away with squeezing 2 x 132cm wide mats, but nothing more than that.
Would the sides for an RV-5 fit an SV-5? Thanks
G'day Chris,
The RV and SV are different tent ranges so are not interchangeable or compatible.
You can find the side walls in the You Might Also Like section, or jump over to them here.
Hi. I understand that the internal area of the Oztent SV-5 MAX doesn't have a "square" floor (the website seems to state that the 'front to back' internal floor dimension is 2.5m, and the internal width at the front is 3m, but doesn't state the internal width dimension at the rear of the tent). Can you please advise of the internal floor dimensions, including the rear width?
G'day Matt,
Check out our Features video around the 11:00 mark where Ben runs through all varying inner dimensions of the SV-5.
This covers width and height variations.
Hope that helps!
Hi, could this tent be attached to the OZtent Foxwing 270 awning?
G'day Ken,
No, unfortunately not - the SV-5 is not compatible with the Foxwing, they are different sizes and have different zip configurations.
You'll be able to butt the tent up to the edge of the foxwing, but their wont be a physical attachement option, I'm sorry!
Just a bit concerned about the weight and getting it onto a roof rack. Do the panels come in separate bags? I understand the poles and pegs would be separate and in their own bag.
G'day Annette,
No, there's no separate bags for different components.
You can watch the How to Set Up and Pack away video with Ben, published on the product page, to see how the tent comes fully packed up, and also to see the different components laid out.
You may want to pull that apart and store different parts inside your vehicle, but how you do that would be personal preference.
Hope that helps!
Good day, Can you add a tagalong tent to the SV 5 Max? Cheers
G'day Raymond,
No, the RV Tagalong series is not compatible with the Oztent SV-5.
Hi, just wondering if you have the measurements for the space at the back of the tent (i.e. the space available between the rear internal bar and the rear of the tent). Thanks.
G'day Kellie,
We don't have a display model to measure for you, however we've measured the RV5 which has similar dimensions toward the rear section. It is 50cm from the back edge of the frame, to the back edge of the floor. Hopefully that helps.
We would like to cook under the awning using a snowpeak fire pit and cast iron Dutch oven. Would this be possible under the extended awning of the sv5?
G'day Simon,
It's not something we'd recommend as there may be a risk of damage to the tent fabric from the heat or smoke. It may work ok with a small amount of wood, however you'd also want to be sure that the smoke doesn't get trapped under the awning and is getting blown away.
Hi. i'm interested in the oztent max but it would be extremely heavy for me to lift onto the roof racks. Can you offer a solution? thank you
G'day Belinda,
If you're wanting to use this tent for just one of you then I think something like a kayak lifter attachment for your roof racks would probably work quite well depending on the model of roof racks you've got. Aside from this, my other suggestion would be to prop one end up on the rack first, and then lift or slide the other end up and into place.
Hi, quick tip, you can take the peg and pole bag out of the main bag and it does shed a noticeable few kilos off the bag weight , then place the peg and poles in the car ...I have this tent and it is fantastic...
