Can I use a vacuum cleaner to rapid-deflate the Monstamat K-SGL?
G'day Ronnie,
I've heard of people doing that before without too man issues. Just be mindful that as it will be super compressed, the next time you set it up it may need abit more time to inflate, or some extra air pumped into it.
We have been using an exped mattress and it is super noisy. Wondering is these are noisy when you move on them?
G'day Mim,
That's a tough one to answer because Ive never heard anyone describe the EXPED mats as noisy.
I'd suggest it more likely a result of the sleeping bag material you're using, which seems to be the cause of noise with hiking mats.
The material on all of our self-inflating mats is the same style as Exped, so you may also find the Monstamat noisy.
Using a fitted sheet could be a good option to help offset that.
Hey team, looking at upgrading and getting the self inflating mattress to replace my 75mm thick foam mattress but need to know if this will roll up ok with my swag as it will permanently live in there. I’ve got no interest in keeping them separate. Is it easy enough to set them on deflate and roll up in the swag together?
G'day Simon,
Yes, if you're thinking about swapping your swag mattress for the Monstamat, this will work! Just make sure you've got enough room in your swag for it.
They will deflate pretty quickly with the valve in deflate mode, so we'd recommend flipping the valve to deflate, folding your swag in half to push out as much air as you can, and then start rolling up your swag with the mattress valve pointed away from you.
If I want to put more air into the mat, what would be a suitable air pump? Do you have any recommendations?
G'day Sungjin,
Other than blowing more air in with your mouth, the Zempire Super 2-Way Pump will work with the Zempire MonstaMats, you'll need to hold it close as they don't completely seal over the valve. This will help with the inflation and deflation of your mat, just be mindful not to over-inflate as this can damage the mattress.
Hi. Wondering the better buy for a zempire monstamat or the oztent stratus self inflating mattress? Am wanting to use it in an oztent pro bunker. Thankyou
G'day Melissa,
We didnt have the Stratus mats for very long, and haven't had them instock for a while.
Off the bat side by side they are similar in materials and comfort, so from that perspective there's no real standout.
Given that they are a relatively new mat having been released towards the end of last year, there's no long-term feedback that we can rely on to really compare the mats.
The Zempire mats have been around for several years and have a good reputation.
I'm sure if Oztent continue to provide a mattress option in the future, there's will end up being the same.
It would be the King Single mattress size in either brand that you'd want to go with for the best fit in the Bunker Pro.
I have two of these mats and can highly recommend them. Very comfortable and warm to sleep on. My question is in relation to deflation. I find them impossible to deflate enough to make them fit back in their storage bags, despite following the instructions. Can you recommend (perhaps) a pump (manual or rechargeable) to suck a little more air out. Thanks
G'day Kim,
We recommend turning the valves around to deflate, then rough folding your mat up & leaning on it/laying on it, pressing out as much air as you can before you start to roll it up. If you are able to do this the rolling part is alot more manageable & you can usually get a much tighter roll.
You can use a pump like the Oztrail or Coleman rechargeable options to assist with deflation, but the valves aren't perfectly compatible - should still do the trick though.
The trick is fold, unfold, then roll. Turn valve to deflate mode. Fold into thirds towards valve. Press your weight on it eg kneel on it, pushing majority of air out. Unfold. Roll, using your knee as you go, like rolling a swag up. By the end of your roll the small amount of air remaining is pushed out. Fits in the bag with room to spare, every time, and I find the roll-up is pretty much effortless.
If they get wet are they ruined?
G'day Tom,
They're not waterproof, but they also won't be ruined if they get wet.
Similar to a normal house mattress, just put it somewhere warm, with good airflow to dry - ideally out of direct sunlight.
Hi, is this okay to use in summer months with the high R rating or do you get too hot?
G'day Sean,
Yes, these mats are fine to use in summer. Higher R values won't cause a mat to be too hot.
Hi, I’m looking at buying either the Zempire Monstamat King Single or the BlackWolf Hexatherm Single 3D. Which do you consider the better buy?
G'day Lauren,
The Zempire Monstamats and Blackwolf HexaTherm 3D mats are both great options and will give you a pretty similar comfortable sleep. We've found that the Monstamat is slightly more popular overall, but the HexaTherm is a great buy too, it has just been on a market for a shorter time. Overall we can't decide for you, but the reviews on both are great, and I'm sure you'll be happy with either option.
Hi,I have the knowledge monstamat and need a stretcher to make getting up a little easier. Which stretcher would be best for it please?
G'day Kim,
The Zempire Speedy Stretcher Bed - King Single is a good option if you're wanting something from the same brand. The other popular option is the Oztrail Easy Fold Single Jumbo Stretcher.
Hi guys! I was wondering if the king single size will fit into the oztrail easy fold stretcher tent single or I better go to the single size Monstamat. Thanks in advance!
G'day Alejandro,
We've given this a whirl a few times, and the Single is a slightly better fit than the King Single. The King Single will just fit, but it's a very tight fit and will put some pressure on the fabric, so we'd recommend the Single.
What is the advantages of using a stretcher with this in terms of added comfort?
G'day Louise,
Generally popping a self-inflating mattress on top of a stretcher won't really add to the comfort of the already super comfortable mattress. The stretcher just raises you up off the ground so that you're not having to get up from the floor in the morning.
Hi is there a fitted sheet that will fit the monstamat king single (as per the armoire sheet for the standard mat)
G'day Jp,
The Black Wolf Fitted Mat Sheet does just fit the Zempire Monstamat King Single, however, the shape of the corners does put a little bit of strain on the sheet and the corners of the mat. We generally recommend butting a standard cotton bed sheet down to size.
Can you please confirm if the carry bag is rain / waterproof as I will need to transport this on the roof of our vehicle.
G'day Dylan,
The carry bag for the Monstamat is just made from a lightweight nylon so it's won't provide any rain/water protection. If you're wanting to carry it on your roof we'd suggest popping in in a roof rack bag, or grabbing yourself a PVC storage bag.
What would you say the weight rating is for this mattress? My husband is about 100kgs and is worried he will hit the floor in this.
G'day Laura,
There is no specified weight rating for these mattresses, and we have sold plenty of these to people around the 100kg weight and they have had no worries at all, as they're a sealed unit, being heavy doesn't affect their performance.
Which would you say is firmer, this or the Exped Megamat?
G'day Charles,
Both of these mats can be adjusted to be as firm or soft as you like by adjusting the amount of air. The Exped Megamat has dual valves so it will be slightly easier to get it nice and firm.
Hi There, Would this mattress fit well in the Oztent Rs1 king single swag?. This mattress and that swag both state their size in a King Single but there seems to be a big difference in the width. RS1 has a width of 105cm and this mat is 77cm. Does that sound right?
G'day Donna,
I can confirm that the width of the mat is 77cm wide. The RS-1 is much wider at 105cm. There are a number of products that different manufacturers use the term King Single to describe, however, there is no set size for King Single, so you'll need to double-check with the specified widths of the products on our site. The orange tick next to the dimensions on our site confirm that we've measured the product ourself.
Just wondering if the king single fits in the OzTent bunker , not the XL , thanks
G'day Ian,
There is now two new models of the Oztent Bunker, both are the width that the older model XL. The sleeping area is 200 x 90cm so the Monstamat King Single will fit with no problems at all. If you have an older model Bunker has a sleeping area of 190 x 80cm, which is a tiny bit too short to fit the Monstamat King Single.
I wonder if we can join two king single mats to make one queen size mat (without letting the two mats slip away from each other)
G'day Khalid,
You sure can, what a great idea! The Exped Universal Mat Coupler Kit will help out with keeping the mats joined together.
