Coleman Instant Up Gold 6P Tent

The Gold 6P tent is a great tent, however, it will likely be a little on the small size for your family of 4. You could fit a queen and a single, but not quite two queens. The Gold 10P might be a slightly better option as they have a room divider and will fit two queen mattress in the tent.

You won't have any troubles fitting 2 x King Goanna Stretchers in the Instant Up Gold 6P Tent. If you have a look at Ben's features video for a visual reference, he pops in a double-height airbed which will take up a similar amount of space, and height as the 2 x King Goanna Stretchers.

The pole length is fixed, so, unfortunately, you'll be a few centimetres short, so you might have to pop it in on an angle if you're wanting to run it across the boot.

There are no hard fast rules here, Jace. The tarp you have will fit neatly underneath this tent without sticking out of the edges and won't impede on peg placement, and will go just inside of the vestibule. I'd suggest making sure the tarp lies underneath the most trafficked areas of your tent floor. You could get a bigger tarp which the whole tent will sit on, but this does become a hassle when placing pegs around the edge.

I think what you have will work, and you've given yourself some versatility, there is no right or wrong. You may decide to add another smaller tarp down the track once you've given your current setup a try, or you may find that a different solution such as foam mats in the vestibule its a better option.

Yes we tent to recommend the Key-Head 225mm pegs for these tents. We'd generally recommend 16-20 pegs if you're wanting to replace all of the pegs.

Unfortunately, you won't fit a double air mattress and bunks in the Gold 6P Tent as the walls are a little too sloped, we'd recommend looking at the 8P or 10P tent to fit this combination.

Unfortunately not, the detachable side awning is not available separately, it is supplied with the tent itself, and can be used on either side, but they are not sold separately.

The mesh on the Instant Up Gold 6P tent will have no problems keeping the mosquitos out, however, when it comes to sandflies/midges it's hard to say. Generally, mesh will need to be 'no-see-um' in order to claim protection from midges, and unfortunately, it's not. The mesh on the Gold series is much finer than the Silver models, and we've not really had any reports of other owners having issues with midges getting into their tents. Overall we'd be fairly certain you should be ok, but it might be worth taking the deet with you to keep them at bay.

Unfortunately the same goes for the internal gear hammock as the doormat. If you're handy with a sewing machine you might be able to whip up a mesh square with some corner toggles.

Unfortunately, we can't get our hands on replacement doormats for the Instant Up Gold Tents. Might be worth grabbing yourself a standard lightweight doormat from a department store and taking that with you.

The Instant Up Gold 6P is waterproof with a 3000mm Waterhead rating. We wouldn't recommend putting a tarp over the top of the tent as the tarp flapping in the wind might end up causing damage to the tent.

Yes, you'll be able to fit the Coleman Double High Queen Quickbed inside the Instant Up Gold 6P Tent with room at the sides and ends to spare.

Its a great all rounder. The Instant Up Gold series will keep you dry and with the right sleeping gear, nice and warm in winter. Whilst in the water months, this tent would be as good as similar styles in our range with  regards to ventilation, with large windows and also floor level vents.  Hope that helps.

The Instant-Up Gold 6P and the Darkroom version will both suit for winter camping. Generally, you won't really notice a difference in temperature between the two, but the Darkroom coating might make it a little cooler during the day (when a non-darkroom will allow the sun to warm it up).

We don't think you'll quite be able to fit a Queen stretcher, single stretcher and porta cot in the Instant Up Gold 6P tent. We'd suggest having a look at the 8P of 10P tent to fit everyone in.

Thanks for your enquiry. I'll be honest, you're going to be a bit limited for space within the 6P Gold Instant Up Tent as far as fitting multiple camp mats inside. The Exped Megamat is one of our best selling camp mats so I would definitely recommend a duo for the adults. Your best option is to fit two Exped Duo mats across the width of the tent (2.6m) which will leave some space at the front of the tent for luggage. Another option is to purchase 1x Exped Megamat Duo for the adults and 2x Zempire Monstamat single mats for the kids but you'd need to set up the mats lengthways in the tent. The Zempire Monstamats are worth considering as a cheaper alternative without compromising comfort. I hope this helps.

I've just double checked our display model and the front door mat doesn't attach to the door but you can peg it down using the small webbing loops on all four corners, and the centre at the top and bottom.

The Coleman Instant Up Gold 6P only comes in one colour, which is what is shown on the product page sorry to say. 

I had to go weigh these for you, Michelle. I grabbed one out of an Instant Up 6P Gold but all the awning poles are the same.

It weighed in at 570g give or take a few grams.

The Instant Up Gold 6P is slightly smaller in its sleeping dimensions to your current tent (330L x 260W cm) so depending on the measurements of your self inflating mats, it might be worthwhile going with the 8P.  It would also depend on whether you wanted any extra space for storage or for hanging out when one of those top end downpours hit ;)  As for ventilation, the Instant Up Gold is terrific, especially with the floor level vents, but also the large windows with privacy screens.  So no worries on the heat factor :)

Yeah mate, the Instant Up Gold tents all have a power cord inlet as well as a series of clips to guide an extension cord to the centre point in the ceiling, ideal for hanging a lantern etc.

The Instant-Up 6P Gold comes with a waterproof fly that has a 3000mm waterhead rating which is already pretty good.  Using Scotchguard on the tent fly might actually cause damage to the material so we wouldn't advise it.

This is highly unlikely, Loren. Coleman have these made overseas, so the zippers would all be in a manufacturing facility somewhere in the world. Getting one from them would probably be a lengthy and expensive task for a zipper. 

Your best bet would be to go to a store like Spotlight, or do some research online to try and find a matching zipper. Ideally, you are best off replacing both sides of the zipper.

For the Instant Up Gold 6P I'd say that if you want the tarp to just cover the underside of your tent the 3.65 x 3.65 is probably the best size for that.

If you want to cover the ground under the awning of your tent as well, then the 3.05 x 4.88m size will be a good fit.

The Coleman Instant Up Gold 6P has a fully enclosed inner, with the option to unzip and use the mesh vents if required so it will likely be a bit warmer than the mesh roof of your Swift Pitch.

The Coleman Instant Up Gold 6P Tent will take up 3.6m x 2.7m if you have the awnings down. If you have the side awning up you'd need to add approx 1.8m to the side you set it up on. The front awning will add approx 1.5m as the awning starts from 30cm back (might be best to check the last image with the diagram of the tent to clarify what I mean!).

Simply because of the weight and size, the Coleman Instant Up Gold 6P Tent is a tad harder than the 4P option but as far as the structure and process are concerned, they're exactly the same. You'd just have to put in more pegs, lift a greater weight etc. if you opted for the 6P.

I've just taken my trusty tape measure to the Coleman Instant Up Gold 6P Tent that we've got on the shop floor. You won't have too many issues fitting your two sumo stretchers inside the tent, there just won't be much room for anything else.

I've just had a look at the Instant Up 6P Gold Tent that we have on display, and this tent definitely comes with 2 doors. There's only one version of Instant Up Gold 6 so they all will have 2 doors, Milly.

I've just double check with our display stock and you'll be able to fit 3x stretchers (working on 2m x 90cm each) plus luggage into the Coleman Instant Up Gold 6P tent. However, moving around within the tent might be difficult as you'll only be left with around 60cm at the end of each stretcher to move through the length of the tent.

The Coleman Instant Up 6 definitely has two awnings, if you take a look at the second image linked above you can get an idea of what they look like when fully set up. 

Unfortunately, the awnings on the Coleman Instant Up 6P aren't designed to be closed off (in the way that for example, a Black Wolf Turbo is) so there aren't any compatible side or front panels available to do this.

The detachable side awning is not a part of the fly, it actually just zips onto it. The Instant Up 6 Gold comes with 5 awning poles, so you can definitely set up the detachable side awning with a peak, and then set the front awning up with the other two if you like. 

We'd say that pretty much any awning is going to be vulnerable in wet or windy conditions, so you want to make sure that there is an angle for the water to run off and prevent pooling. I'd say mild rain would be fine with three poles forming a peak, but if it's really bucketing down - you might want to exercise caution.

Both tents are very easy to pitch, and are very similar in size as well.

The Fast Frame range also has the option of adding side walls and a front panel to the awning, so you will be able to use the awning area as an undercover space – so that’s another point of difference. The Fast Frame is a little newer or us, but it has proved to be a popular tent so you could go either way.  

I would say that the Instant Up will offer a little more durability and weather protection due to the fabric and the higher waterhead rating of 3000mm compared to the Fast frame at 2000mm – so if you’re leaning towards the Instant Up, then it is definitely a solid choice.

The Instant Up 6 comes with enough to guy the whole tent including the awnings so you probably won't need to add extra as long as peg them correctly. As far as extra ones - there aren't extra places to put them, but you could always double up for extra stability.

The pole dimensions are 20mm for this tent. I am unsure if any particular tests have been performed by Coleman regarding the wind strength this tent can resist against. Generally if winds are considered to be strong it is best not to erect a tent. It is more the wind gusts that cause most of the damage to tents, bending poles and tearing fabric.

It is always best to erect a tent with the fly to increase the rigidity of the tent and help prevent it from blowing over. Tent manufacturers do not cover wind damage as part of their warranties, so if in doubt it would be better not to put it up. 

It is also best to match your tent pegs with your environment, so if you are thinking of camping in sandy soil or beach then use some beach pegs, or if you are in a caravan park campground perhaps steel or galvanised longer pegs would be the go. A tight tent is a safe tent.

The features you've mentioned are from the Instant Up Silver 16/17 range which is slightly different from the Gold Instant Up range.  

The Silver Instant Up tents were updated this year - and we currently have those models online which feature the Weathertec system welded floors, inverted seams, and seam sealed fly with a large front awning.

The Gold range was launched in late 2015 and is the latest available model from Coleman. The Gold series has the Weathertec system, heavy duty PVC floor, waterproof fly, and the front door can be pitched as a large awning – so it is similar.

The main differences between the two ranges are that the Gold is heavier duty, as it has a higher waterhead rating and a thicker PVC floor - so it will hold up a little better in rougher weather.

The Instant Up models listed are definitely the latest 16/17 models from Coleman. 

This tent does not come with a peg puller. However, this nifty little all-in-one mallet/peg puller from Zempire will be all you really need. You might want to carry a few extra pegs just to be on the safe side. 

The Instant Up 6P is definitely going to be an excellent option if you're a little rusty, as it's not going to take you long at all to pitch due to the all-in-one frame.

It is always a great idea to use a tarp with every tent, just as it adds an extra layer of protection for the underside of your tent, and if you get a bigger size - you can allow for some ground cover under your awning. 

A basic, yet very popular and solidly made tarp is the Ultramesh Tarp from Oztrail. For the Instant Up 6P Id say that if you want the tarp to just cover the underside of your tent the 3.65 x 3.65 is probably the best size for that.

If you want to cover the ground under the awning of your tent as well, then the 3.05 x 4.88m size will be a good fit.

You have a couple of options. You can peg through the tarp if you'd like, being a mesh it won't leave holes like it might in a PVC tarp. Alternatively, you can fold the tarp over so that it doesn't protrude from the tent at all and then you won't need to peg through it. 

Hi Peter, we recently re-measured the internal dimensions on this tent and found we had some incorrect information, so the sleeping area is actually 310 x 250cm as you'll see listed in the specs. It looks like we forgot to edit the floor plan though so thanks for pointing that out, we'll get that fixed up :) Sorry for the confusion.

Well... anythings possible Lorree, but it will certainly be easier with two people, especially if conditions are windy. 

It will take a little longer and more consideration will need to be taken to ensure wind cannot pick the tent up as you walk from one side to another. You may find yourself doing a few laps as you place pegs ont he first lap, then extend all the legs on the next lap, then do another lap to make adjustments.

You would aslo want to throw the fly over the top before you extend the legs, it would be difficult for one person to get the fly over the top of the tent at full height.

Hi Adam, to follow up from Paul’s answer - the main body of the tent is made from non-waterproof nylon, and the doors and windows are made from mesh. These materials may keep out a light shower for a short period of time, but eventually water will soak through. We always recommend that you set up the fly with the tent to protect it from wind or rain, and to keep it stable in general. Thanks, Emily.

G'day Albert - The Instant Up Gold 6P has many advantages over the standard Instant Up 6P. They are: a better waterhead rating - it's more waterproof; an extended warranty - 2 years rather than 1 year; heavier duty materials; and a side awning and welcome mat. Should you spend the extra cash? If you're going to use the tent regularly, at different times of the year in different conditions, and want it to last, then go the Gold. Hope that helps. There are no front and side wall, or additional mesh room accessories for the Instant Up range sorry Wayne. Check out the Coleman Instant Cabin Gold 8P as an alternative, the frame is slightly different but it offers an enclosed main compartment with an attached mesh vestibule.

Sure does Tee, it's ready to go right out of the box; pegs, poles, flysheet and an extra awning that can be attached to either side of the tent.
