Take convenient camping up a notch with the headroom of a tent and convenience of a swag in the Instant Swagger 3P Tent from Coleman.
Its innovative design has it bigger than a swag yet easier to pitch than an Instant Up tent – so there’s no compromise. Made from 150D polyester, this swagger has a 1500mm Waterhead rating for protection against the weather and a PE tarp floor to guard against moisture from the ground up. The strong frame has spring-loaded torsion poles to create more headroom and it features a dual instant spine hub which makes it easy to set up. There are side windows on each side to assist in ventilating your space, and the D-shaped door allows access as well as use as an awning in front of your shelter.
Set up the Instant Swagger 3P Tent from Coleman when you need somewhere to rest every night when touring, at a music festival or casual weekends away at the campsite.
Hi, I need a versatile tent for side trip overnights while vanning around Aust. Should partially fit under car awning, so lower height. What is comparison between Coleman Swagger 3p and BW Classic Dome 3 please? Eg, compare wind stability, rain proof, speed to set up? Do Swagger's side panels flap in the wind? Are adjustable poles available to lower Swagger's annex even further than when the existing poles are slanted back. Intention to stop water running onto person when lowering the annex say during dismantle? I've experienced this previously with another dome tent.
G'day Bruce,
The Coleman Swagger is easy to set up with its instant up frame while the Black Wolf Dome has just 3 sets of poles to set up the tent, both should partially fit under a car awning. They would be similar under windy conditions, ensuring all guy ropes are tied out and the tent is pegged down you shouldn't have too many issues with flapping side panels. Always handy to get some stronger pegs.
The Swagger fly has a waterhead rating of 1500mm while the Black Wolf Dome is 2000mm, the dome packs up smaller and is lighter compared to the Swagger. You can get the Darche Swag Awning Alloy Pole Set which has adjustable telescopic poles to lower the awning further. Overall, they are both great little tents the Swagger would be quicker to set up while the Black Wolf Dome has the better waterhead rating and pack-up size.
I was about to buy this, but then the new Darkroom version came out. Apart from the obvious darkening, does the extra layer of fabric on the Darkroom make any other difference - is it stronger, more robust, more waterproof etc.?
G'day Gary,
There's very little difference between the darkroom and standard versions other than light suppression. There is some claim that it may make the tent cooler in hot weather, but realistically it'd be negligible. When its hot, it's hot!
Hi there, Just wondering if it'll fit a family of 4? 2 adults and 2 very small kids age 8 and 9
G'day Hong,
No, it's highly unlikely. There is only room for 3 single camp mats in each tent, I personally have these tents and each one fits 2 teenagers plus their bags, with a small amount of floor room left over.
Ideally you would be looking at a 4-6P tent in order to fit mattresses for 4 people in.
We currently use a big tent with two double mats total width 260cm for 2 adults and 2 kids. We find it to be way too much space for us and looking to downgrade. So yeah a smaller tent like this may be good fit for you, too.
Thanks for the feedback, Andrew!
This tent definately isn't a suitable option for 4 people, or 2 double mattresses.
The 4-6P tents recommended generally range from about 2.3m² to around 3-3.5m², so give you room for mattresses with minimal space left over.
Those options are much smaller & more compact when compared to family tents that are designed to have some living space as well.
Hope that helps.
Is the screen midget mesh?
G'day Maree,
Coleman doesn't indicate the Instant Swagger mesh is Midge Proof, so while it is quite fine, we can't guarantee that the midges won't chew through it.
Hey guys just wondering if you can fit 2 high peak coleman mattresses in this tent/swag.... we have 2 mattresses to go on the stretchers when camped up for 3-4 days but was thinking the swagger would be good for overnighters or 2 nights
G'day Todd,
Assuming you are talking about 2 of the Single sized High Peaks?
The sleeping area of the Swagger 3P is 240 x 210 cm, so you'll have loads of room for 2 single High Peaks which measure 200 x 68 cm
Hope that helps!
Will this mat fit in this tent
G'day Dave,
The sleeping area on the swagger is 240L x 210W cm
The Exped Megamat 1o Duo is 197L x 132W cm
You'll have no problems using this Exped mat in the Swagger 3P.
Dear. Hi. Is this tent seam-sealed for water proof?
G'day Sunny,
Yes, the Swagger 3P is seam-sealed, and has a waterhead rating of 1500mm. You can read more about what the waterhead ratings mean HERE.
Can you fit a queen coleman All-terrain air mattress in this? If so, will it touch the sides and be a nuisance with condensation?
G'day Josh,
Assuming you're talking about the standard All-Terrain Queen mattress, and not the Double High version, yes.
It will fit running front to back, but you'll give yourself a bigger buffer and more room around the mattress if you orient it side to side.
Hope that helps.
Single tent user only. I require a K/S stretcher. Will this stretcher fit once erected inside? Also will this stretcher also fit inside the 2P? Thanks
G'day Maureen,
Yes, you can fit the Easy Fold Jumbo Stretcher in the Swagger 3P, however, you'll need to set up the stretcher inside of the tent. It will sit fairly high inside the swagger, giving you around 85cm from stretcher to the highest roof point (without a mattress) so sitting up in bed isn't practicable possible unless you are on the shorter side.
You can just fit this in the Swagger 2P, but it will take up pretty much the entire space due to the angle of the side walls.
I use an oztrail easy fold stretcher. It fits nicely along the back wall and has almost 1mtr of head room above stretcher also leaving space under the stretcher to stow your gear giving you a lot more floor space. The issue is more the size of the door, but you need to use a stretcher that you can set up inside the swagger as the size of the door limits the length of the item you can squeeze through this door. I suspect that you could not pitch a cross leg stretcher where the legs pivot through 270 degrees from stow position. The easy fold stretcher fold internally and can be pitched in a confined space. I love using my stretcher inside my swagger but I don't think you could fit two in across the width. I use mine along the back wall and it's only me and the dawg ..
Hi! Will this be a more durable tent for windy places? What about the ability to prevent cold from coming inside the tent? Will there be a huge difference with the darche nebula 1550?
G'day Koobie,
The Swagger 3P will be ok in windy places, but the Nebula 1550 is made from heavy-duty canvas, so will be more durable in windy conditions. In terms of cold, the Swagger 3P inner can be fully zipped shut, which should reduce heat leakage, however canvas generally does a better job of retaining heat, so the Nebula will probably be a little warmer.
I will be camping on on the sand flooring and will be setting up my swagger there. what's the best sand peg and size for it?
G'day Iris,
We'd recommend the 225mm Supa Peg Sand Pegs to use the Swagger 3P on sand.
Just wondering if the mesh is midgee proof or not?
G'day Chris,
The mesh on the Swagger 3P isn't classified as No-see-um, which is the only verified midgeproof mesh. So if you're regularly in areas with lots of midgies we'd recommend also packing the repellant just in case.
are there any plans from Coleman in coming out with a complete block out fly This would then make it nice and dark like a swag
G'day Tom,
UPDATED - There is now the Coleman Instant Swagger 3P Darkroom Tent which features the blockout coating on the fly of the 3P Swagger.
Looking at this or a 3p Coleman dome style tent
G'day Paul,
The Swagger hasn't really been designed with sleet/snow in mind, however, the shape should lead to the shedding of snow rather than having to worry about constantly clearing it. They are a two-layer design with good ventilation, so condensation shouldn't be too much of a worry. They are classified as a 2-3 season tent due to the waterhead rating on the fabric, so it could be ok, however it would be pushing the tent to its limits.
Hi, sorry to disappoint but condensation is unfortunately a real problem. Despite the fact there are two walls, they are actually touching on several areas of the "roof" - therefore don't have insulating air barrier between. This promotes humidity in the tent. I also noticed that condensation/rain from the outside can ocassionally get in: Firstly, rain seems to be leaking through the fly where eyelets for main "awning" are installed. Once the water is under the fly (either leaked rain or condensation) , it will flow on the outside of the inner fabric until it hits the spot where inner fabric is sewn to the floor - and thats where it leaks on the floor. I have this tent since this summer and tested it on several ocassions in Tasmania. Combination of high humidity and colder nights makes it far from a dry experience. It should be fine in warm/dry environments though. ps: I am happy to provide more details if needed.
I read that Coleman tents have a fire retardant. Can you confirm if this has it, as I’m worried about toxicity.
G'day John,
Yes, Coleman, and most tent manufactures worldwide are required to adhere to certain requirements regarding fire retardants and flammability. They do contain a fire retardent in accordance with CPAI-84.
Could you fit 2 oztrail low rise easy fold stretchers in the 3p swagger ?
G'day Luke,
Yes you should be able to fit two Low Rise Stretchers in the Swagger 3P, however, you'd need to put them in side to side, rather than front to back.
I saw the other question about Coleman not having a groundsheet to fit this tent - which size OZtrail Ultramesh Tarp would be most approriate? Thanks
G'day Mel,
The 2.4m x 2.4m Ultramesh Tarp is the best fit for the Instant Swagger 3P tent.
Actually I use a 2.5 X 3.0m mesh annex mat orientated with the length poking out the door to give you somewhere to sit outside under the awning on a sunny day. Helps keep the crap out of your tent
Will we have this tent (2P/3P Coleman) with dark room in the future? I am looking for a tent with Instant Up DarkRoom front porch for 2 or 3 person
G'day Ella,
At this point in time, we're not aware of Coleman having any plans to release an option like this. There is the Pop Up Darkroom 2P that might suit depending on how much space you're looking for.
Would a single zempire or the oztrail easy fold fit in the 3P swagger?
G'day Kate,
Based on the shape and height a stretcher won't be the best use of the space, but if you were just planning to sleep one person in it, then yes either the Zempire stretcher or the Oztrail Easy Fold should fit, you'll just need to consider the total height.
And the benefit of the stretcher gets you up of the ground and provides storage space under the stretcher for you gear to keep the foot space clear. The biggest issue is the configuration of the door. The stretcher you wish to pitch must be physically pitched inside else you will have trouble getting the legs through the door. I found an Oz easy fold stretcher works well but a Kings jumbo single stretcher is too large to pitch inside and cannot be manoeuvred through the door oven though the footprint suggests that it would fit inside.
My daughter has a kings dbl swag and can set it up no worries and quite quickly but it's so heavy for her to carry. This is lighter and smaller but I'm just curious how you compare set up time between this and a dbl swag(kings)thanks
G'day Kylie,
The Swagger is very quick to set up, so it would be worth having a look at the Set Up video on the product page. They're going to be a little quicker than a traditional swag, however, they don't come with a mattress, so you'll have the separate mattress weight to consider as well.
Will there me a groundsheet coming out for these like with the other Coleman pop up tents
G'day Azeez,
At this stage, we haven't received any notification from Coleman that these will be available anytime soon.
Should you wet it down before you use it, like on a canvas tent, and if so should you wet down the inner also
G'day Doug,
The Swagger is made from polyester so there is no need to season it before using it.
What size are they packed up? Smaller than a swag?
G'day Aaron,
It depends what size swag!
The Coleman Swagger packed dimensions are 120L x 23W x 23H cm.
Hope that helps.
what would handle high winds better swagger 3p or Instant up 4p tent?
G'day Vasko,
Most tents can handle high winds as long as they have all their guy ropes out and pegs in all the pegs points. We also recommend upgrading to heavy-duty pegs, as these will help stabilise the tent as well. If high winds will be an issue the Swagger will perform better than the Instant Up due to the lower height and slightly more aerodynamic taper of the tent.
Wondering if you set up beds separately like a tent or can leave mattress inside like a swag
G'day Angie,
Your bedding will need to be packed separately, they're essentially just a small swag shaped tent, so you won't be able to leave mattresses inside it when you pack it up.
Any chance that a big sky stretcher bed would fit inside the 3p swagger
G'day Laurence,
It's hard to say as we don't have a display model yet, however, we've just filmed a video that will be posted in the next week should help show the internal space. I think the height will be the issue, as the side walls curve up a little at the sides, so I don't think a sky bed would fit, probably best to stick to a mattress on the floor.
The tent plan indicates a rear window but the pics don't show it. Just wondering if it's a regular window or a ground level fresh air like the Gold Series tents? Thanks.
G'day Pete,
The rear window is a low floor vent which is the same as the Gold series tents.
