A low cut lightweight gaiter for basic protection against sand, stones, seeds and sticks, the Sea To Summit Spinifex Ankle Gaiters are also a good option for the weight conscious trekker.
At half the height of its full-length cousins, the Spinifex Ankle Gaiters are constructed from 450
Got these for my mother who walks daily in the VIC alpine. She said it was her best gift so far. “Feels safer against snakes and also keeps her legs dry and loose stones out. I will get some for myself now.
Good length for hot climates. Hold up well.
Snap studs on both gaiters pulled through the base material when I tried doffing them after the first test. Repaired them myself due to lack of lead time before long multi day hike. Protected boots and ankles quite well from some rather nasty spinifex. May need a little extra girth around the top for people with larger calves.
I'm sorry to hear that your new gaiters had some issues right before your multi-day hike. If we can do anything to help out, please give us a call on 1300 914 007. Thanks for leaving your feedback. Laine :)
Going to WA and Kimberley when the dry season starts!
Used them in rainy days, leaches , and snakes around, worked well.
Great product. Unlike most other ankle gaiters they can be put on while you have you boots on. Intelligent design. They are made of strong fabric and are extremely tough. These gaiters will last the distance.
Work well. Easy to put on. Fast shipping
gaiter prices illustrated single or pairs ? thanks
I've just double checked this and yes the Spinifex Gaiters from Sea to Summit come as a pair. It looks like that's not super clear in the description so I'll make sure that gets updated to avoid further confusion. Thanks for bringing this to our attention Peter!
Im going to be hiking in both Gallipoli and England in October and November this year
That sounds like a great trip! These Spinifex gaiters are made out of a heavy duty ripstop Nylon material that is technically water resistant but certainly not proofed (meaning no water can pass through at all) and considering that there's a hole at both the top and the bottom of the gaiter, it's hard to call anything in this range fully waterproof.
They will repel a certain amount of water for some time but if you're walking through a lot of wet grass for prolonged periods of time, I would suggest one of the lined options like the Quagmire gaiters which have a waterproof breathable membrane bonded to the outer material. They are slightly heavier and longer so it is a compromise, however, they will keep your pants dry whereas the shorter Nylon Spinifex option may or may not.
I take a US size 13 hiking boot. Have you had any issues with these fitting over large boots or on large sized people? What are the advantages of the canvas vs nylon versions?
You shouldn't have any trouble getting these gaiters over your boots as they open up and can be wrapped around your boots and then closed using the velcro tab.
A few benefits of canvas are that they are a more natural fibre, so they will breathe a little better and may be a bit more durable when you're walking through rougher terrain.
Nylon gaiters are going to be more lightweight, so they're great for hotter conditions where you want to wear shorts but still protect yourself from scrapes, insects, bites etc.
