Coleman Pilbara C−5 Sleeping Bag

That depends on personal preference.
The Big Game is bigger overall so ideal for a larger person, its also made from a cotton canvas so has a more durable feel on the outside making it idea for swagging.
The Pilbara gives you flexibility with a removable liner, so will suit a great range of temperatures, and has a soft feel like home bedding.

Neither sleeping bag option is water resistant.

Great question Mel!  Not 100% sure where you're located, but a local canvas and awning specialist may have the zips you're after & can do the repair.
Until recent models of sleeping bags had a zip in option, liners have always been separate from the sleeping bag.
If the issue is on the bag zip, and the liner zips are fine, you can zip the liner up on itself and use it as normal.

Yes you could use the Coleman Stratus Fleece Sleeping Bag Liner or the OZtrail Fleece Sleeping Bag Liner as a replacement in these bags they just wouldn't connect to the existing zip on the Sleeping Bag.

If you are sleeping in conditions colder than 0°C, you may want something a little warmer, you could add an extra liner to the sleeping bag such as the Coleman Fleece Liner to add some extra insulation. You will want a thick sleeping Mat with an R-value of at least 4 to provide some insulation from the ground too.

The Darche Cold Mountain 1100, Coleman Big Game C−6 Sleeping Bag and 23Zero Alaska Black 1100 are also some other options that have a higher comfort rating that will keep you warmer.

Glad to hear! Yes, this sleeping bag is machine washable so you shouldn't have any trouble washing that at the laundromat.

They sure can, the zippers on both Pilbara bags are the same, so you can zip them together, as well as being able to mix up or combine with both the 0c and -5c versions.

These two sleeping bags are largely the same size, but there can be some minor discrepancies between batches.
It's completely normal for there to be some differences, and shouldn't affect the performance of either bags at all.

We know the Big Game C-6 and the Big Game Deluxe C-12 are compatible, as we've tried them out instore.
According to Coleman The Big Game Deluxe C-12 and the Pilbara/Mudge sleeping bags are not compatible.
If you are wanting to pair two sleeping bags together, Id recommend going with the two different temp Big Games for the best outcome.

Yes, absolutely.  This bag is best for car camping, and potentially may fit into a verge large duffle bag with clothing, etc, but it's not an ideal option for hiking or travel where you need to carry your gear.

Yep!  We 10/10 recommend to stuff sleeping bags away for storage.  They will often come rolled from the factory due to the kind of packing machinery used, but stuffing is the way to go.

If you do remove the liner there is a zip edge left on the inside of the bag, but it's right up next to the main zipper and should not be an issue at all.  I'd say you wouldn't even notice it.  In all the time we've sold these bags, it hasn't been raised in customer feedback, so I reckon that's good to go off.

Yeah, you'll be fine mate.  It's super common for sleeping bags to be rolled up inside a swag.  The only issue might be if you are going months and months of time between unrolling your swag, the insulation in the sleeping bag may get compressed, but ultimately I don't think you'll have any trouble.

They're just made in one colour, so, unfortunately, we're not able to help with that. Maybe one can have a patch sewn onto it, so you can identify whose bag is whose.

There's just the single zip on the Coleman Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bag, which runs from the head right the way around to the foot.
There is a slider on each end though, so you can open the foot end on its own.  The zip sliders have a red plastic attachment to stop the zips from opening on their own, so you shouldn't have any trouble with the sleeping bag opening up further whilst you sleep.

You can't, unfortunately.  The liner that comes with the Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bag is essentially a Stratus Liner already, so there's no leftover zip hardware to attach an additional liner too.
You could absolutely use a second liner, but it wouldn't zip in. The only issue worth mentioning is that the more layers you add between your body and the sleeping bag insulation itself, the less effective your sleeping bag will be.
The sleeping bag only works by trapping and radiating the heat of your body back to you.  The more layers you have, the less actual body heat will be reaching the sleeping bag insulation, and therefore its overall effectivity will be reduced.
If you are cold, your better option would be to add a blanket on top of your sleeping bag.

Yes, you can zip the Pilbara C0 and C-5 together with no worries, they use the exact same zippers. They'll zip together with one on the top and one on the bottom, so we'd recommend putting the C-5 on the top, this should help improve your overall temperature a little too.

Yes, you can use the zip-out liner from the Pilbara C-5 as a stand-alone lightweight sleeping bag in warmer conditions. There isn't a specified temperature rating for use in this way, but it will be similar to using a Fleece blanket at home, so is really only suitable for very warm nights.

Yes, the fleece liner is zipped in at the sides, next to the main sleeping bag zip tracker.

We place our own comfort rating on sleeping bags that have not been tested to any standard, Jono, some of the supplier ratings are misleading and too many of our customers were sleeping cold. The ratings we advertise are based on comparisons with other bags as well as years of customer feedback. 

Long story short, we don't feel that the estimated -5 degree rating Coleman put on this bag is adequate, it has no hood and does not compare in thickness and volume to other reliable -5 degree bags, we think it is more in line with other 5 degree bags.

If you're wanting to zip together two Pilbara bags you'll open them all the way out and overly one on top of the other so you'll end up with one big double-sized bag that will include the foot end zipper.

The internal fleece liner is just under 1kg, so yes it will be around the same weight as the Pilbara CO, however the comfort temperature rating will reduce with the fleece removed.

The Pilbara C-5 will suit the top of the Megamat Duo 10 as a doona. It will end up a little wider than the mat itself but you can always tuck it around and under the edges.

I have spoken with a colleague who is an expert with our range of sleeping bags. They confirmed you can definitely zip those bags together, you'll just need to unzip each sleeping and lay them down like a quilt, one on top of the other and zip from the corner. The Coleman Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bag can be zipped to another to make a double with no worries, they are rated to minus five and will come in individual stow bags. Zipping two together will give you 200cm of width. The Roman Camper Double is already a double so you only need to purchase one bag, this one will give you 165cm of width, and  are rated to zero degrees so won't be quite as warm as the Coleman. Both bags have a nice soft flannel liner, and the Coleman also has a zip out polar fleece inner which can be handy for keeping the bag clean.

The Coleman Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bag is a great bag, and I reckon you'll be stoked with it. As for whether or not you should get a kids' sleeping bag for your daughter, whilst it won't be quite as warm for her as it is for the adults because of the air pockets, it's still a pretty warm sleeping bag, plus, you'll not need to upgrade each time she grows. I have an adult's sleeping bag for my 6-year-old daughter and she loves it.

When you take the liner out of the Coleman Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bag, it effectively becomes the same bag as the Pilbara C0 Sleeping Bag which is rated at 0°.

There aren't left or right-hand options with the Coleman Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bag, you'd just need to open them both up and go from there like you were suggesting.

I’ve just spoken to Coleman about this, and to their knowledge, the zipper has not changed in size so in theory the discontinued C-3 can be zipped together with the C-5.

We don’t have the old one to confirm this for you, so just keep that in mind. Sorry we couldn't give you a definitive answer Emma.

You'll have absolutely no worries zipping two of the Coleman Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bags together. Just lay one out like a blanket and then lay the other on top, zip them together and away you go!

In terms of heat retention, there isn't a great deal of difference because while the fill is different, they've been designed to their temperature ratings of -5C for the Pilbara and -6C for the Zambezie.

We'd recommend either of the bags but please note that the Zambezie is being updated and current stock is being cleared out.

Unfortunately, the new model Coleman Pilbara sleeping bags don't have alternate zips, but they can still be joined by laying one flat on top of the other.

I've just gone and physically had a feel of both the texture and weight and I personally can't notice a difference between the included fleece liner and the Coleman Stratus.

The main difference between the Coleman Pilbara Sleeping Bag models is as you've mentioned the Removable Fleece Liner and that the C-5 is rated to -5C, whereas the C-0 is rated to 0C.

There is no difference in the fill weight - both 1 x 250gsm.

In regards to summer camping, that's a tough question as there are so many variables based on outside temperature, body temperature etc. The decision is very much up to how much warmth you think you'll require. The benefit of the liner, however, means you can be more flexible with your warmth arrangement (if too hot - you can remove the liner or too cold - you can add the liner).

We've just had a play with at the display model of the Pilbara C-5 Bag myself and it seems this is the best way to remove the liner.

There are two zippers at the top, a red one with a ‘Ziplow’ tag, and a plain one. Hold them together tightly between your left hand’s finger and thumb making sure they are lined up straight.

With your right hand, pull the sheet towards yourself. You will have to use a little bit of force. Once it’s through the first zipper, keep pulling til it’s out of the second one - then it the liner/sheet should be removed. 

It took me one or two times to get the hang of it, but if you are having any more trouble give us a call.
