Can these burners be turned right down for simmering things? I've seen that the Fyreknight cooker is quite difficult to turn down to simmer with? Thanks.
G'day Matt,
Yep, the Peak stove will simmer fairly well - the FyreKnight/Hyperflame stoves are quite a different design, so he abit of a different function.
Hope that helps!
Does the supplied hose connect with the ‘swap n go’ gas cylinders you can get from petrol stations? Thank you
G'day John,
No, it won't sorry - it comes with a hose to connect to 3/8th BSP gas bottles.
If you want to connect to Swap and Go bottles with the new standardised LCC27 valve, you'll need this hose.
Hi, what's a good plate to match up with this?
G'day Jason,
Due to the high BTUs and heat output, you'll want to use a cast iron hotplate.
The Campfire 3 Burner Gas Cooker Plate suits perfectly.
Hi there, How long is the hose that comes with the stove , and can you buy a longer one if needed?
G'day Rod,
The BOM to 3/8 BSP hose the stove comes with is 1500mm long, Coleman recommends only using the hose it is supplied with and not a longer hose, while it may be possible we could not recommend using a longer hose.
Can the end of the regulator that attaches to the main unit be attached to an extension cable or does it have to be attached directly into the unit? I only have 70cm of space in my slide out kitchen and see from another answer you recommend 75cm of clear space. I want to see if I can still fit the unit by using an extension hose to have the regulator and gas bottle on an adjacent drawer.
G'day Greg,
The Coleman fixed regulator arm has to be attached to the stove itself, it can't be moved or attached elsewhere in the gas line connection I'm sorry!
can you tell me how far the regulator pipe protrudes from the edge of the stove .Im trying to fit the stove in a draw and need to know if it will fit with the regulator connected. Over all width of the stove with the pipe connected
G'day Greg,
The Coleman regulator arm adds an extra 25cm to the overall length of the stove, so we'd recommend allowing for around 75cm of clear space.
Hope that helps!
We had to purchase a new hose to facilitate connection to a 5kg or greater LPG gas bottle. The hose we purchased was longer which worked out well for our cam kitchen setup.
Hi! I have one of these stoves... Would the Coleman camp oven be compatible with it? Or do you need to have a stove with a wire trivet? Thanks for your help!
G'day Bec,
You might be able to, but the oven has been discontinued so it's not something we can try out in person for you sorry!
I think the wire grate/pot support across the stove is ideal - but you could potentially get a small piece of galv or stainless mesh cut to size, to sit across the stove and rest the oven on.
Hope that helps.
Hi, what’s the main difference between the two and which is a better unit or which would you recommend? Thanks
G'day Mitch,
The FyreKnight has a higher output, so is more suitable for large batch cooking and boiling water, and is less great for simmering.
Other than that the overall performance and function are essentially the same. The primary difference is fairly evident in the aesthetics of the stove.
The Peak 1 comes with a separate storage case, and isn't a big chunky suitcase-style stove. Whilst it can be used in any camping set up, its more suitable for people who have pull-out kitchens, or campers, or 4WD drawer systems for example where a slimline profile is ideal.
Hope that helps.
We looked at the Fyreknight and researched several reviews/vids. I have to disagree with Snowy’s assessment re use cases. We found the Peak 1 to be superior in all the ways that really count. Flame control (you can easily simmer with the Peak1), Wind resistance ( we often simmer in windy conditions). Ease of setup and cleaning. For the extra few seconds you have to spend unzipping it’s case over the FyreKnight I would take the Peak1 any day. We have used it touring on a couple of trips now and never felt under powered or inconvenienced with its setup YES it’s an expensive stove.. but you’ll be glad you spent the extra from your very Peak1 use.
Hi, does this unit incorporate a flame failure device (thermocouple)
G'day Marc,
No, the Coleman stoves do not come with a thermocoupler - they're also not suitable to be connected to caravan gas systems because they will only work with the Colemans own fixed regulator arm.
If you are looking for a stove to use with your caravan, you'd potentially need to get it touch with a Caravan/RV specific retailer.
Is there an extension (hose or gender bender) to extend the stove's fitting >20mm from side of stove? For my purposes, the stove would fit tight on the right (I have a 5mm heat resistant side panel I'd like it to pass the hose through) as it stands I wouldn't be able to get my fingers in between to tighten the regulator's screw sleeve onto the stove having minimal room.
G'day Peter,
As far as I'm aware, this isn't possible. The regulator's arm is Colemans' own specific design and it's been around for years and years. Over this time we've had loads on conversations with people about how it could be potentially modified, because it isn't the most convenient of things, and we've yet to come across a solution or any kind of adapter.
I dont know if its something that you could get fabricated, but it would be a question of legalities and insurance purposes when it comes to gas systems.
How far apart are the centre of the burners? Will two 30cm pans fit on each one?
G'day Jovan,
The space between the burners is 10" or 25.5ish cm.
You'll be able to use 2 x 25cm diameter pans evenly over the burners, or you'd be able to use 2 x 30cm pans, but they wouldn't be centered.
Hope that helps.
Is the regulator required for this stove the same as the Hyperflame stove.
G'day Gary,
Yes, thats correct. All Coleman stoves require the Coleman specific rigid regulator arm.
Unfortunately theres no way to bypass this.
Just wondering if those burners can come out in case of an overspill when cooking and how easy it would be to clean if that happened. Thanks
G'day Janelle,
The burners themselves won't come out, as they need to be a sealed line for the gas supply. The black & silver pot support rings can be removed, and the stove top itself is nice and flat, and easy clean.
Hope that helps!
We have found the stove quicker and easier to clean than any other camp stove we have used. (.. and we have used quite a few including other Coleman models). The trivets click in/out easily allowing easy cleaning (much better than having to work with stands connected to the stove and therefore more fiddle to clean)
Hi, Do these stoves need any wind shield protection
G'day Tom,
They are pretty high burning and we've tested it out with a fan on high and the flames 100% will not go out.
You will loose abit of efficiency though, so if you need water boiled urgently use wind protection, but otherwise it should perform really well.
It has the same style burners as the Hyperflame stoves, which are known to have great performance in all conditions.
Does this model have a grill plate to place over the two burners?
G'day Fergus,
No, there isn't a corresponding hotplate for the Peak 1 - however the Campfire 3 Burner Cooker Plate is a perfect fit.
Due to the high BTU's and heat output of this stove, you'll be wanting to use a cast iron hotplate.
Can this cooker be hooked up to a 4.5Kg bottle?
G'day Eric,
Yes, the provided gas hose connect to a 3/8th BSP gas bottle. These come in a range of sizes/capacities. We don't have a 4.5kg option, but we do have the 4kg which you can find here.
