Are there any pegs to hold the tent on the ground? How do you stop it blowing away?1 answer
How do you stop the tent from being blown away? There does not seem to be any pegs on the corners holding it down.

G'day Chris,
I've gone and double checked our display model. The Oztent Malamoo X-Tra Pop-Up Tent comes included with pegs. It isn't easy to see through the online images, but the way in which you peg the tent down is through slits that run around the base. The tent has been designed to peg over the pole that runs around the perimeter of the base.
However, I'd love to offer a hot tip to protect the tent poles. I'd recommend tying a small loop of rope around the pole at every opening. The reason for this is to provide an alternative peg point to ensure you avoid damaging the pole when applying pressure through the peg. The rope will still hold but will be separated from the pole ensuring you don't accidentally damage it when hammering in the peg.

Hello, After receiving this tent, I can report that if you want to fit inside 2 sleeping mattresses 2 meters long, you will only have 135cm width to play with.

I noticed the 2 person pop up has hooks for lanterns but is not mentioned on this 3 person version. ?? Also is there a back window for air flow please?

The Malamoo X-Tra 3P Pop Up tent does have side vents as well as a mesh panel at the back for ventilation inside the tent.
As for lantern hooks, I’ve looked at our display model, and checked with the info supplied by Oztent, and it seems that the X-tra model doesn’t come with a lantern hook.Â

Using A Stretcher1 answer
Would this tent be suitable to use a stretcher in? Is the floor strong/thick enough to withstand stretcher feet? Is there a particular stretcher you would recommend?

As the Malamoo X-Tra 3P Pop Up Tent has a floor made from polyester, it's probably not a good idea to use a stretcher that has individual feet as they may be too harsh for the floor.Â
A good option would be something like the Coleman Big Sky Bed as this stretcher has smooth U shaped legs, as opposed to feet. Â

I’ve just had a look at the in store model, and there is a main door that you enter the tent from which is solid. Once you’re in the vestibule there is door that has both a mesh and solid zippered panel that can be used separately or together to the inner tent. So in total there are two doors. Â

Seam sealing the tent1 answer
We've had this tent for around 4-5 years now and its been the best tent we've ever had so far. But after all this time camping in the sun and the rain - the tent is starting to leak small amounts of water through the seams along the bottom. What sort of sealing/waterproofing would you recommend for this tent? Also, what is the best procedure you would recommend?

That’s great to hear you’ve been getting a lot of use out of your tent! It sounds like your Malamoo could use some seam sealant to plug up those small leaks, once you do that it should be good to go again.

G'day Ben - There is no footprint or groundsheet specifically for the Malamoo, but there are stacks of DIY options - a lightweight tarp, old tent fly, emergency blanket, or maybe a footprint designed for another tent. Because the weight of the tent sits on the footprint, it doesn't really need to be attached or clipped into place. It's really just there to add another barrier from the wet, cold, rough ground. This tent is far too big for backpacking Ashley. Packed up it measures around 100 cm in diameter which won't fit in your pack. You would be best choosing something from our Hiking tent range. I recommend you look for a tent that weighs around 2 kg, and packs up to about 40 - 50 cm in length, this type of tent will pack easily into a rucksack and not weigh you down too much on the trail. The Mont Moondance 2 is a good example.

Hi Nick, you'll be fine with one mattress in the Malamoo Xtra. Internally at the longest point you have 215 cm in length and 185 cm in width, you will actually fit two of your mattresses in with them just touching the ends. On top of this space you have the vestibule for gear storage.

What double mattress fits1 answer
Would a Oztrail Double Leisure Mat fit comfortably, to accommodate myself and my wife in the Xtra? If not, what mattress would you suggest? I am also considering theMega (see my inquiry 5days ago) but wondering if that might be TOO big and awkward as a touring tent, especially packing up? I'm hoping to fit a 2mtr x 2.5mtr ARB awning to my 2008 Outback which would shelter our table and chairs, and hopefully work-in with our tent choice well? We would welcome your thoughts and advice.

Hi David, a double mattress will fit in the Malamoo Xtra, it will be tight but manageable and you will still have the awning space for storage. If you want a bit of room to move then the Malamoo Mega is a good choice, and once you have practiced the pack up procedure it's pretty straight forward. As for your other inquiries, it really comes down to personal choic, I think the combination you are looking at will work harmoniously. Hi Richard, the sleeping area of the Malamoo Xtra measures 215 cm, this is from the edge of the vestibule to the very end of the tent. Keep in mind that the ends angle down considerably, reducing the 'usable' space inside the tent. At 6'3" I think you will find it a little squeezy. A more suitable option would be the Speedy 4 person, or for tons of space, the Malamoo Mega.

Hi Nicole, you won't have any problems in mild storms. The Malamoo is really a 2-3 season tent so you will find some limitations in extended or particularly bad weather. As for hot and humid conditions, it has some ventilation, but as you cannot remove the fly it will retain some heat. The EPE Speedy tents have windows on the side which allow more ventilation, this may be preferably for warm weather. Have you considered the pack size of this tent for bike riding? They pack up to a 78cm diameter disc, which would be hard to carry on a bike. Give us a call if you need any further assistance.

Hi Ravi, the Malamoo range are a 2-3 season tent with a 1500mm waterhead rating on the fly, and 3000mm on the floor making it reliably waterproof. It will have limitations in extremely stormy weather, and is not suitable for snow conditions. While the The Malamoo Xtra has some ventilation, it is better suited to cold weather camping as it has no open-able side windows. I hope this answers your questions.

What is the internal floor dimension of the inner tent not including the vestibule. Also does the rating of 2-3 season mean its ok for rain but not snow. 1 answer
I would like to be able to fit a 1.8m x 1.5m queen size self inflating mattress. We plan to travel in the Kimberleys in WA during winter which is theoretically the dry season but it can still be rain particularly on the way up there so I would like to know that rain will be running off not into the tent.

Hi Glen, I have adjusted our product specifitcations to better reflect the dimensions of the Malamoo Xtra. Internally the length is 2.75m at its longest point including vestibule, but the ends curve around so this length quickly shortens as you move away from the centre. By my measurements, you will just be able to fit your queen size mattress in with the corners just pushing against the interior of the tent. As for rain, these carry a 1500mm watrhead on the fly and 3000mm on the floor which is more than adequate for your average rain conditions. I don't recommend the Malamoo Xtra for snow though, the pole structure will not handle the weight.
