There’s no excuse to stay indoors on your devices over a long weekend when you can set up your outdoor sleeping quarters in under 2 minutes. With the latest Instant Up Silver range from Coleman, all you have to do is lay the tent down, spread the fabric out and extend the poles until they lock into place. Simply throw the waterproof fly over the tent and you’re ready to start settling in for a peaceful and dry night's sleep.
Three large mesh windows with roll up flaps keep the tent cool during the day and maintain a steady flow of air at night. The Instant Up has a roomy interior with headspace for even the tallest user, which leaves plenty of room to stand up in and enough floor space to fit a queen air bed.
For a trouble-free set up on your next weekend away, you can’t go past a simple shelter like the Coleman Instant Up.
I have a silver 4P instant up tent, and am considering purchasing the Gold version of the 4P as well. I would like to be able to attach both of the awnings to the one set of poles. My idea is to have both tents facing each other with each awning going onto one pole on each side. Do you think that will work? Thanks. :)
G'day Kym,
We've had a quick chat here in the office and we're pretty sure this will work, or at least we can't think of a reason why it won't. The only thing we can think of is that you'll have to consider where to put the guy ropes, we'd guess maybe going out on an angle and using two guy ropes on each pole, but we think it's a pretty good idea!
Would the Coleman Queen Double-High Quickbed plus a portable cot 76cm (H) x 79cm (W) x 105cm (L) fit well? It's ok if it is snug. Thanks!
G'day Ellie,
Unfortunately it wont. The 4th product image shows the Coleman Instant Up 4P Tent with the COleman Queen Double-High Quickbed inside, so that will give you an idea of fit.
What is the size of the awning/rain fly door and how far does it protrude outside the 2.4mx2.4m perimeter of the tent when set us as an awning?
G'day Kyle,
Great question. Your best option is going to be to have a look at the last image on the product page for the Instant Up 4P. Essentially the front awning comes out 150cm and is just under 240cm wide, and the side awning comes out 150cm and is 240cm wide at the far edge, and a little narrower at the tent edge.
I bought this tent in 2017 from snowy at Adelaide. About two days ago I found there was a little hole on the side of the waterproof fly, about 2cm *2cm. Should I be worried?
G'day Chun,
Thanks for getting in touch, sorry to hear you've discovered a little hole in your tent. If you're worried about it letting in
Which poles do you recommend to purchase for the awning for this tent?
G'day Sophia,
The best awning pole set we sell to use with the Coleman Instant Up 4p would be the Outdoor Connection Dome Tent Awning Poles 2Pk. The other suggestion would be to look at the Coleman Instant Up 4p Gold Series which has two awnings and includes the poles. It'll cost you a little bit more, but it has loads of other extra features you can read about on our blog by clicking here.
** 26/2 update - we've just double checked and the Instant Up 4P does have 2 x canopy/awning poles included.
Is this tent suitable for set up on concrete?
G'day Gemma,
I guess you could pitch these on concrete but make sure you use a ground sheet to protect the floor. Your one big problem will be that you need to peg out the vestibule at the front door, and we'd always recommend pegging out all the guy ropes out in case the wind picks up unexpectedly. So it's not ideal but you might be able to get it to work.
Are the awning poles also included with this product?
G'day Georgia,
The awning poles are only included in the Gold series Instant Up tents sorry. Have a read about all the differences on our blog here.
** 26/2 update - we've just double checked and the Instant Up 4P does have 2 x canopy/awning poles included.
Concerned that the stretchers legs may damage the floor
G'day Kevin,
Most stretchers have a rubber foot plate so should be ok on the floor of your Instant Up 4P tent, but if you're worried you could use some Oztrail Foam Floor Mats to protect the floor under your stretchers.
I'd like to know if this instant tent has better ventilation than the Excursion instant 4p tent? I live in QLD I'm looking for a good allround tent and would like to know which of these 2 tents the instant Up 4p and the Excursion instant 4p...would be the better to purchase. I want good ventilation as well as to keep dry on the odd rain occasion. A good all rounder?
G'day Kristian,
Unfortunately, the Excursion tents from Coleman are exclusive to one of our competitors so I'm not really familiar with them, and I haven't been able to find any good, clear pictures of the inner online to look at the ventilation. Coleman does say on their website that it has oversized windows so it sounds like it might be a good option for you, but you'll need to contact a retailer that sells both if you want a really honest comparison sorry.
How many pockets??? Are they zippered??
G'day Bianca,
I've just double checked our display model for you and can confirm that the Coleman Instant Up 4P Tent has a lantern hook and 2 pots of 3 pockets on each side wall.
Are the windows and front door able to be closed from inside?
G'day Karen,
You'll be able to close the fly door, before then zipping the mesh door of the Coleman Instant Up 4P Tent from the inside. However, unfortunately, there is no way to access the windows from inside as there is no zip around the mesh and so these can only be closed from the outside.
Would the screens be suitable for areas with midges?
G'day Tim,
The mesh on the Instant Up Silver tents are not as fine as No-See-Um or Midge-proof mesh so for that reason I would say that probably aren't a good choice for areas with midges.
We actually have a blog about this very topic which might be helpful for you which you can have a read of here.
Is really the packed length 112cm? Does it fits in the boots? Steve
G'day Steve,
The Coleman Instant Up 4P is 112cm in length when packed down. Whether it would fit in your boot is all dependant on your car size, but it usually fits in most.
Is this the silver range? I'm deciding between this model vs the Fold series. Can you advise the key difference or advantages between the two?
G’day Cindy,
The main difference between the two is that the Instant Up Gold range is slightly more heavy duty than the Instant Up Silver range.
The Gold has a higher waterhead rating at 3000mm, stronger PVC floor, comes with a detacheable side awning for extra shelter, and has slightly finer mesh - but they have the same easy to set up frame.
Both tents are really popular and well loved by our customers so either is a good choice. If you are planning on camping quite regularly in varying weather conditions, the Gold would be the better choice. But if you're not going to use your tent all that much, then you might want to save and choose the standard model instead.
I watched video and find guys on video come with some galvanized pegs. Does it come with tent? How many of them and what is the specification like length and diameter? I am a little bit concern as some reviews from others talking about unsteady or broken situation by wind which is not under warrenty. It is also recommended here to peg and rope down properly. So do I need to buy extra pegs, guy ropes, etc? I found nowhere that states this information even on Coleman official website which is a shame. Would you please give me an advice about what kind of accessories does it come with? Cheers.
G'day Leon,
I have checked the display model Instant Up 4, and this tent comes with guy ropes and pegs included. I’ve measured the pegs that come with the tent and they're 18mm long, and there are 20 included with this tent. You also get 2 extra guy ropes (as there are 4 guy ropes attached to the tent).
We haven’t had any negative feedback regarding rain or wind damage on this particular model, so I’d say that as long as you set your tent up properly and don’t misuse it in extreme weather then you shouldn’t have a problem.
If you’d like sturdier pegs, a good option are the 300 x 8mm size from Poles Apart, you could get an extra 6 pegs for each guy rope point if you’re camping on soft ground, or in windier conditions.
Is this the type of tent with the collapsible poles?
G'day Cas,
Our only store is at 92 Richmond Rd, Keswick, South Australia so that might be a bit too far for a pick up from your location in NSW. The frame of the Instant Up tent folds out and extends - so it's really easy to set up. If you take a look at the second video linked on the product page you can see how the frame works.
Is the inner door double-zippered (have a fly screen inner)?
G'day Cristina,
I've just had a look at our display model to confirm, and yes the Coleman Instant Up 4P has both a zippered mesh and solid door.
Hi I'm an experienced camper, and am looking for something to stand up in. Is this easy to put up if travelling solo??
Hi Suzanne,Â
We've heard great feedback from solo campers about setting up the Instant Up 4, and since you've got experience there shouldn't be any issue with this tent as it's a very manageable size and weight.Â
Setting up the Instant Up 4 is simple - you just take the tent out of the bag, lay it down, spread the fabric out and extend the legs (one at a time) until they lock into place. Then you put the fly over the top, peg everything down and it's ready to go.Â
We have an Instant Up Tent purchased 5 years ago. Quite Ok to put up solo but it is easier with two. I am just putting mine away solo now and whilst it is ok you do have to work at it a bit to get everything back in the bag. Hopefully the bags are a bit bigger these days but mine would be so much easier with a bit more space. I really needed to use the compression straps today. Also be aware of the warning about getting your fingers caught. It is a real warning and really hurts if it happens to you. With two we reminded each other to take care. Alone I forgot and faced the consequences. The tent itself is great and has lasted through think and thin. Ours fits a queens sized double height mattress with some room for gear so we can keep camping although age and illness is overtaking us.
Hi i like to know that if this tent can be set on the sand of a beach? How?
Hi SAD,
You could certainly set this tent up at the beach. The most important thing you'll need is a set of sand pegs, and then you're good to go!
The other thing to keep in mind is that it can often be quite windy on the beach, so you'll need to be sure to use all the guy ropes really well for maximum support for your tent, and try to position yourself somewhere with a bit of protection from the wind if possible.Â
Hi, it seems that every time my family and I go camping, the sun goes camping too and we are left with rain, rain and more rain, one could even include high winds. We have had poles break, water seep up through the floor along with rips in the walls. Would this tent be suitable or is it more for nicer camping weather? Thanks.
G'day Marianne,
I'm sorry to hear that you've had a few mishaps with your tents in the past, but it's good to hear you're willing to give camping another go!
The Instant Up Silver 4P will perform slightly better than the average family dome tent, and it has a few features that help to combat bad weather conditions such as a waterhead rating of 1500mm, Polyethelene floor, and a sturdy steel frame.Â
I would say though, that if you are worried about wet and windy conditions, the Instant Up Gold range has slightly heavier duty features which include a higher waterhead rating at 3000mm, and a stronger PVC floor so that may be a good option for you.Â
If you're still feeling unsure about what tent is best for your family, feel free to give us a call on 1300 914 007 and one of our customer service staff will be happy to talk you through the range.Â
Is the inside roof of the tent a thin mesh?
G'day El,
I've just had a look at our display model, and the inner tent's roof is made from 150 denier polyester. There are mesh panels on the doors and windows, but they can be closed off with solid panels if need be.Â
Is the sale for the 2017 model?
G'day Greg,
I've just double checked in our system, and I can confirm that the Instant Up models that we are selling are definitely the 2017 models from Coleman.Â
Hi there. Just confirming that the 2016 model has a polyester roof panel instead of mesh as in the previous model? Thanks.
G'day Julie,Â
I've just confirmed on our display model that the Coleman Instant Up tents have a polyester inner (including roof) and fly. There are mesh windows and doors but they can be closed off as there are solid zippered doors on each opening.Â
Is this the 2016-17 model?
G’day Cloe, the Instant Up 4P is indeed the 2016 model from Coleman’s range. Coleman don’t usually update their Instant Ups annually, so this one should stay the latest version for the near future.
Hi, could you please advise the width of the front of the awning (pole to pole) and the length of the awning from the pole back to the tent ? Does the awning have any side walls available ? Does the front opening have a zip up door to close up the tent with the awning still up ?
Hi Simon, we don’t have an Instant Up 4P up currently, but we plan to do so today so I will get back to you as soon as possible about your first two questions. In answer to your other questions, the awning has no side walls. The inner tent has both a mesh and solid door that zip up completely so when the awning is up you can still have privacy and light rain protection. As the awning is part of the fly you can’t have the fly zipped up when the awning is extended.
G’day Simon, the tent is now up on the floor so I’ve been able to get those measurements for you. The width of the awning from pole to pole is 1.3m, and the length from the extended awning to the back of the tent is 4.2 metres (the tent measures 2.4m and the extended awning is 1.8m). Thanks so much for bearing with us while we got the answer for you!
