Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter

The fabric used on the Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 is a Polyguard 2X fabric. Despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to get any information on the denier of this particular fabric. In terms of look and feel I would say it more closely resembles the Event 14 standard model than the Deluxe model.

It's hard to say exactly how high the arches on the Fast Pitch Event 12 are. We don't have a display model available to measure, unfortunately. Based on the pictures showing someone standing under the arch we're fairly confident the arch is about 1.8m. The dark haired guy from Coleman in the picture is about 6 foot (1.82m) tall.

I've consulted with one of the staff who's been here a while and is familiar with both models of the Event 12 and his advice is it won't fit, unfortunately.

The Coleman Event 12 is made using waterproof fabrics, so yes, it'll provide reasonable protection in wet weather. You may want to look at adding some walls on to stop rain being driven in sideways. And just be careful if the weather gets too bad, you might need to pull it down if it looks likes it's going to be really windy.

The Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter would be awesome for a full week of camping! Just make sure that you peg it all down and use all the guy ropes. If it happens to get super windy, you might need to take it down but it will be a great in most conditions.

You could use the Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter as a temporary shelter on your balcony with a Sand Bag Kit: https://www.snowys.com.au/standard-sand-bag-kit or Base Pod Kit: https://www.snowys.com.au/base-pod-kit-4pk 

The shelter has been tested at 100kph so theoretically it would be ok to use, however, my suggestion would be to take it down if it is windy and looks unstable as you don't want to risk it, especially from a balcony. It would not be suitable to leave up permanently or unattended. The table in the centre of the balcony should be fine as long as the legs are all on the ground. This should be manageable for one person to set it up with a little practice.

Unfortunately, the Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter doesn't have wheels on the bag, but if you're wanting to make it easier to cart around, then can I suggest one of the Zempire Fold-Away Tent Trolleys? They fold up small, so won't take up too much room & will make it a lot easier to cart your shelter around. You can find the trolleys here.

One of our staff members (Brock) is an expert all things kids birthday parties and children. He said that the Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter sets up a little faster which is great when getting parties organised or dealing with kids running amock. Both are 2 person jobs when setting up though. The Event 14 is a little wider and longer and these really are the main differences between the two.

There is a significant difference in setting up and pack down times. The Event 12 Fast Pitch takes around 5 minutes to get up whereas the Event 14 takes around 20-30 minutes (depending on the number of people and prior experience).  This is primarily due to the different frame design.

The other you might want to consider is the very popular Oztrail Deluxe 3.0 Gazebo available here - although it is a little smaller than the Event 12 Fast Pitch.

If you're looking for strength and stability in the wind, I would recommend you consider the Deluxe Gazebo. Having your guy ropes tensioned will be the key to success in ensuring you create as much stability for the gazebo as possible. If you're on sand, don't forget to add a few sand pegs to your purchase to ensure you get a good hold, especially for the guy ropes.

You've got a few varying models here that you're trying to compare, but I'll try and summarise.

The Coleman Excursion All Night Instant Lighted Shelter is a product that Coleman appear to make specifically for BCF. However, I can't see much difference between their exclusive version and the version available to all retailers which we stock here. The big feature of these All Night Shelters is the built-in LED light strips.

The Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter doesn't include LED lights, but does come with a much stronger canopy and is 65cm wider on each side. I'll need to check with Coleman regarding the text they have added to their website as this is news to us, as we have previously been led to believe that it is waterproof, whereas the All Night Instant Lighted Shelters are not (note that the Green version isn't listed as waterproof online).

In saying this, their advice is what we would encourage for all gazebos and shelters. It's important to remember that they shouldn't be used as permanent structures, nor should they be used in extreme weather (just like most tents). The point they make about guy ropes is a critical one - most damage we see with gazebos and shelters is a result of guy ropes not being used to stabilise and support the frame and canopy.

Our view is that the Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter has a little more durability than that of the Coleman All Night Instant Lighted Shelter, however, the All Night does include LED Lights. In regards to our pricing, this purely reflects our Everyday Low Price, where we seek to offer the best price in Australia.

Sorry - I'm a little confused as to what you have actually seen at BCF. However, I have spoken with Coleman and the Excursion Series is exclusive to BCF. The only difference with the Excursion series is the different colour, there is no difference in construction, design or quality to the models we currently offer.

Coleman offered the advice that their website states. The Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter isn't designed to leak, but also isn't designed as a rain shelter. So while it will provide you with protection during rain, it isn't recommended that you rely upon it during heavy rainfall or for extended periods of bad weather.

If you're looking for a high-quality shelter designed to handle rain, I would recommend you consider the Oztrail or Coleman Deluxe Gazebo range available here.

The Coleman Excursion Series is exclusive to BCF & Rays, so we're not able to stock them at all but having had a quick look on their websites, it doesn't appear that they sell the walls for them either, no.

The walls of the Coleman Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter do reach the floor. However, I wouldn't be confident in the walls protecting against sandflies due to the way in which they clip onto the gazebo frame. With sandflies, you need 100% enclosed protection, which due to design, this Event 12 Shelter can't offer.

The packed dimensions of the Event 12 Shelter are 95L x 26W x 27D cm.

We don't have one of these shelters on display, and I can't seem to find that those details from the supplier - but we do have the Event 14 on display (which is very similar), and that model comes with 16 pegs that are 230mm long.

If I had to give you an estimate, I would say that the Event 12 would perhaps have less pegs, (as it’s smaller) but the size of the pegs should be similar if not identical.

I've just got word from Coleman that they've managed to get the info from their manufacturer, and they've told me that the Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter comes with it comes with four 10 inch (254mm) nail stakes for the feet and four 7 inch (177mm) small pegs for the guyouts.

You shouldn't have any trouble leaving the Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter up over a whole weekend, as long as you peg it out properly, and keep your eye out for any drastic changes in the weather.

The Fast Pitch Event 12 Shelter is going to be significantly simpler to set up in comparison to the Event 14 (we don’t sell the Event 12 and you’ve linked to the 14 – so I hope I haven’t got my wires crossed again).

There double the amount of steps for setting up the Event 14 compared to the Fast Pitch 12, as it requires you to assemble the peak and leg poles with the centre hub etc. It may be helpful to read the instructions here, to get a better idea as they’re quite detailed.  

To set up the Fast Pitch Event 12, you connect the roof poles, assemble side poles sections, attach sides to roof poles, extend corner holders and connect the poles and then attach the fly. The video linked in the product description will give you an idea of how it all comes together.

The Mountain View is going to offer a little bit more stability so it's a great option for when you want shelter up for an entire day as opposed to a couple of hours.

That does mean though, that set-up is more complicated, and will set you back about 20 minutes. This model can also be fully enclosed (includes floor and walls) so it is going to provide more shelter and insect protection than the Event 12.

The Event 12 has a fast pitch frame that will only set you back 5-10 minutes for set-up, so it's best suited for shorter periods compared to an all-day event. 

So if you're just wanting some shelter for picnics or barbeques the Event 12 would be best, but if you want to set up an all day shelter for sporting events etc. then the Mountain View would be better suited to you.

If you compare the Coleman Event 12 Shelter to the Coleman Mountain View Shelter, the Event 12 is going to be a faster set up as it's got a fast pitch system. 

I would say that it will take you around 5-10 minutes to set up for the Fast Pitch, and approx 20 for the Mountain View if that helps.
