How would this handle Winter camping (below the snowline) in possibly rainy and/or windy weather compared to the Coleman lighted Northstar 4p tent? During winter it would mostly be used for 2-4 consecutive days at a time (both in inland and coastal situations). I would plan to use all guy ropes, add trace springs, appropriate pegs (drill pegs or sand pegs depending on the site), adjust or drop the awning when required, and use a groundsheet for either tent. The Coleman sounds like it has all steel poles except for on the vestibule (from the video) compared to the Lumos and seems to generally have really good reviews. However the Lumos has the gusseted windows for greater ventilation when it's raining and the higher denier fly. With your experience and seeing both of them in person, how do you compare their suitability? How do the floors seem to compare, given the lack of waterhead ratings and no denier listed for the Lumos? Thanks for all of the info that you provide on your website.
G'day Camille,
Theres very little difference between these tents in terms of materials and manufacturing quality, so there's no real difference in terms of performance.
You'll ultimately choose between the features - the Lumos has gusseted windows, and rear access. The Northstar doesn't, so sits at a slightly lower weight because of that.
Whichever way you go, you'll have a great tent as long as its supports with the guy ropes and trace springs as you've mentioned.
My new 4P tent has arrived and it is awesome! What are some alternative USB power packs for the lights that you would recommend? I was hoping for a solar alternative if possible. Have zero desire to buy 4xD batteries to just use for lighting. Thanks ☺ï¸
G'day Lima,
You can use any USB power pack, the larger the capacity, the longer the lights will run. If you're wanting to go with solar, then you'd need a small solar panel to pair with the USB power pack, so you can charge it up during the days.
Hello! Does this come with side awnings to make the vestibule bigger? I wish more tent companies would allow this modification
G'day Kelly,
No, this model doesn't have any optional side awning to make the vestibule bigger.
