Compact and durable, the Sea To Summit X Mug is perfect for a warm cuppa at the end of a long day of hiking.
Constructed with European standard compliant food grade silicone and a rigid rim that makes it easy to drink from.
Easily collapsed to a disk that is easily packed away in your rucksack.
Life saver when it came to dehydrated meals. Only use it for water and worked a treat
This is my second one but this time I got it in a different colour. Like other reviewers I noticed that it retains smells too so my original charcoal one is for hot chocolates and the like while the new blue one is for cold drinks. Problem solved.
I love what these do that having an extra one is no hardship. Packs down to nothing, goes inside other x-series stuff, fits a huge volume of liquid compared to regular cups and the measurements inside it have been pretty handy. I even use it as a coaster to keep my "pretty" cup from moving when it's folded shut.
Good sized mug, holds about 480ml. I thought the square lip would be horrible to drink from, but it wasn't. Folds up really flat, its so convenient. Only thing, being silicone it absorbs smells. If you only drink, for eg. coffee from it, thats not a problem. If you change drinks around, it can be a bit weird smelling one thing & tasting another. I just shrugged and ignored it. I found washing it normally then filling it with water seemed to remove any smell.
It works. I have used on the last 2 wilderness walks in the Snowy Mountains. Can be a little tricky handling a hot drink but there is always a work around.
Initially I loved the x-mugs, but what I'm finding is that they don't last very well (starting to tear) and they have a noticeable synthetic smell which affects the flavour of coffee. The smell seems to be getting worse as they x-mugs age. My suggestion is to use the various X-pots and x-kettle but use your old camping mug if you have room in your storage for it.
Oh that's no good, I'm sorry to hear Fayley! Have you tried soaking it with a tablespoon of bleach or baking soda? We're pretty confident this should take care of any built up smell. Laine :)
Great product, awesomeh seHrvice.
Great mug, been using mine for a couple of years now and wouldn't take anything else hiking. Keep buying them for gifts 👍
Love the idea, but have a couple grievances:
+ the folds of the cup are very very thin - I am worried they will tear if I use it for any serious camping;
+ the rim of the cup is brittle plastic - this should have been made from solid silicone (like the X-Shot) as it feels like it could break easily in my pack; and
+the CUP RETAINS SMELLS.
CONCLUSION: The cup is well made, but not tough enough for regular camping. The smell of the cup is horrific after using it once to eat dinner. Rinsed it in cold water and then washed it multiple times with loads of soap and hot water when I got home. It still smells like my dinner even with a cup of tea in it.
G'day Nick, Thanks for sharing your experience, although we're sorry to hear that you're not loving your new mug! After reading your comments, we've decided that we need to write a blog on ways to keep your mug, bottle, cup or bowl odor-free. As far as your situation goes, we'd suggest soaking it overnight with a tablespoon of bleach or baking soda - with water. We're pretty confident that should do the trick. Hope this helps. Laine :)
great little cup, is slightly harder to clean but well worth it for the space saved. packs down inside the sea to summit bowl or kettle too
I love my x-mug. I carry it with me everywhere to avoid plastic and paper cups.
