We don't sell the Universal Lifestraw so can't guarantee compatibility, however, Lifestraw do list Nalgene as one of the brands, on their website.

The Nalgene Tritan Bottles can be filled with boiling water but we'd recommend you not fill it all the way up to avoid any possibility for the cap to crack.

I fill mine with boiling water then pop an old stretched thick explorer sock over it and use it as a hot water bottle at night then by morning have cold drinking available.

The SteriPen Classic 3 i have uses a pre-filter that screws onto the bottle. Is the Nalgene 1L wide mouth and the pre-filter the same thread?

Yes, the pre-filter on the SteriPen Classic 3 will fit on to the Wide Mouth Nalgene bottle, they use a standard thread size which is common to Nalgene Wide Mouth and the Camelbak Eddy and Chute range.
