If the child is right handed does this mean right zipper is best?

G'day Ann,
The zipper side is allocated when lying on your back, so a Right Hand Zipper will run down the Right-Hand side, and Left down the left hand side. We find that most right-handed people purchase a Left Hand Zipper, as you'll reach across with your dominant hand to unzip.

It depends a little on the height of the 12-year-old. The Black Wolf Star 300 Kids Sleeping Bag is designed for someone up to 170cm tall. If your child is 170cm or nearly there, then it might be worthwhile investing in an adults sleeping bag.
