If you want an air conditioner right by your side, the Companion Rechargeable Mini Evaporative Cooler is indispensably portable so you can place it in your tent, on a desk or just hold it in your lap on hot summer days.
Simple to use touch button controls with an integrated light operate a two-speed adjustable direction fan for air movement, and a cooling function to bring down the temperature, all packed in a compact unit that can go anywhere.
Rechargeable from both 12V DB and 240V AC, the Companion Rechargeable Mini Air Conditioner is a perfect companion for summer camping.
I can not believe some of the comments in these reviews. They expect $120 12volt cooler to perform like a $3500 aircon. This little unit is a beauty, ideal to give you relief on hot dry days upto 30c with all the windows open in our motorhome. Evap coolers of any size will not work in high humidity,so turn on the refrigerated aircon, but you will need to close all the windows and doors.
Great design package, but unfortunately largely ineffective! Opted to by a cheep box fan at our first location, which was great! Unfortunately, only 240 volt.
I'm sorry to hear that Chris - as these evaporative coolers are fairly new to us, we'd like to know more about why the cooler isn't... well, cooling.
If you have a second free, could you please send us an email (email@example.com), we'd like to see what we can do. Laine :)
I purchased the mini cooler despite mixed reviews as i couldn't find anything similar online and the weather was getting hot. It is easy to use and has a rechargeable battery which is handy if you don't have power. It blows air around and is better than having nothing on a hot day, we are happy with our purchase. If you are looking at getting something to cool your tent/camper down maybe look at getting a reverse cycle aircon but you won't find anything this size.
As I'm a truckie chick without a bunk cooler at present I brought this hoping it would help me alittle....And it does keep it pretty cool as long as you start it up as soon as you pull up for your rest break understandably - providing, it's no hotter than 25 degrees. Then I'm sorry it can't handle it. But all in all it's not too bad providing it gets no hotter than 25 degrees
It is really good for the camper van keeps it cool and comfortable the fan could be a little bit stronger but it did the job
I have difficulty breathing due to throat cancer and I find that breathing is a bit more laboured during hot weather so as I sit at the computer a fair bit I use the cooler to blow air at me and I feel a lot more comfortable. Thanks a lot. Very satisfied customer.
I have the older model. It looks similar but the new one on sale now looks more sleek. I have used it in very hot and humid conditions as a lap cooler, it does the job! Or if I wanted to sleep I'd position it about 70cms from my head. I have had no problems with the unit. I am very happy with the product. It is small, so don't think this is the answer to cooling off a room or caravan. I have used it longer than 7hrs on a full charge. When operating it in the air con mode, make sure it is on a level surface because it will start leaking water. Great little product!
bought this when contemplating significant periods of very hot days along the Murray. While the fan could be stronger, the cooler works quite fine and takes the edge of sleeping in tents on those extreme days/nights
I bought this Evap cooler thinking it would be better than a pedestal fan. The main reason was for my 11 month old to take a nap and take the edge off the heat. Used it on a 25c degree day and a 40c day and both times absolutely useless!! There is no point in wasting space with this item. I can't believe I paid $120 for this! Very upset customer!
Sorry to hear this has not lived up to your expectations Jodie. We have had mixed feedback on this evaporative cooler, mostly good, often the negatives are from users expecting it to cool a large area. With regards to it performing better than a pedestal fan, the air to be coming from the unit should be cooler, but it won't move as much air simply because of the smaller comparative size. That being said, we want our customers to be happy with every purchase, and we value all feedback on the products we choose to sell. Please get in touch so we can make things right for you ~ Ben.
Does this unit work from a cigarette lighter plug and does it come with this attachment. Also can it run on a 240 volt supply?
The Companion Mini Evaporative Cooler comes with both a 240V AC and a 12V DC cigarette lighter adapters so you can run it from vehicle or wall power outlet.
our water container split need new one
Good news is that water container is available as a spare part, but as Companion have just updated this Cooler we'll need to know which model you have.
Give our customer support team a call on 1300 914 007, and we'll be able to sort something out for you.
Thanks for previous replies. Can you tell me please, do you sell extra 6v batteries for the Companion. Does the one battery have "at least" 6 hours on low speed or is that maybe a little overstated as I have read. Thanks
We don't sorry Terry, they are not readily available 'off the shelf'. However, the battery is removable, so we would be able to get one as a spare part, or it is highly likely that somewhere like Battery World would have a suitable replacement. As for the run time, this is an average and can vary slightly. We have not tested the full run time, so if you have read experiences by others then this is probably a good indication. We are working on getting new images from our supplier and will have these uploaded as soon as we can.
Can a separate item be purchased that will cut out the Companion when the battery voltage falls below a certain level
Nothing I am aware of sorry Terry, at least not in our range anyway. It's probably a question for an auto electrician, sorry I could not be of much help.
I assume, when plugged into a caravan 12v socket the Companion will cut out when the voltage falls below say 10.5?
It doesn't have a cutout to save your battery sorry Terry, you'd be best using it on an auxiliary battery, or monitoring your battery during use. To give you some figures to work with, the built-in 6V battery is rated at 4.5Ah, which gives about 4 hours of run time on high. A larger battery would give a much longer run time.
I assume I can use the Companion - plugged into the caravan 12v socket and also use the battery for part of the night?
If the internal battery runs flat, you can run the Evaporative Cooler from a 12V cigarette socket or 240V outlet Terry, the only concern is that it will continue to drain the battery. It would depend on the size of your battery as to how long it would run. The built-in battery is 6V, 4.5ah, so a 12V car battery would provide a much longer run time. Just a heads up on this too, Companion have updated this Evaporative cooler, we have the current model in stock, but the images are still the old model, we are currently chasing up new images for this.
How long does the 800ml last and does it have an external water bag like i have seen on other camping air coolers
Hi Julieann, this cooler uses 50ml of water per hour, so the 800ml tank will last for 16 hours run time. The water tank is in the bottom of the unit, you can see it in the picture there :)
Have lost both power supplies and looking to re-purchase. Thanks
