What sort of battery could this reasonably be expected to charge? And would it matter if its lead acid or lithium? I'm wondering if it is enough for car camping.
G'day Sooz,
The 45W Solar Mat Kit is a good medium size panel that can charge a small lead-acid battery or a USB powerbank. Their maximum power output is 3.1Amp so the panel will likely take a full day or longer to charge a small car-sized battery. It's hard to say whether it will be enough for your car camping as it really depends on what you're trying to run. We've got a great blog that outlines Battery and Solar Setups that might help you work out exactly how much power you'll need.
Just wondering if this always has to have a 12v battery connected when in the sun or can it just run USB only? Cheers
G'day Pete,
We've just double checked this in the product manual and yes you can charge directly via USB from the output on the back of the panel.
Can this panel run my 12v 3A fan for 8 hrs
G'day Anthony,
That's a tricky one to give a direct answer as the sun can be variable, and therefore the output power on the PWRGRID 45W Solar Mat Kit will reflect this. The USB outlet is only 2A so you could use the Anderson Plug that is rated to 30A depending on the attachment your fan uses. So in conclusion, it's hard for us to say without knowing exactly which fan you have, and what the weather conditions will be like.
