Representing true on-the-road royalty, the Panther 1600 Rooftop Tent by 23Zero raises expectations.
The lift and fold design enables a quick set up by sundown and pack down by the crack of dawn, from those prompt stopovers to those drawn out days of outdoor indulging. Strong enough to support big dreams, the two piece aluminium baseboard boasts a lightweight honeycomb construction and is topped with a memory foam mattress and polyester quilt for plush comfort out bush. Turn it on when off the grid, owing to the LED strip lighting with USB plugs – and power up down under, with T-slot racks that enable solar panel mounting.
With arched windows on either side, achieve optimum ventilation and a dry interior during adverse weather – and swap the city lights with the outback night, thanks to a removable flysheet and stargazing roof window. Keep the tackle together in the internal storage pockets, and keep your kicks from heading up sticks with external shoe pockets. To maximise the storage space in your vehicle too, your sleep setup can remain stowed and secured in the tent. Built in elastic shock bands allow for packing flat without the bulge.
With rugged durability from the racks to the roof, the 23Zero 1600 Rooftop Tent sits above the rest.

Wind noise1 answer
What’s the wind noise like in the tent? For example the drifta brand tent has a lot of bad reviews for being extremely noisy in the wind.
Luke - Crystal Brook, SA (3 months ago)
G'day Luke,
The only thing we really have to go off here is customer feedback, and in this case we havent had any complaints. Everyone we know who has a Panther has loved it so far. If you're expecting a fair bit of wind, the key is going to be as much about how you orient you vehicle and set your tent up to minimise the disturbance. I think if you're mindful of that, you shouldnt have too many issues.

Dust proof 1 answer
Does dust get in under the cover? I do caps York and red dirt country?
Ramon - Mackay, QLD(1 year ago)
G'day Ramon,
I've just spoken to 23Zero on this one as we havent had much feedback from customers from this kind of touring specifically. They've said you'll likely get alittle bit of dust around the outside on the bottom edge of the canvas where is attaches to the base, but nothing more than that. The seal is pretty good, and anything that might get through that is stopped by than canvas skirt edge. Hope that helps.

Annex option2 answers
I noticed there are zips around the front of the fly/awning. Is there an annex option for this RTT?
Kendall - Balnarring, VIC (2 years ago)
There are now two annex options for this tent, available from 23zero. One basic change room style, and another larger additional living space style annex.
Can the tent be mounted 180° to the recommended way? So the opening is on the passenger side, and not the driver side? Tent is being mounted to be the same as the cab height of a ute so it’s purely for aesthetics. I’m assuming the wind resistance won’t change too much being a flush cab height
Johnno - Moe, VIC(2 years ago)
G'day Johnno,
As long as your roof racks allow it, the rooftop tent can be mounted any way you like - opening to either side, or the rear.

Suitable solar panel1 answer
Can you recommend a suitable solar panel to fit to the tracks? having a hard time figuring out what will fit. thank you
Dean - Charlemont, VIC (2 years ago)
G'day Dean,
We've given the dimensions & space to consider with the mounting rails on another question:
The tracks are 79cm long, and measure 90cm apart from the center of each track.
So something like the Hard Korr 170W Fixed Panel would work, but you'd need to source some solar brackets of compatible mounting brackets from your local hardware. The Panther rails have channels similar to standard roof racks.

Mounting Rails1 answer
How far apart are the mounting Rails on the Base of the Tent, I would like to mount it on a Small Trailer with strong Carry Bars
Mal - Nundah, QLD(2 years ago)
G'day Mal,
Centre to centre on the mounting rails is 80cm. Hope that helps & fingers cross it will work for your trailer, sounds great!

Weight capacity on roof racks1 answer
Is there any way of reducing the weight by .6kg? Can you remove the mattress, would this weigh .6kg? If the capacity of the roof is 80kg, rails are 5kg and the tent needs to be max 75kg dynamic weight for it to be compliant on the warranty with the railing system.
Karina - Hughesdale, VIC(2 years ago)
G'day Karina,
You can remove the mattress, I'd say it would be more that 600g. Not sure how functional this would be though, as the mattress is not a roll up type, or one designed to be packed away. It is in two connected pieces to account for the tent folding up, but I think it would be a challenge. The doorway windows on the roof top tent are narrow and the mattress doesn't easily pull out through them - especially when you're having to do that on top of a ladder.
It may be worth considering a different option that weighs less, ideally not a hardshell option as these tend to be a lot heavier.

Top hull mounting tracks1 answer
What is the length and inter track spacing of the top hull mounting tracks/rails
Denis - East Fremantle, WA (2 years ago)
G'day Denis,
The tracks are 79cm long, and measure 90cm apart from the center of each track. Hope that helps.

Ladder1 answer
Can you detach the ladder easily?
Jason - Garden Suburb, NSW(2 years ago)
G'day Jason,
The ladder is attached by bolts and packs up with the rooftop tent. It's also the main mechanism for setting up and packing away the tent, so generally wouldn't be removed. Hope the helps.

Suitable self inflating mattress 1 answer
Can you please let me know which self inflating mattress would be best for this RTT?
Romy - Lara, VIC (2 years ago)
G'day Romy,
Given that the Panther fully folds in on itself, it's not suitable for use with a self-inflating mattress as these cannot be packed away with the tent. If you are happy to set the mattress up & remove it each time, then a mattress within the rough dimensions of 200L x 133W cm would be the way to go.
