Does the lid need to be closed on this to cook similar to the Weber Q's?
Kane - Austral, NSW(6 months ago)
G'day Kane,
Basically you'd just use it like you would a BBQ at home. If you're doing active cooking or grilling, then no. If you've got thicker steaks, etc and the wind is up a bit, or you want to cook something like a roast, etc then you'd have the lid down.
Hope that helps!

bbq dimensions 1 answer
How deep is the bbq counting the handle on the lid i need it to fit in a locker on the side of my van the packed height is under 30cm and the length is fine but the depth of my locker is only 40cm thanks
Peter - Kingsley, WA(7 months ago)
G'day Peter,
The packed dimensions are based on the most external points as we understand most people rely on these for determining packing space. The depth of the Oribtal BBQ when pack up (including handle, hinges, etc) is 42cm. It may be a bit fiddly, but you could consider removing the handle when you're packing it away.

3/8 BSP COMPATABILITY1 answer
Hi guys, Is this compatible with a 3/8 BSP connection? I use the 2kg gas bottles while camping.
Nathan - Helensburgh, NSW (7 months ago)
G'day Nathan,
This BBQ comes with the LCC27 gas hose, which I think is an Australian Gas Association requirement for the flame failure/safety features that these BBQ's need now days. I'm not sure if you can straight swap with a 3/8th BSP hose, the product manual suggests only to use with the provided hose. We don't currently carry anything that on paper would one suitable but it does look like Gasmate have a range of options on their website. I'd probably give them a buzz and get the advice straight from the manufacturer - we're a bit limited by operation guidelines, but they might be happy to give other info.

Hole in gas inlet pipe? 1 answer
Is there supposed to be a hole in the gas inlet pipe? It’s square in shape and goes through the top and bottom of the pipe where it comes out of the BBQ enclosure.
Andrew - Geelong, VIC(10 months ago)
G'day Andrew,
I've just spoken to Gasmate and yes there is supposed to be a hole in the gas inlet. The square hole is an air inlet and is needed for the air to mix with gas where the gas is drawn in.
The reason gas won't leak out of those air inlet holes in your BBQ is because they're there to let air in. These holes work by mixing the air with the gas before it gets to the burners, creating that perfect blend for a good flame. The design is smartly crafted to keep the gas contained until it reaches the burners, where it's meant to be used for cooking. Those inlet holes are cleverly positioned to make sure your BBQ works safely and cooks up a storm without any gas escaping into the air around you.

Boil A Billy1 answer
Does the setup allow you to lift the grill and safely boil a billy over its gas flame. Trying to ascertain if this unit replaces the need to take a butane stove camping.
Grayzee - Adelaide, SA(10 months ago)
G'day Grayzee,
I wouldn't say so, removing the grill will expose the burner which doesn't have the capability to sit a pot or billy over. It may be something that you can solve with a DIY solution, using a steamer rack or cake cooling rack type thing to sit over the top instead of the cast iron hotplate. It's not something we've tried out ourselves though, so we can't say for sure if it would work.

Flame safe1 answer
Does this bbq have the flame safe guard required for caravan hook up
Andrea - Ipswich, QLD (12 months ago)
G'day Andrea,
This BBQ does not have a flame safeguard device fitted to hook up to a Caravan. Under the new regulations none of the stoves we currently stock have this feature or ability to connect to a Caravan bayonet system. Some more caravan-specific stores will have suitable stoves, hopefully we will have something in the future!

Can it be used for baking a cake?1 answer
Hey there, can this unit be used for baking a cake etc?
Yonni - Lilydale, VIC (1 year ago)
G'day Yonni,
I cant see any reason why you couldn't, some customers have happily baked bread in theirs. The main thing would be keeping a consistent temperature, with wind being the big factor that would effect this. I think if you've got your BBQ set up somewhere sheltered, you should be fine.
