Yes that would be the case, this bag doesn't have an overly large hood so it wouldn't be too much in your way - but you won't be able to avoid the hood entirely, so that's something to keep in mind.
can you zip these bags together to make a double?

You can zip two of the Mudgee C5 sleeping bags together, just not other models in the Coleman range. You would have to open them both up fully, and then lay one on top of each other and zip them up though (instead of side by side).
