If you prefer your swag to blend into the lay of the land, then the Khaki version is built just for you. Constructed from tough 330gsm ripstop canvas to keep off the elements from above, and with a 520gsm PVC vinyl bucket floor to protect you from sodden ground – the Mitchell is built for Aussie conditions.
The large full top opening makes getting in and out of this swag easy, while the head and foot awnings facilitate ventilation. When the weather is cold keep the canvas layer zipped up, and when it heats up unzip to the No-See-Um mesh layer for airflow and insect protection in a warm climate.
This dome swag features Durallium 7001 Alloy poles for stability and to increase your interior space, and you can add an optional centre ridge pole to pitch the Mitchell without guy ropes. The 5cm high-density open-cell foam mattress provides a solid base to sleep on, and you can keep your phone or headtorch close in the two inner storage pockets.

Staff tip:This swag comes in a tightly compressed manner, it's easier to store and transport that way. Before use, we recommend leaving the swag unrolled for a few days to allow the mattress to expand to its full potential.
Staff tip:In the video, Ben mentions that the Mitchell Discovery comes in four different colours, which was correct at the time of filming, however, it is only available in Khaki now.

I have a single Mitchell Discovery and wondering if the Zempire King single Monstamat will fit the swag? And will it roll up around the same size as I use it on my motorcycle ?

Yes the Zempire King SIngle Monstamat should suit your Mitchell Discovery Swag with no worries at all. It will likely pack down a little smaller than with the standard foam mattress.

Tight Zips?1 answer
I just picked this up from Brendale with a ridge pole kit. I find getting the zips past the centre pole tricky and then again trying to bring the zips to the top at the centre. Letting a bit of tension off the ridge pole makes is a little easier but then the swag looks a bit loose/saggy. Is there a trick I am missing?

Thanks for getting in touch, we can certainly provide some tips to help ensure your new swag functions well. Generally, when swags are brand new the canvas is taught and stiff, which can sometimes lead to a bit of tension across those pole points. With a little bit of use, the canvas will become a little more flexible which should make the issue less prevalent. The other thing that will help is to season the swag. What is the difference between a Mitchell Discovery Swag and a Mitchell Expedition Swag?1 answer

The Oztrail Mitchell Expedition in an entry level swag with a lighter weight canvas (230gsm versus 330gsm) than the Mitchell Discovery. Apart from that, they have the same sleeping area and head height and both are a great option.

The Oztrail Mitchell Discovery swags are waterproof. But don't forget to have a read of our swag care guide on our blog. That'll talk you through seasoning the canvas before you head out in the field with it to make sure you stay dry. The GSM rating is referring to the weight of the fabric so it is a good guide to how strong the fabric will be.

Mattress size1 answer
What size is the mattress in this supposed to be? I just received one, and although the length of the swag is as specifed at 210cm, the mattress is only 190cm long. I have the Mitchell Expedition Double, and in that the mattress fills the whole floor and is 210cm long. Could be a problem for me as I'm taller than 190cm...

Like with most swags, the mattress in the OZtrail Mitchell Discovery KS Swag comes in a vacuum-packed state, so it can sometimes take up to 48 hours to get to its full size the first time you open it. What Sleeping bag fit this swag?1 answer
I'm looking at a sleeping back to use in this swag. I will be using the swag in the SE of South Australia, to the bush between Broken Hill & Bourke.

I would suggest that the best sleeping bag for your trip would be a Coleman Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bag. Most bags would fit fine but this one would be nice and warm and doesn't have a hood.

There isn't a double swag in the Oztrail Mitchell Discovery range, no. We do have doubles of the Mitchell Expedition, Sturt Expedition, Pioneer Discovery, Ridgeback Discovery & Cooper Expedition, however.

Centre Ridge Pole1 answer
If you have the extra Centre Ridge pole, do you still need to have the centre hoop pole inside the swag or is just the end hoop poles enough ? Thanks

Depending on how you tension the Oztrail Mitchell Discovery KS Swag at each end whether it be with the ridge pole or with the guy ropes, you won't need the middle pole to hold the swag up. The primary purpose of the middle pole is to give the swag structure and shape, which is most useful when it rains to prevent sagging and ensure runoff.
