Companion Maxi Evaporative Portable Cooler

This evaporative cooler is a chordless rechargeable, battery-powered unit.  It doesn't come with a 12v or 240v power option so theres no power consumption information available.
When it's plugged in, the cable is only charging the internal battery.  As the battery is 6Ah & it takes approx 12hrs to recharge, we can assume recharging the battery requires 0.5Ah.

As the cooler itself will draw from the internal battery faster than the battery can charge, trying to run the unit whilst charging will likely result in permanent battery damage.

The evaporative coolers do not come was a coverage specification, however, they are designed to cool "small spaces".  The Maxi unit has a larger capacity air output than the mini cooler.
If in doubt, go for the larger option.

The Maxi Evaporative Portable Cooler has a maximum fan air volume of 250 cubic metres per hour. Unfortunately, there is no measured data for the low setting so it's hard to give an accurate figure.

Based on customer feedback, most people are using them in caravans and finding that it does suit a medium-size room quite well. I would dare say it should do an adequate job in a dog trailer, however it would only be suitable while you're stationary as they can't be used while in motion due to the water well inside of the unit.

I would say the Maxi Evaporative Cooler will keep you cooler than a general fan, however, it may depend on the size of the tent you're using it in.

Yes, you can use the Maxi Evaporative Portable Cooler while it is plugged in, it just won't charge the battery at the same time.

Theoretically, you could charge the Maxi Evaporative Portable Cooler using the 12V cigarette cable from your vehicle, or through a 12V to 120V transformer. However, the AC adapter is designed for 240V use as it has been designed for purchase in Australia. We only ship within Australia, so if you did end up purchasing it we'd have no way to ship the unit to you.

The information available doesn't list a wattage to charge the battery, but I can tell you that it will draw 3 Amps when charging from 12V (cigarette socket). Doing a rudimentary wattage calculation this is equivalent to 36 Watts.

The Maxi Evaporative cooler comes with a 240V adapter, Moses, there's no need to purchase one separately.

Sorry mate but we're not sure exactly how fast the battery will drain when not in use. If you can't charge the unit shortly before you're going to use it I'd recommend disconnecting the battery terminals reduce any drain to an absolute minimum.

The Rechargeable Maxi Evaporative Cooler is 33W x 34H x 18D cm. I assume this would suit your mobility scooter as long as the path is not too bumpy as there might be a risk of spilling the water.

The Companion Rechargeable Maxi Evaporative Cooler has a standard 6V, 4.5A battery in it that you should be able to pick up from any major battery supplier (battery world or jaycar) should you need to replace the battery in the unit.

Unfortunately, Companion hasn't given us any extra data on the % of humidity or the cooler's effectiveness in such conditions.  I've also opened the box and had a read of the user info for you, but to no avail.  The best insight I can offer is that if you are in any conditions where humidity is noticeable, like with all evaporative systems, the cooler would not offer any reprieve.  Sorry I couldn't help further.  Cheers :)

The blades of the Companion Rechargeable Maxi Evaporative Cooler are approximately 18cm in diameter.

You just need to remove the battery door and then let the battery drop out (might need a small nudge) - it shouldn't be locked in place. You should then find tape over one of the battery terminals. The one I just checked had the positive terminal taped over.

To date, this hasn't been sorted by Companion yet but the charging light is still staying red when the Maxi Evaporative Cooler is fully charged. I know that they're aware of the issue and I expect that it will be resolved at some point but I can't say exactly when that will be. The good thing is that we know it doesn't affect the operation of the unit at all, they still work well!

The Companion Rechargeable Maxi Evaporative Cooler will run off external 12/240V sources, but the battery will only charge when the unit is switched off. You can download the instructions to have a look at a more detailed description here.

Good question. This is a tough one to test, but I've just read through all the technical information for the Companion Rechargeable Maxi Evaporative Cooler and there doesn't appear to be any motion sensor built in.

Howdy Ash. These evaporative coolers are more a personal item than a room cooler as such. This particular one out of the two we do stock is more likely to cool an RV5 than perhaps the smaller compact version. 

A couple of things that you do need to take into consideration would be air flow. You need to have air come in one side behind the fan, and blow out the other side of the ten in order to get proper cooling. Humidity is also an issue. Unfortunately, humid air cannot be cooled by an evaporative cooler. The cooler itself will create its own cool humidity that affects the body. So in humid weather you might find it less effective than on a drier day. 

In saying that, these area coolers are fairly effective and can really help you enjoy your camping experience on a hot day or night much more than without.
