Hi, I wanted to know the approximate time it takes until it's fully self-inflated?
G'day Jack,
It can take a few days in a warm room for the mattress to fully inflate for the first time, and it can help to manually pump some air in aswell.
Usually it takes a few trips away, or uses of the mattress, for it to fully soften and reach its full potential. Its not unique to this particular mat, and is usually the case with any self inflating mattress.
Hope that helps!
Hi, I wanted to know what the thickness of the mattress is when the air has been sucked/squeezed out? I'm thinking of putting this in a hardshell rooftop tent which doesn't have too much extra room in it.
G'day Phil,
Probably around the 5-6cm mark. Do want to just highlight that self-inflating mats are not designed to be left in a roof top tent, even hard shell ones, with one of the main reasons being temperature variation & how that may effect the glue/bonding in the mat.
We have had customers with issues in the past & warranty wont be covered if you leave self-inflating mats in roof top tents.
Just something to be mindful of if you that's what you're keen to do.
Can you advise the R rating of this self inflating bed please?
G'day Allan,
Darche haven't tested this for an R-Value so it is unspecified and they don't provide a rating. This is a thick 10cm mattress and would keep you insulated in the cold weather regardless.
Presumably you can't remove the cover to clean it?
G'day Gareth,
No, this is a self inflating air mattress with bonded foam and material. There is no cover on it persay, as it's all one complete thing. You'd be better off using a fitted sheet or similar if you are worried about the mattress getting dirty,
I seldom camp in winter so only care about comfortable. Will this one be more comfortable than the 20cm thick Coleman all terrain airbed? What will be the main feeling difference when sleeping on between those two?
G'day Chris,
Comfort is very much subjective & a difficult one to answer - you could ask a few people and get conflicting answers.
I'm personally not a fan of air mattress' now that self inflating options are more common. I don't find them overly comfortable, they always require a pump, and are more prone to punctures.
Having said that though, they are a very economical option, can pack smaller for their size, and generally have good feedback.
I'd say if you don't care about insulative properties & don't need to consider sleeping cold, and can remain aware of puncture prevention, the air mattress may be a good option.
I'd encourage you to read through some of the product reviews from our customers to get a better idea of real life comfort and use feedback to help you make your decision!
What is the easiest way to add air manually once the mat has inflated and its not firm enough. Thanks.
G'day Sophie,
The easiest way is to just blow air into it. The Kozi mat is antibacterial, so there's no problem putting your breath into it, and by the time it self inflated there's not a huge amount more air needed to get it firm.
Alternatively, there are a few mattress pump options available, which you can find here. These range from manual, to powered, to chordless rechargeable.
Just bare in mind if you choose a powered pump, you'll need to be careful not to overinflate the mattress - it may tear the bonding between the outer fabric and internal foam.
Which one is better oztrail mats or darche koczi?
G'day Edy,
The Kozi Double Self-Inflating mats are pretty new, so we've not had a lot of feedback on them yet, but they appear to be a great quality product at a budget-friendly price. We no longer carry Oztrail Leisure mats, however do have the new 3D Fatmat 1500 - they look like a great product, and are similar to our Exped and Zempire options. They're also quite new, so we've not had a lot of feedback yet.
I notice that the OZtent RV5 has a sleeping space of 2600mm, so therefore technically should fit 2 of this double mats @1270mm x 2 = 2540mm. Can you please measure the actual sleeping space from an RV5 Oztent in store?
G'day Edy,
Due to the size of the mattresses, and the internal frame you won't be able to fit two double mats without damaging the frame or mattresses. You lose about 5cm on either side of the tent due to the frame, so realistically you have 240-250cm of space to fit sleeping gear across the tent.
How does this compare to the Monstamat twin and High Peak double for comfort?
G'day Brad,
The Kozi Mattress is the firmest out of all 3, and has slightly stiffer fabric.
It's more similarly comparable to the older style 4WD mats, but with a fabric cover instead of PVC/Velour, but visually looks similar to other brands of self-inflating mats currently on the market.
Because its quite firm, it would probably be a good option for side sleepers!
