G’day Pina, the weather conditions you have described are going to be very challenging no matter what tent you have – 60mls is a lot of rain. The Coleman Instant Traveller has a rating of 1200mm, and its floor isn’t heavy duty so in torrential rain this tent will be pushed to its limits. We’d recommend a dome tent with a waterhead rating of at least 2000mm, and if you’re willing to spend more – a model with a heavy duty PVC floor.

Thanks for asking Khal. I would not expect the tent to become see-through, but if you're using a bright light inside the tent then you would most likely be able to see the shadows from the outside. There are some advantages to the lighter coloured fabric though - it should stay cooler on hot days and not retain the heat as much as the darker, heavier tents. The new Instant Up tents are a bit more heavy duty - the frame is stronger so it's likely to withstand windy conditions better, and it also has a higher waterhead rating so will take more of a downpour.
