The Black Wolf Grasshopper 3 is distinguished from other 3-Season two-person hiking and backpacking tents by an innovative pole configuration that gives it the stability of a dome tent, good headroom and two convenient entrances with convenient vestibules covering both.

The ripstop polyester PU fly and floor materials and heat-taped seams ensure water repellency in bad weather, while the dual side vestibules are invaluable for storing your boots, pack, and even your wet or muddy gear out of your sleeping space. Pitching is easy, as the poles, pole end webbing and clips are colour coded which make pitching super-fast. This tent features a tear drop shaped door with zips all around on either side, which makes accessing the Grasshopper easy.

There is excellent air flow through the mesh inner, plus extra vents in the fly. The reflective strips mean the tent is easy for you to locate at night, while during the day the ecologically friendly green colour blends in with the environment.

Presume it doesn't come with a footprint. Do you have one that fits this tent, and how much heavier will it be? The cost? Thanks.

You're right, Black Wolf don't produce footprints for their hiking tents. While the tent floor is very durable, If you're looking for a cost effective groundsheet for this tent, the best we could recommend is a lightweight tarp which can be found here.

Hey Liam,

The 'Grasshopper 3' has a large mesh internal pocket in the roof plus tabs that you can attached gear to. It also has pockets in each corner for storing small items so it's all organised for you!

Sleeping area dimensions 1 answer

Hi, can you please confirm the sleeping area dimensions of the Black Wolf Grasshopper 3 tent? In the picture it shows the area as 275cm x 210cm, however in the details it says the sleeping area is only 210cm x 180cm. I need to know the size as I plan to use it as mozzie dome for my double swag (230cm long) as well as for hiking. Thank you

Hi Katherine. Thanks for your question. The sleeping area dimensions for the Black Wolf Grasshopper 3 Tent is 210cm L x 180cm W. The external dimensions of 220cm L x 285cm W indicate the stretched and pegged fly and front door flap when extended.

can it be set up easy by one person1 answer

Looking at buying this tent, but how easy is it to set up by one person, the 2 person version of this tent i just fit in so i am looking at this one. will be doing a lot of hiking and beach camping, normally by myself

It is always easier with two people Mark, but perfectly manageable by one. Pitching a tent by yourself just takes a little longer, and some careful handling to ensure one pole end doesn't come out as you attempt to place the other. You'll work out a system after doing it once or twice.

The Grasshopper, with a full mesh inner, would be classed as a 3 season tent Lilian. It could still be used in some four season conditions but it is important to understand its limitations. In the case of the Grasshopper, it will perform well in wet and windy conditions, but does not have a pole structure suitable for snow conditions, nor will it retain the same amount of heat as a tent with a full nylon inner.

Midgie Proof No-See-Um Mesh?1 answer

Hi Team, I am frequently camping in midgie areas and wish to know if the mesh in this tent is exactly the same, if not better material than the Black Wolf "Stealth Mesh" tent, for keeping out midgies, please? This is a critical factor for me. I would need to return item if the mesh doesn't satisfy this standard exactly. Also, I am unable to locate any video reviews online for this tent. Hi Lindon, I compared the mesh on our display tents, and it both feels and looks to be exactly the same, so it would offer the same midge protection that a Black Wolf Stealth would. Black Wolf use the same mesh across their whole hiking range. With regards to video reviews, I am not aware of any, but I know that the pole structure is used quite widely in 3 season tents and it creates a reliable, stable and roomy structure. It is suitably waterproof for all but the worst of Australian conditions but is most suited to mild, humid or warm weather.
