Take it easy under some shade when you’re camping, watching sport, relaxing at the beach or enjoying a picnic lunch with a Falcon 270 Awning from 23ZERO attached to your vehicle.
This awning can be mounted on dual-cabs, and general canopy and wagon arrangements. It’s constructed from a hard-wearing, proofed 280gsm polycotton tear check canvas which has a 1500mm polyurethane coating to make it abrasion, UV and mould resistant. The underside of the awning features an LST coating that will keep you cooler while diffusing the sunlight and UV rays. It also features aluminium box extrusion rafters with cast alloy hinges making it lightweight at under 19kg. Setup can be achieved by one person in 60 seconds and it has integrated swing down pivoting telescopic legs for easy setup and pack down.
You can also purchase two separately available side walls which will enclose the awning for extra wind protection and shelter. You’ll always have reliable protection from the elements for your spontaneous day trips, or longer adventures with the Falcon 270 Awning from 23ZERO.
Can it be mounted onto 2 crossbars on my canopy?
G'day Liam,
No, it can't sorry. The 270 awning comes with 3 brackets that need to be installed in order for the awning to be safely mounted.
How long are the bolts in the mounting kit?
G'day Beatrice,
The bolts supplied in the mounting kit are purely to attach the Awning backing plate to the bracket.
There are only U-Bolts supplied for mounting to your vehicle - is it the U-Bolt size you are wanting to know?
Yes please
So the overall height of the U-Bolt is 70mm, with the gap between the two end prongs being 40mm.
Hope that helps!
Hi I was wondering if there is a replacement arm if one of the swing arms snapped?
G'day Hannah,
They're not available as a retail part, but it may be possible to organise one through 23Zero directly.
You can get intouch with them here:
https://23zero.com.au/contact/
Hi was wondering if a replacement slide out weather flap that is mentioned in the video can be purchased. Reason being that i would like a second to offer the extra protection both along the side of the vehicle as well as at the rear to stop rain blowing in
G'day Grant,
They're not something we stock, nor do they appear to be available as a product to grab off 23Zero's website.
It doesn't mean they aren't available at all, but maybe something you need to contact them about as a spare parts/special order.
Jump over to their contact page here.
Does the weight of 19kg include the mounting brackets? How heavy are the three brackets?
G'day Richard,
Yep, 19kg is the total weight. The brackets and fixings, eg bolts & nuts, etc come in a separate box, the fixings kit weighs 5.9kg.
Hope that helps!
Hey there, I've got a prado 120 with the Toyota heavy duty roof racks - trying to figure out if the brackets are plug and play for this system or weather I'll need to buy anything extra?? Thanks
G'day Chris,
We dont deal in roof racks, so not familiar with what style you may or may not have, and not able to provide actual installation advice sorry.
The 5th product image shows the full mounting kit provided with the Falcon, all laid out clearly, so usually this is enough for people to ascertain straight-up compatibility. Most commonly people have channel mount roof bars, which require channel bolts, which can be found here.
If that's the case for you, you'd need 2 per bracket - so 6 in total.
Will this fit over a VW Multivan tailgate? To your knowledge are there any other 270 awnings that will, to compare/have options? We have a kitchen system out the back of the van and would like to get to the side door and back (and cook) in better coverage when it’s wet. Thanks
G'day Kay,
We don't know of anyone who has this set up specifically, however, whether or not it would cover your tailgate depends on your roof rack & how tall you have the awning mounted.
The only consideration would be the bottom swinging arm, you'd just need to mount it high enough to make sure it clears the rear doors.
G’Day, I’m looking at installing this onto a RhinoRack Pioneer Platform. Will I need to purchase anything additional outside of what is included to install it to my platform? If there is something additional to be purchased, do you sell it?
G'day Jon,
As far as we're aware you'll need to grab a few sets of the Channel Bolts.
We don't have any of the team with a platform rack and 270 awning here to be 100% sure, so we do encourage you to triple check with Rhino Rack before you go ahead.
Can you please advise if the supplied poles are 19mm or 22.2mm OD.
G'day Matthew,
Sorry for the delay in getting this one measured for you! The Falcon poles are 22mm into a 25mm, outer diameter.
Hope that helps.
Hi team, would this awning be suitable to be mounted on a roof flat platform that is only 1350mm long? I have a dual cab ute without canopy. Thank you.
G'day Mick,
This should suit ok if your roof platform is 1350, and you can mount the awning at the very ends of the platform. The maximum unsecured length of the backing plate should not exceed 600, so based on your measurement you should just have enough length to make it work. We'd recommend taking some careful measurements, and consulting with 23Zero if you're worried you might not have enough length to support the awning.
Does the awning bag let in water when the awning is packed up on the side of the vehicle
G'day Rob,
The bag doesn't come with a waterproof rating, but it is weather-resistant, and to this date we haven't had any feedback on water getting into the bag.
Hi, I've seen reviews of the Darche 270 saying there's problems with water getting in while stored in the bag, causing mould. Are you aware of any similar problems with the 23Zero? Cheers.
G'day Richo,
In the multiple years since we've started stocking the Darche 270 Awnings, we are only aware of 1 person who had the issues you described.
In this situation, it was on his car and exposed to weather 100% of the time, and not physically set up for at least 6 months, which is what it comes down to.
Much like a tent that's packed up in your shed and not opened for a long time, you can get mould and damage purely from condensation and changing temperatures.
Unless you've got something in storage in a regulated environment like a cupboard in your house, etc you should have a general maintenance plan to get it out every few weeks to be aired out and get some sun on it, and pack it away again once dry.
Also, making sure your awning is 100% dry before packing away is another big issue.
If you have a good practice of caring for your gear, you shouldnt have any issues.
Can you mount with two brackets or must you use 3 when attaching to roof racks?
G'day Sparks,
Whilst 23 Zero haven't explicitly stated that you cant, we would recommend against it, and suggest you use all 3.
Ultimately they supply all three brackets for a reason, it is recommended that no length greater than 600mm of the awning is unsecured. Using 2 brackets means this isn't possible.
Hi, I'm looking to mount the awning to my canopy. What's the maximum height it can be installed at, with the wall kit still working properly. Thanks.
G'day Martin,
The 23Zero Falcon awning leg poles extend to a maximum of 2.4m & the walls themselves are 2.25m high.
Hopefully that helps!
Can you please advise what is the width span once erect? Is it 2m or 2.5m? I’m interested to know especially on the second leg, where my fridge slide pulls out. I want to make sure the awning covers this.
G'day Michelle,
The arms on the awning are 2m long, so the width when opened is 2m. It might be worth having a look at our image that shows the schematic dimensions for a visual representation.
Hi, my frontrunner roofrack is only 1.5 m long, so I am wondering if this is enough to attach this awning, which is over 2 m long, and while you are at it if it would also be long enough for the slightly longer Darche 270 awning.
G'day Peter,
That shouldn't be a problem, the backing plate is 2.14m long, the recommendation is that you don't have more than 60cm overhang on either end (outside of the bracket). You should also have plenty of length to suit the Darche 270 awning.
Hi How big is the bag, has can see from reviews the Darche bag is tight and find the foxwing bag real tight Also is the 23Zero or Darche better for dual cab ute Thanks Neil
G'day Neil,
The 23Zero Falcon 270 bag/cover is fairly generous in size. Check out Ben's set up/pack down video, as he shows this in the video. The Darche 270 will fit back in the bag but there are some reviews that it can be a bit of a struggle for some. Oztent re-designed the Foxwing Bag about 3 years ago, so it is now a little larger and easier to pack away. Any of these options should suit a dual cab ute, however, be sure to check you'll have enough spread between your roof racks to mount it, you shouldn't leave more than 60cm of unsecured backing plate at either end.
Just wondering if this awning can be set up with just the 2 attached poles? Say for example in less windy conditions would it be ok to not use all the poles?
G'day Thomas,
The Falcon 270 is designed to be free-standing on set-up, but must be secured with all poles and ropes once it has been set up. An unexpected gust of wind will likely damage your awning and your car if the awning isn't correctly set up, so we wouldn't recommend it.
does this have the same light suppression technology coating like the Peregrine 270? No mention of it on the 23zero site either
G'day Matt,
We've had the team double-check this one for you and can confirm that the new Falcon 270 Awnings do in fact have a LST coating!
How does this compare to the Darche 270? ..you answered this question a year ago buy saying it was new to market and you did not have much experience with it..has this changed over the year? Is is cheaper but I don’t want a poorer quality product? Can you guide me?
G'day Jonathan,
We've now been selling 23Zero for a while now and so far they have been quite popular. They have a slightly different rear pole design, so they cover slightly less area, however, they are more suitable for wagon-style lift up rear doors. They have a slightly thinner 280gsm canvas, versus 320gsm for the Darche, with the 23Zero having light blocking fabric which will help keep you shaded and cool. Overall we're pretty happy with both brands.
Hi guys is there any spec sheets on the backing plate mounting? Specially looking at the measurement between the two channels. Also any recommended spacing between mounts and the ends of the awning? Mounting to a roof rack on a camp trailer with tool box on top. Thanks
Hi Shannon,
Sorry for the delayed response, 23Zero have come back and confirmed that they now have a bracket specification diagram on their website. Head over here and you'll be able to see all of the measurements and the bolt holes.
Hi are the mounting bolts able to be slid along the backing? Cheers
G'day Blake,
Yes there is an aluminium backing plate with channels for the bolts, so you can slide the mounts along the backing plate to suit your roof rack setup.
Can the walls be effectively put out as awnings.
G'day Mick,
Yes, you can use the walls as awning extensions to increase your undercover space.
Hi, just wondering are you able to supply the Falcon 270 awning conversion strap (180)? Ideal for when I have the roof top tent on which folds out the back. Cheers
G'day Michael,
At this stage we don't carry the conversion strap, but we should be able to get it from 23Zero. If you send us an email service@snowys.com.au then I'd be happy to follow this up as a special order for you.
Wanting to put it on a camper and the rear will be the kitchen area.
G'day Blake,
The Falcon 270 Awning does fold around the back of the vehicle as demonstrated in the images, however as you can see is a triangular section off the back, not a square.
You can check out Bens walk through videos to see how it works in real time with a vehicle.
If you are after something that has abit more coverage at the back and fully inclosed, check out the Darche Eclipse 270 Awning in conjunction with the "Wall 3".
Hi can you just confirm the packed length is 2140mm
G'day Jay,
I've just checked in with Ben from our video walkthorugh and he's confirmed that the packed length will be pretty consistent, the main variation will be with the packed diameter depending on how tightly you're rolling your awning away.
Hope that helps!
Can a falcon 270 awning be fitted to a canopy on a hilux dual cab or does it have to be fitted to the main cab?
G'day Errol,
You could fit the Falcon Awning to the rhino racks on the canopy of your ute. You'll just want to make sure the unsecured length of each side of the awning or the distance between the ends of the awning and the supplied brackets isn't greater than 600mm, so it will probably come down to working out spacing and where the back section swings around. Some people will mount to their canopy and vehicle depending on roof rack set up.
Can you please advise dimensions when on side of suv?
G'day Karen,
The Falcon 270 Awning is 214cm long, 15cm wide x 20cm high when it's all packed away and zipped shut.
Can this awning be used freestanding without the poles?
G'day Georgia,
In order to use this awning without damaging it or your car, it must be used with the poles.
It states 2 poles are included. Is there an option to get the other two matching poles so that you can use all 4 as per the pictures?
G'day Graeme,
Thanks for getting in touch, I've just double-checked with 23Zero to clarify, the Falcon 270 Awning is supplied with the two fixed pivoting poles and two separate stand alone awning poles, so you will be supplied with all poles required to have the four poles as per the images.
Is there any reason why all poles are not mounted permanently to the awning, and if not is it possible to do so.
G'day Andrew,
There are only two poles mounted into the awning due to the way that the awning folds away. This is fairly common across the different brands of 270 style awnings. I'm sure their product design team has looked for ways to mount all four, but haven't found a way to make it work without compromising the awing.
How do these compare to the Darche Eclipse 270? A significant weight saving between the two but same dimensions. Where is the Falcon 270 picking up the weight saving? Fittings and material thickness. Notice the falcon is a heavier canvas. Are the Falcon/Eclipse just as strong as each other. Keen on the lighter one for my setup.
G'day Ryan,
It's hard to give a direct comparison between these two models given they are made by different companies. Based purely on configuration alone the Falcon 270 is a little different at the rear, which would account for the slightly different weight (based on at least one less arm, and less canvas at the back). The aluminium extrusion may well be a slightly different size too, but without customer feedback, it's really hard to say how they compare (23Zero is very new to us).
