A functional family tent, with a little extra room, the Roman Explorer 9 Extended Dome Tent consists of the main tent with three internal rooms, one side vestibule for increased living space – ideal for large families.
The geodesic frame consists of Durawrap fibreglass poles and combines with a 3000mm waterhead fly for optimum protection when the weather turns sour. Extra-Large “D” doors and windows at each end provide ventilation in balmy weather and the extendable awnings create extra shade.
Multiple internal storage pockets, lockable storage compartments at each end and a skylight in the main room combine with handy features including power point access points and reflective strips on the floor at each entrance to complete a spacious and functional solution shelter for up to 9 people.
Hi there, are there internal walls to separate the rooms, or just one big space?
G'day Jo,
The Explorer 9 Extended Dome Tent has 3 separate rooms which are divided by internal walls with doors in them.
we go camping in dongara, wa for 4 weeks every april, and we sometimes get these condition. would this tent be ok?
G'day George,
Unfortunately, there are no tents really built to withstand consistent heavily adverse conditions, such as strong (30km ) winds and heavy rain. The reality is, and primary recommendation would be, if weather/winds are consistently getting that bad or worse, best thing to do is break camp and head home.
If you are experiencing short bursts of winds you need to ensure every single guy rope is out (it's a good idea to have more spare in your camp kit) and make sure they have anchored a minimum of 1.5m from the base of the tent. Alot of tents come with additional guy rope eyelets, so we recommend having as many guy ropes as your tent allows.
The other important thing is to have tracer springs, to allow just the right amount of movement, and to pull down any awning sections.
If you are needing a tent that is going to consistently be used in those conditions, and heading home is not an option, take a look at the Oztrail Canvas Cabin Tents, or the Black Wolf Turbo Canvas series as the only tents i would recommend sturdy enough to see you through that weather.
I presume "Covered end windows" in the description means that the mesh windows can be covered from inside to block cold air getting in on windy nights. What about the ventilation openings right beneath? Can they be closed?
G'day Amir,
As far as we know, the end windows have an external flap that zips and velcros shut, but internally there is just the mesh window. The ventilation ports below this are a dual-layer fabric with mesh externally and a solid fabric internally.
Hi-- Does this tent come with a loop or similar such hanging point in each room to hang a lantern or light from? Cheers
G'day Nathan,
I've just had a chat with the supplier and they informed me that there are no loops in the tent to hang a lantern from.
Hi-- Can this tent be opened up internally to make one or two rooms as opposed to the three with dividers it mentions in the description? Cheers.
G'day Nathan,
I've just called the supplier and the internal walls are stitched into the floor so unfortunately, you won't be able to open up the internal space to have two or three rooms, you'll have to use it with the 3 separate rooms.
Could you please suggest some easy to set up tents with enough space for us all.
G'day Sabine,
You should find that you'll be able to set up the Roman Explorer 9 Extended Dome Tent with just yourself and the boys. This tent will give you plenty of room for sleeping as well as indoor activities if the weather is bad. It might be best to give us a call on 1300 914 007 and we can have a chat to identify what your main needs are so we can suggest a range of options.
Hi, Cant decide between the Roman Explorer vs the Coleman Chalet 9... We note that Coleman is slightly bigger but not too fussed about that. Also note the Roman has a extended Dome which is a plus for us. The thing that concerns us is the fact that not much known about the Roman brand and few reviews compared to the popular Coleman... Can you tell us more about the Roman 9 and why are they not as popular as the Coleman? Have any of your customers ever had any concerns re the Roman 9 extended Dome tent? Can any of the windows open from the inside? Thanks Heaps, Kerryn
G'day Kerryn,
Coleman has been a long-standing company in the Australian camping market and has a great reputation, this is probably one of the main reasons they are so popular. There's definitely nothing wrong Roman, they are a brand that's owned by Companion, a long-standing, more recognisable brand. We've not had any concerns coming back to us about the Roman Explorer 9 Extended Dome Tent at all. The windows on the Roman can only be opened and closed from the outside, they don't have internal privacy screens.
How long does it take to set up the tent? We've been looking at instant up tents as we have a young family but this layout suits us best.
G'day Chris,
I'd suggest that the Roman Explorer 9 Extended Dome Tent would probably take about half an hour to set up if you had someone to help you with a few of the more difficult parts with the poles.
does the inner tent have mesh in the sleeping areas
G'day Neil,
There are small mesh windows in each of the bedrooms on the Roman Explorer 9 Extended Dome Tent but the curtains in these rooms are solid.
what is the warranty for the explorer 9 ext ?
G'day Neil,
The Roman Explorer 9 Extended Dome Tent comes with a 1-year warranty.
Is there a zipper from inside to get to the fly for opening the windows? Or it must be done outside only?
G'day Adam,
With the Roman Explorer 9 Extended Dome Tent, any window that is built into the fly will need to be opened from the outside.
I can't tell by the picture. Thank you :)
Can this tent be pitched like the Explorer 9 without the extension? There may be times when the extension is not needed or there isn't room.
