This shelter is designed for occassional recreational camping use. It is designed to be set up for a few days/week at a time while camping. Extended periods would include setting it up as a permanent shelter over a kids pool for a month in summer etc.

These are primarily a sun shelter, with only 450mm water head rating. This means that a column of 450mls of water can be held against this fabric before it starts to leak. It may cover you it light or sporadic showers, but I wouldn't be relying on it for anything more than that. I also has 4 open sides, even with the walls up it wont be sealed, so any rain will likely come through there.

We have had one of these (bought from Snowys) for over 5 years and used it perhaps a dozen times for car camping trips over multiple nights (longest was probably 4 nights). We’ve had torrential rain on some of those trips and the shelter has been waterproof and reliable. The side wall is really useful and we are thinking of buying a second for better protection when it is windy and the rain would otherwise come in from the side. The oztrail mesh flooring (also sold by Snowys) really helps in the wet as well.

The Event Shelters ultimately rely on the pegs and guy ropes, however, you may be able to use sandbags or water pods on each leg to help weigh it down. Unfortunately there is no solution by Coleman made specifically for the Event Shelters, but most people manage a DIY solution of some kind. You'll also need to find an alternative for the guys ropes, as they'll need to be anchored aswell.

Are the steel poles the same in the deluxe and the non deluxe model?1 answer
Unfortunately we left it inthe bag wet and the canopy of the non delux model is now mouldy. just wondering if the cover is the only difference and if that accounts for the additional weight. we found the non deluxe model great, a small tear after 3 years and one of the steel poles split, but was all still useable until this mould incident.

The Event 14 and Event 14 Deluxe use the exact same poles, the canopy is different, and the bag is slightly different. Aside from that, they're the same, so you could grab a replacement canopy, or a whole new unit, depending on your pole condition.

I have seen here that the deluxe comes with a wheeled carry bag, but on tentworld it was only in a carry bag. I just want to be sure that it can be wheeled before buying it.

The Event 14 are really designed just as a sun shelter, so if you're wanting something that will also keep you dry then the Outdoor Connection Breakaway 450 or the Zempire Aerobase 4 provide a similar-sized shade area, but also have a waterhead rating of 2000mm, which should keep you dry in wet weather.

The Event 14 will generally fare a little better in windy conditions, however just be sure to secure the shelter well, and secure all of the guy ropes well to ensure your shelter doesn't get damaged by the wind.

What type of lighting is best suited for the deluxe sun shelter? Are there any points for hanging lights? I'd like to purchase the lighting before I first assemble the shelter. A center loop or hook would be great, but I can't see any from the pictures.

The Event 14 doesn't have any specific hanging loops however the frame is exposed internally, so you could loop some cord over the pole, or central hub to hang a lantern from fairly easily. 12V Strip lights are also fairly popular in these shelters too, with some options having magnetic backing, or velcro loops to attach to the frame.

Coleman has not provided a wind rating for the Event 14 Deluxe Sun Shelter. We'd advise you ensure the shelter is pegged down with all guy ropes and if you find the weather is becoming noticeably windier, take the shelter down to avoid any potential damage.

How tight should the canopy be?1 answer
Hi I’ve just bought this and done a test setup before we head away. Went up fine but the canopy seems quite tight across the frame. The hooks at the corners are at full extension and still very tight and some of the Velcro ties are pulling quite tight. I tried adjusting the shape and position of the frame but couldn’t seem to get it much looser. Any tips or is this just how it should be? Thanks.

The canopy on the Event 14 shelter will be pretty snug to reduce any chance of flapping. As long as it fits and isn't causing damage to the canopy then it should be fine.

Camping with friends, the traditional gazebos end up being kitchens with enough height to allow stoves etc around the edges. Am looking for a lighter less cumbersome option but how would these shelters cope with a stove or weber q on a table?

You should be just fine to cook under a Coleman Event 14. Despite the whole thing being curved the walls actually stand up quite straight. Like with any gazebo, be careful and make sure the stove isn't anywhere it might touch the walls etc. To get a better idea of the space you'll have under the shelter watch our video (click here) with staff member Ben running through all the features.

Hi there, we are wanting to erect this over a small above ground pool for the summer. It is in quite a windy area. Have tried many other cheaper shelters that have poles and they don't withstand the weather. What do you think about the Deluxe shelter for that use? Or do you recommend something else? thanks

The Event 14 Deluxe Sun Shelter is a good option to put up over the pool, however, these are not designed to be used as a permanent structure so if it is left up over the summer then the canopy will likely deteriorate fairly quickly.

Event 14 + Sundome 6P1 answer
Im thinking of buying event 14 Delux Coleman sundome ,6p. I want to pitch the dome probably a third of the way into the shelter, just so the front part of the dome is sheltered. My question is will it fit under?....can't find the height at entry to the shelter or for the sundome 6p. Anyway you can check?

Very good question! The entry into the Event 14 is between 175-185cm (depending on the surface) and the height of the Sundome is around 180cm (at the peak). To answer your question, it should fit but only because you're not wanting to have the entire tent under

The best ground cover I can recommend for the Coleman Event 14 Deluxe Sun Shelter would be an OZtrail Ultramesh Tarp. Whilst there isn't a size that will fit perfectly, I'd recommend either getting two of the 8 x 16 ft tarps, which will cover all the space (plus a bit) or one 12 x 16 ft tarp, which will cover all but a strip of about 60cm under the shelter.

The Coleman Event 14 Deluxe Sun Shelter doesn't have a side tent that's designed to go with it, no. The Oztrail Deluxe Gazebo does have a compatible tent if that design interests you at all.

hi there- I have a few little rips (from very big wind gusts!) in the canopy. Before I rip out the gaffer tape- can you recommend a simple/ neater repair method please- rips are 50mm or so straight tears in the corners

Unfortunately, I don't have a way to physically test this in store and we've never had this query before. However, from reading all dimensions, it looks possible. The only concern I have is the angle of the four legs of the Event 14 Sun Shelter and whether they slope sharply which will bring them in contact with the tent.

just wondering how durable given the 150denier fabric.. do you receive complaints on this falling apart after some basic sun use? Colemans website doesnt suggest his is very wet weather proof.. what is your view on this?

We've had some excellent feedback on the quality of the shelter, which you can check out in the reviews tab if you like.
150D is a lighter weight material, but as the material is UPF50 rated, sun damage should not be an issue with this shelter.
This shelter has a 450mm waterhead rating so we would say that it would stand up to a light shower, but it's not specifically designed for use in heavy rain.

I've had a look at the Coleman pricelist and it looks like they only make the one option in sunwalls for the Event 14 series. The wall that comes with the Event 14 Deluxe is the same standard 75d wall.

We haven't heard of anyone doing this, but from looking at the frame/poles of this shelter it wouldn't be as simple as switching out the poles for heavier ones as the poles would need to be the same diameter to fit so it would have to be a custom job as far as we understand it.
Keep in mind that it would also affect the warranty and also perhaps the integrity of the structure, so that's something to think about before you make your decision.

Hi, just wondering if can tell me the key difference between this deluxe version and the normal Coleman Event 14 sun shelter. Hi Sonja, the only difference is exactly what you’ve found – and that’s in the quality of the material. The deluxe has 150 denier which is double the weight of the regular (75 denier), so if you’re going to use the shelter every other week then I’d get the deluxe but if you’re only going to bring it out once or twice a year then the regular is probably more suitable for you.

We have a normal event 14 that we have had for around 3 years. Are replaceable covers available or do we have to buy a whole new shelter as ours is starting to develop holes? I would like to replace with the heavier duty cover rather then the lighter one for more water proofness as we do get water leak through the other one. Seems pointless replacing the whole shelter when the frame is still in top condition

I've used mine about 3 times now and had it for about a month. The last time it was raining for a day or so. I put it up again when I got home the next day to dry out and when I was packing up noticed that the poles were starting to get rusty on the ends, and the hooks attached to the material also had some minor signs of rust. I know it's not a rain shelter, but I think it's reasonable that outdoor gear is going to get wet sometimes. Is it usual to have a little surface rust like this?

G'day Nathan - A little surface rust may occur if the coating of the metal bits is scuffed and/or if the shelter is damp in storage. If you pack it away wet, do unbundle and dry it out as soon as possible. I don't have this detail sorry David, nor do I have one pitched in the shop to check for you at the moment. We have had them on display previously though, so I asked around our sales team to see if they could remember how high the arch was. Conclusion was that those of us that are just over 180 cm remember having to duck slightly to get under the shelter, so it's safe to assume that the height in the middle of the arch is around 180 cm. I hope this is enough information for you.

The pegs are 23 cm Andrew, and about 5 cm diameter. You can purchase larger pegs from our website, pegs are located under the 'Tents & Shelters' menu, the feet will accommodate pegs up to 9 mm diameter.

Hot under canopy compared to tarp?1 answer
Had older Coleman Event 14 but it leaked along seams and it was too hot under it so quickly replaced it with Oztrail Ultrarig Tarp which was significantly cooler to sit under but its takes too long to set up. Is the new Event 14 150D canopy cooler to sit underneath than the older version? How does it compare to the Oztrail Ultrarig Tarps? Does it still leak along the seams?

It shouldn't leak Ben, but it will be comparable in terms of heat to the older canopy you are referring to. The Ultra-Rig tarps, will block out more light than the Event 14 canopy, this is probably where you are noticing the difference in heat underneath the shelter.
