The Cold Mountain is known among us outdoorsy types as being one of the biggest, and most comfortable bags on the market. For those of you out there that prefer the soft feel of canvas, with a bit of extra room to move - this bag will keep you comfy and warm no matter what the conditions are.
With a flannel inner lining, and a dual layer filling – you’ll be toasty warm even in conditions up to -5 degrees. With dual zips, you can join compatible bags together, and if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t like feeling confined – this bag can be unzipped to create a large doona, so you’ll feel right at home. If you can’t bear to be parted with your phone or device even when you sleep, the good news is that you can keep it in the Cold Mountain’s internal pocket that has a Velcro strip to stop it falling out in the night.
The drawcord hood can be cinched in to keep your head warm, and the flannel lining feels almost like your quilt at home while keeping you snug as you drift off to sleep. The great news about the Canvas Cold Mountain is that it just rolls up like a swag into its carry bag, ready for you to throw it in the back of car lickedy split.
Deciding between this and the Oztrail Drover -7. I like the extra warmth and removable liner on the Oztrail, but wondering if the Darche is better quality and would be similar temp if I added fleece liner? Ideally I'd love a -5 to -10 bag with dual zip, flannelette inner and removable liner. At least 100W. What would you recommend? Thanks!
Kath - Orange, NSW(7 months ago)
G'day Kath,
These are some great options! Darche would be a slightly better quality sleeping bag and honestly, the Oztrail is pretty close in quality too.
The Drover would be warmer than the Darche as it has the fleece liner and is a bit thicker. If you did add a fleece liner to the Darche you would get a similar temp rating, the average fleece liner should take it to around a comfort rating of -5 although this isn't always exact. They both have a Cotton/Flannel Lining while the Drover includes the extra fleece lining that zips in and both have foot zips.
I would recommend both of these bags, the Darche would be great and you'd get the extra warmth by adding a liner, while the Oztrail already includes everything you need.

Hood location if joining1 answer
Can you Join two bags with hoods in correct position? My last bags when joined had one of the hoods laying upside down.
Troy - Killcare Heights, NSW (1 year ago)
G'day Troy,
The Darche Cold Mountain bags are dual zipper, so you can join them side by side in their normal lay out - meaning the hoods both stay at the back.

Hood1 answer
Can the hood be removed, like the new Darche Eco 1100?
Bec - Perth, WA (1 year ago)
G'day Bec,
No, it can't. The hood on the Cold Mountain sleeping bag range is all one piece with the bag. Hope that helps.

Pack up inside AD1100?1 answer
Hey Guys - does this bag fit inside the AD1100 and will the swag fit back into the swag bag with this inside (and a pillow)?
James - Perth, WA (3 years ago)
G'day James,
The 1100 sleeping bag sizes are designed to be used with the 1100 wide swags, so you won't have a problem there. In terms of wether or not it would fit back in the swag bag all rolled up together, we can't say for sure sorry as we havent tried it out. I'd say to try with a doona or chunky quilt that you have at home already and see if that works. The sleeping bag isnt going to be more bulky than standard bedding, so if you know that fits, its a fair bet the sleeping bag will aswell.

Carry Bag1 answer
I was wondering if the carry bag for this sleeping bag is waterproof? I often carry my sleeping bags on the rear of a motorcycle and wondered whether I will need a separate dry-bag?
Paul - Southport, QLD(3 years ago)
G'day Paul,
No, its not unfortunatey. The Caribee Wet Roll 50L is a popular alternative, or even the Sea to Summit Big River Dry Sack in the 65L version if you want to have more of a traditional sleeping bag stuff sack style bag.

2 blankets1 answer
I see the bag has zippers on both sides and the foot. Can the bag be completely unzipped so you get two blankets?
Mike - Darling Point(5 years ago)
G'day Mike,
What a great idea! I just checked our display model and yes, you can fully unzip to create two blankets or quilts. One will be slightly longer though due to the hood.

Is the flannel inside removable?1 answer
Just wanted to know whether you can remove the liner of the bag if it's too warm and use as a summer bag?
Mile - Darling Point(5 years ago)
G'day Mile,
The flannel lining is completely sewn in on the Darche Cold Mountain Canvas Sleeping Bags and is not removable. The Oztent Rivergum Extra Large Sleeping Bag and the Coleman Pilbara C-5 Sleeping Bag both have removable linings for versatility. You can unzip the Darche Cold Mountain Canvas Sleeping Bags down either side and along the bottom to create a quilt for those warmer nights.

Washing1 answer
Because the bag is canvas can it be washed in a washing machine?
Shaun - Spring Gully(5 years ago)
G'day Shaun,
According to the instructions provided by Darche, the Cold Mountain 1100 Canvas should be hand washed separately in warm water using mild detergent.

Join together?1 answer
Will two of these zip together? e.g. 900 1100
Justin - Orange(5 years ago)
G'day Justin,
Yes, you can zip together two of the Cold Mountain Canvas bags in two different widths, however you won't be able to zip a canvas model to a polyester model.

How does this Darche sleeping bag compare to the Oztent rivergum XL 1 answer
In quality and comfort as I will manly be using it in Sydney all year round
Lockie - Sydney (6 years ago)
G'day Lockie,
The Cold Mountain Canvas 1100 is a great option, as is the Rivergum XL. Both bags have the same temperature range, with the Cold Mountain being a little wider. We'd be confident that you'd be happy with the comfort and quality of both bags.

Internal girth1 answer
The external dimensions are listed as 110cm wide, yet the internal girth is 200cm wide. Is that correct?
John - Craigmore(6 years ago)
G'day John,
Thanks for getting in touch, the internal girth of the Cold Mountain 1100 is correct at 200cm. There is some degree of flexibility based on the fabric, but the listed girth is the full internal circumference of the bag.

Comparison1 answer
How does this bag compare to the “Oztrail Cotton Canvas jumbo†apart from sizing? I’m planning on camping in the Victorian highlands in April which can get to -1...any other options for around the same cost?
Nermin - Brisbane(6 years ago)
G'day Nermin,
The Oztrail Cotton Canvas Jumbo and the Darche Cold Mountain Canvas 1100 are pretty similar in terms of comfort rating and performance. The Darche does have a slightly heavier canvas outer fabric and both have nice, soft synthetic flannel liners that are easy to clean and quick drying. In general, the Darche does have a higher quality finish. The other bag you might be interested in looking at is the Oztent Rivergum XL.

Waterproof1 answer
Is this waterproof enough to be ok on a King Goanna strecher under a vehicle awning?
Karl Webb - FADDEN(6 years ago)
G'day Karl,
I wouldn't want to say these are totally waterproof as no sleeping bag really is. The canvas is pretty good at keeping a bit of moisture off the fill inside the bag though, much better than the outer on a standard sleeping bag. You'd be fine to sleep out under your awning as long as the rain wasn't coming in too hard.

Fit on a King Goanna Stretcher1 answer
Hi would this fit on a King Goanna strecher ok?
Or would I be better with the 900 size bag?
Karl Webb - FADDEN(6 years ago)
G'day Karl,
The King Goanna Stretcher is only 800mm wide, so you'll be able to use the 1100mm wide Cold Mountain sleeping bag but you won't get the full advantage of the width of the bag. I'd suggest looking at the 900mm wide sleeping bag, or if you really want the wider sleeping bag look at the Outdoor Connection Sundowner Titan Camp Stretcher which is 1020mm wide.

Length of bag?1 answer
You mention in the description that the bag is 235cm long - am I correct in thinking this is the measurement from foot to top of hood and not the length of the main bag - ie up to the main drawstring at chin level?
David - Mornington Vic(6 years ago)
G'day David,
You're spot on mate, the 235cm measurement is from the foot to the very top of the hood. The measurement from the foot to the drawstring is approximately 185cm.

Machine washable safe?1 answer
Hi, Are the canvas sleeping bags safe to put in the washing machine? Just wondering as It says hand wash only on Darches official website. Thanks
Eric - Darwin(7 years ago)
G'day Eric,
The Darche Cold Mountain 1100 Canvas should be hand washed separately in warm water using mild detergent according to the care instructions Darche provide.

Can the sleeping bag open to use as a doona 1 answer
I have seen both sides unzip, but does the bottom also unzip to allow use as a double width doona?
Grant - halls head(7 years ago)
G'day Grant,
You most certainly can unzip your Darche Cold Mountain Canvas 1100 all the way to create a doona!
