Comparing the Cd2 to the Eb21 answer
Thanks for your previous response. Comparing the Cd2 to the Eb2 in the quilt range there is a fair price difference ($180) but not much difference in the weight (60g). I am right in assuming the dollar difference comes down to better quality feathers and Nylon being used? To reach the 2 degree comfort temperature with both quilts would you need to use a Sea to Summit “XT extreme insulated sleeping map” or would the “ultralight insulated sleeping map” be okay?. I’m guessing to reach the lower functional limits for both quilts you’d need to use the XT.

G'day Mark,
The difference in price is largely due to the quality of the down between quilts & the amount that has to be used to achieve the same insulation. The Eb2 has a higher grade down which lofts better, and therefore insulates better, gram for gram. Realistically quilts are not able to be EN tested for a proper warmth rating like a sleeping bag, so the comfort ratings are chosen based on the performance of sleeping bags with the same or similar grade & weight down.
The higher the R-Value of the mat, the more the mat will insulate you from losing body heat through the ground. If you are concerned about sleeping cold, the higher the R-Value of your sleeping mat, the better. There's a whole range of other factors to consider, including your physical body composition, the ambient temps, how much you've eaten, how much physical activity you've done during the day.
We'd recommend listening to our podcast on Sleep Systems with Sea to Summit to get more info on how to sleep warm & get the most out of your gear.

Liner1 answer
Any commment on the type of inner liner would be most appropriate to use with quilt?
Mark Farrugia - Bellarine, VIC (2 years ago)
G'day Mark,
There's no real difference in liner selection between a quilt and a sleeping bag. You'd just choose one based on your requirements & personal preference for materials and comfort. The primary purpose of a liner is to protect your quilt or sleeping bag from needing to be frequently washed, if your requirements are additional warmth, you'd just choose one with greater thermal properties.

Baffles1 answer
Hello is this stitch through baffles or does it use box baffles to hold that down in the sections
Wayne - Sydney, NSW(2 years ago)
G'day Wayne,
The Cinder 1 quilt is stitched through, whereas this Cinder 2 has boxed baffles. Hope that helps!

Shape of quilt1 answer
Will this fit rectangular sleeping mats? Will it fit the Ether Light XT Extreme in the regular wide size?
Nick - Croydon, VIC(2 years ago)
G'day Nick,
Sea to Summit have advised that whilst these are better suited to the tapered mats, they will still work with the rectangular mats. Hope that helps!
