best on the market

I needed a solid, sturdy, reliable, and water proof bag for travelling to work on offshore platforms. Spent a lot of time researching before making this purchase. I had a look at all the available brands in person, too, including North Face, Mountain Designs, the one sold by Anaconda, and a couple of others from those hiking/mountaineering shops (about 5 in total). This one had all features plus more. The second contender was North Face, but unfortunately the straps were not detachable with a clip, you had to feed it through the buckle. Also Tatonka was the only one with a padded base (great for laptops).

Used it a couple of times so far and it is great. The bags get a fair flogging on the helicopter and are sometimes left on the helipad even if it’s raining. The quality is superb, very tough, I am sure I will get years of use out of it. You can also see that attention to detail was put in with lots of little features to make the bag stand out from the rest. (one example, an internal lip around the main zip compartment which stops your clothes catching in the zip.)

The only thing I would recommend is getting a single shoulder strap from another bag to put on this as it doesn’t come with it. That way you can tuck the backpack straps into the pocket and only use the single strap. Hopefully Tatonka will make this a standard with new designs.

All in all, a fantastic bag, very comfortable to wear on your back. Extremely good quality and well built. Highly recommended.

Appears solid and dependable

Note - I haven't used this bag yet. I bought it as a carry-on bag and to go on the back of a hired motorcycle in Morocco, so liked the fact that it was made of solid material and claimed to be waterproof (ie. dustproof). It seems very robust and well made, with plenty of places to tie it down with occy straps. The small inside pockets will be useful. The Snowys price was far better than any other I could find anywhere.
