If your regular lighter doesn’t cut it, then consider adding the Piezo Igniter from MSR to your stash.

The Piezo Igniter will reliably light most canister stoves, at the push of a button. The element inside this lighter is protected by the tube which makes it more reliable than stove mounted igniters. The tube will also collect a little bit of gas around the element to help it along.

Constructed from ABS plastic and steel, this compact lighter only weighs a measly 10g, so it makes for a welcome addition to your lightweight kitchen set up.

  • Protected element for reliability
  • Tube collects gas around the element to aid ignition
  • Compatible with most canister stove (not radiant burners)
  • Minimal weight, and compact design

Works a treat

Simple to use and does what it should. Small and easy to pack.

Works well

This works very well to light my gas stove, although a friend struggled to light her stove with it.
The colour is not the same as in the picture, which is a shame. The colour I received is a dull dark red and is a lot more likely to be misplaced or lost when camping. The one in the picture also shows some black cord (hand loop?), and I would also have liked this as it would have again it would have contributed to it being less easy to loose.
Overall, a good product that I am satisfied with.

good item

Great item. I use mine for lighting gas camp stoves. My son uses his for safe starting gas burners in the science lab with no flame required.

can these light alcohol burners?1 answer

i know these are used for gas canister stoves - but can they also be used to light alcohol based stoves as well e.g. Trangia burners??

G'day Ruth,

While none of us have tried to light an alcohol burner with a MSR Piezo Igniter, we doubt that it would be capable of doing so as it only produces a tiny spark for lighting gas. We recommend sticking to matches or a lighter.
