Even when there are blue skies ahead, it always pays to have some Waterproof Matches from Coghlan’s ready to go in an emergency.
The great thing about these safety matches is that they can’t be accidentally lit, which will give you that peace of mind when they’re with the rest of your gear. The striker surface is waterproof, so you’ll be able to light a match when conditions are not ideal.
With four boxes included, each with 40 matches, you’ll have plenty of matches for all kind of use whether you’re out camping, fishing or hunting.
I notice normal matches seem to deteriorate in a fairly short period of time just with normal storage in a cupboard prior to a hike making them difficult to use when needed. Are you able to tell me if these would be similar?
G'day Jannine,
It's not something we can comment on, unfortunately, as this can only be known with time and personal experience.
Common sense tells me that the deterioration of normal matches over time is due to moisture content in the air, and this usually affects the match head itself.
As these have a waterproof coating, I'd suggest they'd be more resistant to deteriorating.
I just had to bail out on a hike because I couldn't get an old pack of these matches to light in wet, snowy weather. So only use fresh ones and make sure you test them before you go. Had I tested these I would have known they were no good.
