Review revisited.

Ok after spending at least 9 nights over 2 trips on this stretcher I have to say it caused me bad lower back problems and I can usually sleep on the floor! I think it needs a serious mattress thickness if more than one night is going to slept on it. Last trip it made my side and arm go numb during each night even with a self inflating mattress and spare sleeping bag on top, I actually came home much worse than I left. I am going back to an inflatable mattress and no point in having both unless you really need the storage space underneath. Its probably fine if you can sleep on your back all night.

I'm sorry to hear that, Den. Most stretchers say padded but this is very minimal. Most people, who want to get off the ground with a stretcher, add a plush mat - such as the Zempire Monstamat or an Oztrail Leisure Mat. While it's a bit more money, you'll be sure to have a comfy nights sleep.

I hope this helps. Laine :)

Mixed Results

Well I am surprised you didn’t hear me cursing this stretcher all the way down the Oodnadatta Track and right through the Flinders Ranges. We have just finished 2.5 weeks on the road and this stretcher was the most tedious bit of kit to set up. End bars are really hard to click into place. Fabric seems too short (on both of the ones we bought) On the bright side, other reviews are correct- strong legs, quick to set up, easy to pack under camper trailer. Will not be using them for future trips, as they hurt my hands and wrist to set up end sections.

Response from Snowys Jul 18 2018

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that Nina... you're right, out of the factory the material is so taut it feels short. Over time, with use, the fabric will soften and become much easier to set up.

This has given me an idea though... we need a video on setting this up. Hopefully, we can come up with a trick or two to make it easier for the first few times.

I hope you had a lovely trip! Laine :)

Solid construction

Quick service from snowys as usual.
after un boxing and taking out of the bag I notice the material had mould spots all over the edges , the more expensive items as Oztent should at a minimum have moisture control baggies place inside which is the norm these days even with cheap products.
It was definitely mould as the bag itself had no residue or powder/dust inside.

Anyway I sprayed it with mould stop set it up which was quite easy and quick, laid on it to test it and I fell asleep lol.
There were no problems fitting the final end bar as others have mentioned, it held my 95kg easily,I also have broard shoulders and this beds small width still works well.
It has some front to back movement when set up but it doesnt move once on it even when you try to rock it..

Happy with the product but Oztent need to get their act together (re mould) if they want to keep a good name, you cant expect a camping shop to open every product before selling/dispatching it.

Quality product

Easy to setup and pack away. With a thin mattress, sleeping bag and a pillow you'd be as comfy as could be expected when camping.

Hi There, Is it recommended to place a mattress on top of this stretcher when sleeping? If so, could you recommend one from your site please?

- Blacktown(1 month ago)

G'day Adam,

You don't need to use a mattress on the Oztent Goanna Stretcher, but you'll find it will add both comfort and much better insulation from the cold air underneath. A couple of suggestions that would fit well would be the Oztrail Camp Mat, the Zempire Monstamat Single Camp Mat and the Sea to Sumit DLX SI Sleeping Mat RW

Would zempire single megamat be suitable for this stretcher?1 answer

Would zempire single megamat be suitable for this stretcher? Thanks

- Albany WA(4 months ago)

G'day Trent,

The Zempire Single Megamat will be a little too wide and long for the Oztent Gonna Stretcher. You'd be best suited with the Oztent King Goanna Stretcher.

Can you take the material off to wash?1 answer

How would you recommend cleaning the stretcher? Thanks

- Newcastle(10 months ago)

G'day Anna,

As a 27-year-old bloke, I am definitely no expert on the matter of cleanliness! So, I've asked our customer service ninja and mum of 3, Susie. for some help! She suggested that to clean your Oztent Goanna Stretcher, you'd be on to a winner to get yourself some Martha Gardner Woold Mix and to scrub it into your material. Then simply rinse your stretcher bed off and allow it to dry before packing away. Unfortunately, the material doesn't come off of the frame of the bed.

Will this fit in my RV2?1 answer

The catalogue only mentions it fitting RV3 and up oztents.

- Merimbula(11 months ago)

G'day Laura,

The Oztent Goanna Stretcher is only 190L x 66W x 40H cm so it will easily fit inside the Oztent RV2 which has a space allowance of 200L x 200W cm.

Can you feel the middle cross bar when lying on it1 answer

I gather there is a support bar where the centre legs are.

- Perth(1 year ago)

Hi Celia,

The cross leg in the middle of the frame doesn't actually have a support bar across, so you won't feel anything except for the padded stretcher Celia.

Does a darche 900 mat fit on this stretcher1 answer

will the darche 900 mat fit on this stretcher? is this stretcher quick and easy to set up or isn't there an easier one? also is there a stretcher that the exped double will fit on?

- wollongong(1 year ago)

Hi Emma,

After comparing the specs, it seems that the Darche 900 mat is a little too long and wide for the Goanna stretcher (which measures 190L x 66W x 40H cm) so it will overhang about 24cm - so it might not be the best option for this stretcher.

The Goanna stretcher is quite easy to use as it just unfolds – the only thing you have to do is secure the end bars to complete the set up.

And as for the Exped Megamat Duo, this mat will fit best on the Oztrail Easy Fold Queen Mat with a bit of room on the side as that's our widest stretcher.

queen stretcher1 answer

hi do oztent make a queen size stretcher thanks

- rainbow beach qld(2 years ago)

Unfortunately they don't Peter. We do have a couple of double stretchers in our range, have a look at the Oztrail Easy Fold Queen Stretcher or the Zempire Twin Speedy Stretcher Bed.

- Snowys(2 years ago)

Hi Guys I am looking for a stretcher to go across my enclosed Trailer the Maximum length i can go is 190cm is there any other options as a wider stretcher would be preferable1 answer

Looking for a wider option but maximum length of 190 cm please advise if you have anything that you would recommend

- Dandenong Victoria(2 years ago)

G'day Darren,

From having a look at our entire range in store and comparing the dimensions it seems that the Coleman Big Sky Bed is the only bed that's under 190cm that's also wider than the Goanna stretcher at 68cm.

It also comes with it's own mattress which is a bit of a bonus, which is actually quite comfy from trying it in store.

RV31 answer

Hi, Does this stretcher fit front to back in a RV3 tent?

- PERTH, WA(2 years ago)

Hi Mias, the dimensions of the RV3 are 2m long x 2.4m wide and the Gecko Stretcher is 190cm long so it should just squeeze in front to back in the RV3.

- Snowys(2 years ago)

Would this be suited as child's stretcher?1 answer

- BAULKHAM HILLS, NSW(2 years ago)

G'day Lisa, the Oztent Goanna Stretcher is a great option for kids because it is a little bit narrower and shorter than your average stretcher, and it leaves a bit of extra room for growth spurts.

stretcher beds size for jv tent1 answer

would these fit in the jv signature series tent (2) or is the tent just too small for stretcher beds?

- WAHGUNYAH, VIC(3 years ago)
You may fit one Rick, but the sloping nature of the tent restricts two stretchers from fitting. In reality you need to be looking at an RV4 or preferably an RV5 to comfortably fit two stretcher beds into. That being said, the front room of the JV series can be enclosed, and there is plenty of space if you take this area into account also.

is there a support bar down middle of stretcher?1 answer

Do you have more photos of the gecko and goanna stretcher. A photo of the underneath of the stretcher would be appreciated too.

- OXENFORD, QLD(4 years ago)
Hi Julie, a support bar down the middle of either stretchers is not required. These are one of the strongest stretcher designs on the market with a 150kg weight rating and a 5 year warranty. The underside doesn't reveal anything you can't see from the top. (Steel frame around the edges and heavy duty poly-fabric in the middle) The Oztent stretchers have a layer of foam built into the fabric which offers extra comfort and insulation. Only other queen size stretcher designs require middle supports. (For example the Oztrail Queen http://www.snowys.com.au/Sleeping-Gear/Stretchers-and-Beds/Easy-Fold-Stretcher-Queen.aspx?c=3&sc=22&id=5109
