Ok after spending at least 9 nights over 2 trips on this stretcher I have to say it caused me bad lower back problems and I can usually sleep on the floor! I think it needs a serious mattress thickness if more than one night is going to slept on it. Last trip it made my side and arm go numb during each night even with a self inflating mattress and spare sleeping bag on top, I actually came home much worse than I left. I am going back to an inflatable mattress and no point in having both unless you really need the storage space underneath. Its probably fine if you can sleep on your back all night.
I'm sorry to hear that, Den. Most stretchers say padded but this is very minimal. Most people, who want to get off the ground with a stretcher, add a plush mat - such as the Zempire Monstamat or an Oztrail Leisure Mat. While it's a bit more money, you'll be sure to have a comfy nights sleep.
I hope this helps. Laine :)
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that Nina... you're right, out of the factory the material is so taut it feels short. Over time, with use, the fabric will soften and become much easier to set up.
This has given me an idea though... we need a video on setting this up. Hopefully, we can come up with a trick or two to make it easier for the first few times.
I hope you had a lovely trip! Laine :)
Quick service from snowys as usual.
after un boxing and taking out of the bag I notice the material had mould spots all over the edges , the more expensive items as Oztent should at a minimum have moisture control baggies place inside which is the norm these days even with cheap products.
It was definitely mould as the bag itself had no residue or powder/dust inside.
Anyway I sprayed it with mould stop set it up which was quite easy and quick, laid on it to test it and I fell asleep lol.
There were no problems fitting the final end bar as others have mentioned, it held my 95kg easily,I also have broard shoulders and this beds small width still works well.
It has some front to back movement when set up but it doesnt move once on it even when you try to rock it..
Happy with the product but Oztent need to get their act together (re mould) if they want to keep a good name, you cant expect a camping shop to open every product before selling/dispatching it.
So easy to set up, very solid and comfortable with a egg shell matress. Fairly heavy though.
I have found this very easy to use. My kids can do most of the assembly. Did take me a bit to get it back in the bag first time now its a snap.
Weight is a bit much but then again, it is a strong cot. Happy camper
Great stretcher good length very good back support, comfortable the only complaint I have is that it is not wide enough for a 95kg adult
Good service only concern is the weight
No complaints from management, and was pretty good for set up and take down
Easy to setup and pack away. With a thin mattress, sleeping bag and a pillow you'd be as comfy as could be expected when camping.
Hi There, Is it recommended to place a mattress on top of this stretcher when sleeping? If so, could you recommend one from your site please?
You don't need to use a mattress on the Oztent Goanna Stretcher, but you'll find it will add both comfort and much better insulation from the cold air underneath. A couple of suggestions that would fit well would be the Oztrail Camp Mat, the Zempire Monstamat Single Camp Mat and the Sea to Sumit DLX SI Sleeping Mat RW.
The Zempire Single Megamat will be a little too wide and long for the Oztent Gonna Stretcher. You'd be best suited with the Oztent King Goanna Stretcher.
How would you recommend cleaning the stretcher? Thanks
As a 27-year-old bloke, I am definitely no expert on the matter of cleanliness! So, I've asked our customer service ninja and mum of 3, Susie. for some help! She suggested that to clean your Oztent Goanna Stretcher, you'd be on to a winner to get yourself some Martha Gardner Woold Mix and to scrub it into your material. Then simply rinse your stretcher bed off and allow it to dry before packing away. Unfortunately, the material doesn't come off of the frame of the bed.
The catalogue only mentions it fitting RV3 and up oztents.
The Oztent Goanna Stretcher is only 190L x 66W x 40H cm so it will easily fit inside the Oztent RV2 which has a space allowance of 200L x 200W cm.
I gather there is a support bar where the centre legs are.
The cross leg in the middle of the frame doesn't actually have a support bar across, so you won't feel anything except for the padded stretcher Celia.
will the darche 900 mat fit on this stretcher? is this stretcher quick and easy to set up or isn't there an easier one? also is there a stretcher that the exped double will fit on?
After comparing the specs, it seems that the Darche 900 mat is a little too long and wide for the Goanna stretcher (which measures 190L x 66W x 40H cm) so it will overhang about 24cm - so it might not be the best option for this stretcher.
The Goanna stretcher is quite easy to use as it just unfolds – the only thing you have to do is secure the end bars to complete the set up.
And as for the Exped Megamat Duo, this mat will fit best on the Oztrail Easy Fold Queen Mat with a bit of room on the side as that's our widest stretcher.
Looking for a wider option but maximum length of 190 cm please advise if you have anything that you would recommend
From having a look at our entire range in store and comparing the dimensions it seems that the Coleman Big Sky Bed is the only bed that's under 190cm that's also wider than the Goanna stretcher at 68cm.
It also comes with it's own mattress which is a bit of a bonus, which is actually quite comfy from trying it in store.
Hi, Does this stretcher fit front to back in a RV3 tent?
Hi Mias, the dimensions of the RV3 are 2m long x 2.4m wide and the Gecko Stretcher is 190cm long so it should just squeeze in front to back in the RV3.
G'day Lisa, the Oztent Goanna Stretcher is a great option for kids because it is a little bit narrower and shorter than your average stretcher, and it leaves a bit of extra room for growth spurts.
would these fit in the jv signature series tent (2) or is the tent just too small for stretcher beds?
Do you have more photos of the gecko and goanna stretcher. A photo of the underneath of the stretcher would be appreciated too.
