You don't want to use your Elemental Thunder Down Under Portable Toilet without the compatible Biodegradable Toilet Bag Liners from Elemental.
Made from 100% biodegradable material, they’re the hygienic and environmentally-friendly way to dispose of your waste when out in the bush as you can bury these bags with their contents after use.
The Elemental Bio-degradable Toilet Bag Liners are made for use in the Elemental Thunder Down Under Portable Toilet but can also be used in most other non-flush toilets.
Staff tip:It can be confusing as the names are similar, but these liners are too small for the Jimmy's Thunderbox Toilet.

Your ad says these are suitable for the Joolcar Eco toilet, Is this confirmed. when I bought my Eco the salesperson suggested Snowys was expecting Joolca bags, however, Joolcar does not supply or promote any particular bag! Can Snowys confirm these will fit the Eco ?
Irene Wallace - Goolwa, SA(5 months ago)
G'day Irene,
They will fit. At this stage Joolca haven't released their own toilet bag.

Double bag 1 answer
My 3 leg toilet seat has black bags (I got 10 with my purchase) Can the bio degradable bags be inserted in these bags and them you do what you must do After which you remove. the black bag with bio bag in it then tie off black bag
Barry - Melbourne, VIC(3 years ago)
G'day Barry,
I'm sure they could, I can't see why not. The only thing to consider is whether or not the internal bag will still biodegrade if incased in other plastic. If your black bags are also biodegradable, or if you want to dispose of them in actual dump points, they'd need to be septic compatible.

Number ones?1 answer
I’m assuming these bags aren’t meant to be used for “number ones”?
Leonie - Kingston Tas(5 years ago)
G'day Leonie,
You can use these bags for number ones, but if you do we'd suggest using sawdust or something similar to soak up the liquid.

Breakdown Timeframe?1 answer
How long does it take for these bags to completely breakdown?
Louise - Bunbury(6 years ago)
G'day Louise,
The Bio-degradable Toilet Bags will generally begin to breakdown within about two weeks. We don't have information from the manufacturer to indicate the overall breakdown timeframe unfortunately.

are these bags ok for jimmys thunder box3 answers
jimmys thunderbox bush toilet
jim - hemmant(6 years ago)
G'day Jim,
The Jimmy's Thunder Box can't be used with a bag liner, they are designed to be used over a drop hole. If you wanted to use a liner bag then we'd suggest going for the Elemental Thunder Down Under Toilet.
Leece - Snowys(6 years ago)
It is possible to line a Jimmy's Thunderbox, and indeed the manufacturer sell bags for this purpose. However, we have tried these particular bags with a Thunderbox and they are too small. You need a bag large enough to fold down underneath the Thunderbox lid so your own bodyweight holds it in place when it's, err, full. You can *just about* get these bags to fit if you're clever but it's not very secure and there's constant risk of a spill. Jimmy's recommend In-Viro bags (as do Snowys on their Thunderbox page).
Rob - Port Stephens(4 years ago)
Thanks for the tip Rob, you're right, larger bags can be used, apologies if the previous response regarding the Elemental Bio-degradeable Toilet Bag Liners was a little confusing. To confirm, the Elemental bags are too small, but you can use larger bio-degradeable liners.

Will this fit on the OzTrail quadfold toilet?1 answer
Will this fit on the OzTrail quadfold toilet?
Trent - Albany WA(7 years ago)
G'day Trent,
The Oztrail Quadfold chair isn't designed for you to be able to attach plastic liners to. It works best over a bucket (which you would put a plastic liner on) or a hole dug into the ground. If you'd prefer a portable seated toilet that you can use a liner with, the Thunder Down Under from Elemental might be one to check out.

So what is the right way to dispose of these bags?1 answer
So what is the right way to dispose of these bags with their waste? Down the toilet that is town sewerage and what about toilets that use a septic tank?
Karen - Aongatete Outdoor Education Centre(7 years ago)
G'day Karen,
I wasn't entirely sure about this, so I gave Elemental a call to see what they recommended for disposing of their Bio-degradable Toilet Bag Liners. They told me that because they're bio-degradable, you can bury them and they'll break down. The same goes for septic tanks, if you flush them, they'll break down.

Seal-able?1 answer
Hello
I was wondering how these bags seal and if it is ok to dispose of them in a rubbish bin? (As one would disposable nappies) Thanks
Mike - Geelong(8 years ago)
G'day Mike,
Unfortunately, the Elemental Bio-degradable Toilet Bag Liners aren't able to be sealed. You'd need to knot the bag.
In terms of disposal, it really comes down to local regulations of the area you are travelling in. Some councils/land owners don't mind you throwing in bins, other prefer you use dump points. Best to check with them.

Is it safe to use the toilet chemicals with these bags?1 answer
Hi, can you use a biodegradable toilet additive such as biomagic with these for a day or two to control the smell? I'm concerned it might accelerate the bags breakdown. Some of the other brands with bags come with a powder you add to help with odour etc.
Mel - Brisbane(8 years ago)
G'day Mel,
I've just given the supplier a call about your questions, and this is what they've told me.
Elemental have told me that they don't think it's a good idea to add any chemicals to the waste, as they're not sure if there would be an issue with acceleration, so we wouldn't recommend using Biomagic or any other powders.
These bio-degradable bags are also not ideal for storing waste in for long periods of time, they're designed to be one use, and then disposed of at an appropriate dump point as soon as possible.

Will these bags fit the Kookaburra Bush Dunny?1 answer
I have the bush dunny - wiil these bags open up enough to fit the square bush dunny?
Daz - Brisbane(9 years ago)
They won't fit sorry Daz. We have tried to get replacement bags for the Bush Dunny before with no success. We recommend the use of biodegradable garbage bags as an alternative, or just digging a really deep hole, which is what the Bush Dunny is really designed for.

Are these bags suitable for disposal in composting ("long drop") toilets?3 answers
As commonly found at roadside rest areas, picnic areas, and the like.
Chris - Hunters Hill(9 years ago)
G'day Chris,
I've just had a look at the packaging on the Elemental Toilet Bag Liners, and they are 100% biodegradeable so they should be fine to dispose of in long drop toilets.
It is always a good idea to do a quick double check before disposing of waste, as these things can be a little tricky and you don't want to get yourself into a mess so to speak!Â
Emily - Snowys(9 years ago)
Not a good idea to dispose in long drops as they are usually pumped out and anything other than the three P's can cause problems with the pumping equipment.
FBS003 - Adelaide(8 years ago)
G'day FBS003,
Thanks for letting us know, this is a topic that we always recommend that people do their homework on before they dispose of waste at any disposal point (where it be a longdrop or otherwise) just to be on the safe side.

how long does bio degradable toilet bag last before it starts breaking down.1 answer
I have a separett toilet in my demountable. I usually change the bags every two weeks. Would your liner last this long?
Karen - NERANG, QLD(10 years ago)
Hi Karen, I wouldn't rely on these bags for two weeks. While there is nothing stated about just how long they will last before breaking down, they are designed for use in temporary toilets at campsites which are generally used for a day or two before being emptied or buried, much more than this and they may start leaking.

How does one dispose of the bag & its contents?1 answer
Dig a hole & bury it or somehow else??
Denise - Scarborough(10 years ago)
G'day Denise,
As these bags are bio-degradable, we'd feel comfortable digging a hole and burying the bag. Hope this helps!

L * W * D ? Wondering if it will fit my portaloo plus how many in pack1 answer
nicola - elwood(10 years ago)
Thanks for your query Nicola, these biodegradable toilet liners fit a bucket style toilet of 35cm dimaeter and 35cm deep. They should have enough depth to cater for most portable toilets, you will need to check the top diameter of your loo to make sure the top of the liner can be securely folded over the lip.
