The Oztent Screen House Hex pitches just as easily as its square sibling but provides much more space making it perfect for an outback dinner party.
Made with flexible fibreglass poles terminated in ultra-tough mechanisms, the Oztent Screen House Hex is pitched by simply inverting the walls and putting two flexible upright poles in place to create a sturdy and roomy enclosure with six mesh sides and a single zippered entrance.
With pack up being just as easy as it is to pitch, the Oztent Screen House Hex has a seam-sealed waterproof roof, optional side walls, and comes backed with a 2-year warranty.
Is the carry bag waterproof for transport in the roof rack of the car?
G'day Charlie,
The carry bag isn't waterproof, it would keep out dust and light rain but you may need something else for transporting on the roof of the car. We currently don't have any travel bags that would be the right size sorry.
How does it hold up in heavy rain? My last Gazebo gazebo collapsed. And it was not a cheapo
G'day TT,
I don't think there are many portable pop up shelters or Gazebos that are designed for heavy rain. While the roof of the Hex is 'waterproof' it is designed for mild or light rain rather than a downpour.
Had a branch come through the roof, 3"x 3" ripped section. Any advice on what materials/patch kit will suit the roof material on the hex screen house?
G'day Michael,
You wont get a colour match, but K-Tape should do the trick. Hopefully being up on the roof it will be less visible.
It's 3" wide, but two overlapping strips applied both inside and outside of the Hex House roof will have you covered.
Hi - I am interested in extending the awning size of my Cub camper weekender to get a large area of shade to fit groups of people. Can you use this as a shade shelter with the door always open (except in inclement weather)? Is there another option or product you would recommend?
G'day Bryony,
The walls aren't removable - only the solid panels that velcro over the mesh are - so the door way only zips open. You can tie back the door sections like a curtain, but if you are wanting more of a full open side you could look at the Oztrail Gazebo range. The dont come with walls, but there are accessories that you can mix and match, and will give you the option to have one whole side open.
Hope that helps!
I have been using this for a while now, but I found two foldable poles come with this screen house in a separate bag, wondering what’s that for ?
G'day,
I'm not sure about 'extra poles' without seeing how you are setting up and what's come with your Hex House, but are you using doorway poles? If you aren't then that's what those poles are.
The info should be in the instructions, but they ultimately just slip upright, internally, into each side of the doorway to help maintain rigidity and structure in this section.
They are for each side of the door as it has no support
Are there internal hooks or loops to attach lighting (string lights or lanterns) inside?
G'day Bree,
Thanks so much for your patience! Apparently there isn't a hook/loop specifically for a lantern, but there is a little ropey thing that you use to help you pull the roof down for pack up, which can easily be used to support a lantern.
As long as its not a huge heavy lantern, you'll have no issues, so best to stick to something around 500g mark or less.
G'day. Is the hex screen house able to stand up without using the guy ropes, as in if I was to only peg the bottom? I am wondering if I could set it up inside my ex-army marquee tent. Cheers.
G'day Glen,
Yes, the Screen House Hex is freestanding, so you can set it up inside your marquee tent and just secure the bottom. Just make sure it is well secured, as the guy ropes help to anchor the screen house in adverse conditions.
Is it made in China?
G'day Leone,
Yes, Oztent Manufactures in China.
Just wondering if there are hooks at the roof level of the hex tent for attaching guy ropes for extra stability.
G'day Geoffrey,
There aren't roof level guy rope mounts, but they are integrated into each side of the screen house around 1m off the ground. If you have a look at some of our customer photos in the review section you'll be able to see where the guy ropes attach and how the provide stability.
Does this screen come with a carry bag? Also the packed size reads 190cm. is the unpacked length any less? Just trying to work out if this will fit in the car
G'day Sez,
Yes, the Screen House Hex is supplied with a nylon carry bag. The packed length of 190cm is when it's in the bag, the box it is supplied in for shipping in slightly longer.
How many side walls are required to completely enclose? Sounds like a silly question being a hex shape but I'm not sure if the front entry is solid wall or mesh OR if it comes standard with any solid walls.
G'day Mick,
Not a silly question at all! They dont come with any walls as a standard, so you'll need 5 x Oztent Screen House Hex Walls. The entry panel is mesh, and as there are no 'zipped' wall options, this will need to stay as is. The solid walls will attach by velcro strips on all other panels. Hope that helps!
I see that is says the packed dimensions are 1900 x 300 x 300 but in videos I've watched it looks smaller than that. I'm assuming this must be the dimension of the box it comes in. Is it possible to get accurate dimensions of the shelter in the bag?
G'day Rob,
I've just double checked our stock here and the packed dimensions are correct. I think the videos you have seen might be the square version that does pack down much smaller.
This is the model with the pop up roof as well as pop output sides?
G'day Carol,
You're spot on, the walls and roof of the Oztent Hex Screen House do 'pop' out when you're erecting the shelter.
does it have silver lining now?
*UPDATE 2022 - The roof is silver-lined. The separately available side walls are also silver-lined.
G'day Hugo,
I rang Oztent as we don't have a demo model I could look at currently, and they've told me it doesn't have the silver lining sorry mate.
hi there how do i stop the top from collapsing everytime it is windy. Do you have a poll that sits in the middle
G'day Jason,
I would suggest that the best way to avoid any collapsing with the Oztent Screen House Hex would be to use plenty of guy ropes and have them nice and taught when it use. This should reduce any movement of the Screen House when it's windy outside.
If it really is so windy that your roof is popping, you could prop the centre inside with either an adjustable telescopic poles with the appropriate padding on the top... Or I have seen people use paint roller extension poles which are also telescopic... Still need to ensure appropriate padding on the top... and I have seen tarp poles with spring loaded heads
On the Hex Screen house. How many wall's will I need to buy to enclose it fully? Do you have a wall for the front Door? Does it only have one door way?
G'day Nicky,
The Oztent Screen House Hex has 6 sides and only has one doorway. Unfortunately, you can't completely enclose the Screen House as there is no velcro around the doorway to attach a solid wall (which would block your ability to get in and out as well).
I have a oztrail gazebo and it's not good in the rain cause the water pools in the corners and water comes through the seams of the roof, So dose this gazebo have a better water run off water proofing on the roof, waking up in the middle of the night with the gazebo roof bout to collapse through the frame cause of the weight of the water.
G'day Marc,
It's hard to say whether the rain will run off any better with the Oztent Screen House Hex. There are often a few variables in play in regards to ground level, set up tension etc. The other thing to consider is that the Screen House is really only designed for mildly bad weather.
What's concerning is that the water shouldn't be pooling on the Oztrail Gazebo. Would you mind shooting an email through to our Warranties Manager, Nick with some photos and he can look into this for you? He can be contacted at service@snowys.com.au
We have two side walls on our hex tent and we leave them on when folding it up with no issues. Fits in the supplied bag no problems.
I brought one of these about 6 months ago (August) with 4 walls (2 sets) and it does not have any silver screening, on the roof or the walls and can't remember if it was advertised with it or not.. Order number 31796
We have the little brother of this screen house with four walls, there I can say that we just went through heavy rain and storm next to the Dutch North Sea in late winter / early spring and it withstood all challenges extremely well! Just peg it down safely and you will stay safe and dry (with the additional walls, though) - Oztent rocks!
Can you supply the attachable walls to suit the Hex screen house and how much are they? Will you do a deal for the house plus 5 walls? If so I am interested in purchasing from you.
