Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED 8"

Sorry about this, the video was filmed over 5 years ago, in the very early days of our video productions. The specifications in the video aren't quite right sorry, the battery life stated in the specs section is correct. 6 hours on low, 4 hours on high.

Unfortunately, the Coleman Rechargeable Fans won't re-charge from a power bank, they're designed to charge from 12V DC or 240V AC. The Companion Aerobreeze 17cm Fan has a built-in battery that can charge from 5V USB. The internal battery is 3.7V, 2600mAh, so if you went for this dan you'd want to use a power bank with a much larger capacity than the internal battery of the fan iteself.

You can charge this unit from 12V as required, however, we'd recommend running a full charge cycle from 240V before you head off on your trip, the fan is 16 watts.

Both the 12" and the 8" fans have an option to Oscillate or to stop it oscillating.

The 12" and 8" fans feel pretty similar in terms of output airflow. The swivel/oscillating features on the 12" does a slightly better job of circulating air in smaller spaces, but we won't say there's really a difference in the strength of airflow.

The battery in the Coleman Rechargeable 8" fans can be replaced but you won't get one at the local supermarket. It's a Sealed Lead-Acid battery and you'll need to head to a specialist like Jaycar or Batteryworld. This one from Jaycar looks like it's the correct model but I always advise customers to consult the experts so give them a call or pop into your local store to discuss with them. The Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED 8" is designed to be run from the rechargeable battery and will last 4 hours on high, 6 hours on low. If you're wanting to run it direct via 12V or 240V you can do this too, the unit is listed as 16 watts.

At risk of sitting on the fence with this one, it really depends on what you're wanting to get out of your 8" Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED. If all you want is a small amount of air circulation and some light breeze, then it's going to be an absolute ripper but if you wanted to create some real gusts to battle the heat, then you might want to look at something a little bigger.

Unfortunately, the Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED doesn't come with any sort of warning or cut out system for low voltage when it's charging using 12v.

There is no 'lifetime' timeframe provided for the rechargeable battery sorry as this ultimately depends on how you maintain and use it.

In regards to sourcing a new one, you'd need to visit a battery specialist like Battery World who may be able to help you out.

It's highly unlikely however that you'll need to replace the battery for some time.

If you plug the Coleman Rechargeable Fans in whilst the switch is set to 'DC', the fan will cut out and the battery will charge. However... if you flick the switch to 'AC' whilst the unit is plugged into a power source, the fan will run and the charge indicator will show. This will then give you the added back up ability to run off the battery if ever required.

The reason you switch to DC when connected to 240V to recharge is so that the fan doesn’t run when it’s charging if that makes sense – so I would follow what the instructions say regarding that.

You can charge this unit somewhat with a 12V source, but it will be a slow trickle charge so you’re not going to be able to get a full charge on it without draining your car battery, so we would recommend giving it a full charge on 240V source as per the manual.

It's good to hear that you're enjoying your rechargeable fan Annette - you've got to have a cool breeze going when the weather is warm! 

Hi Sandy, if you've the 12V plugged in, the fan should run with the switch on the "AC". If it's unplugged, you'll then need to flick it over to "DC" to run the fan. I hope this helps, please give us a call if you're still having trouble.

This has an 8 inch diameter fan Liz, there is also a 12 inch version available on our website. If it is external dimensions you are seeking, you can see these for both models next to the "Dimensions" field under the product specifications. This model measures 36.5H x 29.5W x 12D cm. Let me know if this is not the information you are seeking.

There is Nathan, both Coleman fans come with cables for charging from 12V DC (cigarette plug) and 240V AC sources.

Hi Kylie, run time on battery is about 6 hours on low, and 4 hours on high. The front grill is the oscillating feature, directional fins within the grill direct air as it spins while the fan is running.

Hi CB, this fan is best used on the floor, it has no hanging hooks and would be too heavy to hand from a tent ceiling. The Coleman Gold Series tents all come with some form of hooks or loops to hang lightweight lanterns and fans from the ceiling.

Hi Ben, despite the manual indicating that the red LED light will switch off once the battery is fully charged, this is not the case. We are following this up with Coleman. There is no fault with the operation of the product, the only issue is knowing when the battery is fully charged. We recommend 20 - 24 hours of charge time for the Sealed Lead Acid battery in this unit.
