What makes the perfect slice?
It takes two hands to support the base. Fine strings of cheese cling to the board, snap free, and lightly singe your skin. The point flops over the edge of your knuckle, and the middle sags beneath a single prawn. The crust is tough enough to grasp, but soft enough to eat. Cheese bubbles and melts into a leopard-spotted blanket. Charred pockets of air crumble lightly at the crust’s edge.
From successfully channeling their desire to educate school communities on creativity and problem-solving, dynamic wedded duo Kristian Tapaninaho and Darina Garland identified an issue of their own: their basic home oven was yet to bake the perfect base, spot-char the perfect crust, or craft that perfect slice.
From their cheesy desire to do better, Ooni - initially 'Uuni', since altered to the phonetic spelling for ease of pronunciation - began to marinate, oven-bake, and finally resonate as a multi-award business all over the world. Today, Kristian and Darina continue to deliver that authentic pizza experience past the flour-dusted steel bench of a specialist pizza café, into our humble backyards and beyond.
