If you’re a value-chasing hiker that will only settle for the highest quality the MSR Elixir 3 Hiking Tent is the lightweight tent for you. And it’s roomy enough for three, or two and stacks of gear.

Good Motorcycling Tent

Use it for motorcycle camping, packs reasonably small (needs to be put into a dry bag if you strap it to your bike) and is big enough to put all my gear in and an extra person. Can be put up solo without drama, and the extra ground sheet keeps it clean. Have not tried to set up in the rain yet, but this would be a similar issue with most of the tents out there in that the fly goes on last. Great quality materials and no issues with condensation so far. Nice touches are gutters round the zips on the fly, diverts water away from the entry, and the ample storage nets on the inside. Good stuff!

Great all round tent

This is a perfect tent for someone looking an extremely versatile tent, it's super light weight, packs fairly small, is roomy enough for two people (queen mattress) and some small luggage and is fairly quick and easy to set up.

There are a few accessories you may like to buy, like the clip in gear loft (it would be super easy to make one too if you were crafty), the ties (not included, but I don't know if you'd need them) and perhaps some pegs for sand if you're camping at the beach

vs Hubba Hubba?1 answer

Would you say that the hubba hubba is an upgrade to this and why?

- Glen Waverley(1 month ago)

G'day Petros,

I'm not sure I would class it as an upgrade, rather they're simply two different styles of tent. The Hubba range is the top of the MSR Hiking Tent Range, whereas the Elixir is placed in the middle of the range.

The major differences between the two are capacity as the Elixir 3 can fit 3 people whereas the Hubba Hubba can only fit 2. As a result, there is a significant weight difference where the Hubba Hubba is almost 1.5kg lighter.

This weight difference is what makes the Hubba range more appealing overall as the materials used are still as durable and reflective of the high MSR quality, but come with significantly less weight.
