Arnie, Hulk Hogan and the Rock could all comfortably tuck up together inside the massive Cold Mountain Dual Sleeping Bag from Darche. The Cold Mountain Dual was designed for the hunter, fisher or adventurer who likes the extra room, and a solid night’s sleep in imperfect weather conditions.
The outer shell is made from water-resistant polyester with dual zips for easy access, and with 2 layers of fibre filling, you’re going to stay warm all night. The inside liner feels like silk to the touch, and the 3D collar and wind baffle will protect you from an icy breeze. There’s also an internal pocket to keep any valuables or useful tools like a torch or your phone at hand.
Although designed for one, there is more than enough room for two people in this bag. So, if you're in need of an extremely roomy and high performing sleeping bag, you can’t go past the Darche Cold Mountain.
Does the 250cm length include the hood in this measurement or is the hood added as extra to the 250cm? Thanks
Christine - Marmion, WA(1 year ago)
G'day Christine,
The External dimensions are the total measurements of the entire product, which includes the hood. We do state a maximum user height which is 230cm. Hope that helps.

Fit in 1100 swag1 answer
I really like the extra room as I move around a lot in my swag due to aching hips. Would this work in currently my 900 swag but soon to be upgraded to an 1100 on a stretcher. Currently using 100 cm wide bag and they are very restrictive when moving around. This would be for winter camping in around 0 to -5. Thanks
Marc - Sydney, NSW(1 year ago)
G'day Marc,
Theres no reason why you cant use this in your 900 swag, but just bear in mind you'll have a fair amount of excess sleeping bag bunched up in there which might make the space uncomfortable. It would be a better bet in an 1100 swag, so potentially hold off on upgrading your bag until you have your larger swag.

Joining together1 answer
Hi. Could two of these be joined together to make a massive bag for 2?
Lynette - Port Macquarie, NSW (2 years ago)
G'day Lynette,
Yes, absolutely. You can either join them together down one side, or open them out fully like two large sandwiched blankets, and zip up everything around the edge. That will ultimately give you a sleeping bag just under 3m wide. Hope that helps.

Replacement bag1 answer
The compression sack for this bag has split - is there a replacement that would be easier to fit it into? Trying to get this bag into its sack is the worst part of my trip.
Lou - 3000(4 years ago)
G'day Lou,
Unfortunately we don't have a specific replacement bag designed for these bags, but a Swag Bag or Large Duffle Bag will give you a bit more room to play with, and might help in the pack up process.

Sizing for 2 people1 answer
As a double sleeping bag, how realistic is it for 2 adults to share comfortably?
Lisa - Narrabrai, NSW(5 years ago)
G'day Lisa,
The Cold Mountain 1400 Double Sleeping Bag is designed for two people. We'd generally advise that you only share this bag with someone you really like as they can be a little squeezy if you're used to a queen size bed quilt!

What size for us?1 answer
My husband and I have had oztrail sleeping bags that zip together to make double bag for about 28 years. They were originally rated -5 degrees and have been amazing value. We can't seem to find a bag that will replace the old ones well. the old ones we have had zipped together to fit really well onto a queen sized mattress. We need the bag to be versatile and able to handle really cold and hot outback Aus conditions. Could we purchase two of these cold mountain 1400 bags and zip together? Have you got a suggestion for us please?
Wendy Gordon - Perth(6 years ago)
G'day Wendy,
It sounds like your old sleeping bags have served you well over the years! The Darche Cole Mountain range should meet the requirements for the temperature you're after. The 1400 is already a double size so if you were to zip two together you might end up with a very very large sleeping bag. If you're wanting to zip two together to fit on a queen-size mattress my suggestion would be to get two of the Darche Cold Mountian 110s or 900s instead.

Can I use this in the Summer?1 answer
Hi. Me and my partner are avid festival goers and camp during both the freezing cold of winter AND th 40 degree Aussie summer. The last thing we'd want to do is spend a lot of money on a sleeping bag that's unbearably hot and unusable for half the year. Thanks!
Nick - Sydney(7 years ago)
G'day Nick,
The Darche Cold Mountain 1400 Double Sleeping Bag is quite a warm bag designed to get through cold winter nights, hence the -12 rating. There are a lot of variables to whether this bag might work for you during the warm summer months dependant on body temperature, ground insulation etc. So it's tough to say whether you'll be hot in it, but my guess would be that you would be. One way of getting around the warmth during summer could be to unzip the sleeping bag to allow for more ventilation.

What is the length of this not including the hood?1 answer
I'm wondering what the length is if the hood is folded back. With a length of 2500 this is too long for both my swag and tent :(.
Louise - Hobart(8 years ago)
G'day Louise,
We actually don't have the 1400 model on display (and unfortunately I can't take one out of the bag for you) but we do have the 1100 and so I've measured the hood on that model and it's 40cm long.
The hoods on both bags should roughly be the same - so the hood on the 1400 should be around 40-50cm.

Zips1 answer
Is there a zip on the side and a separate zip for the bottom so i can get my feet out?
Russ - Woodend(8 years ago)
G'day Russ,
Yep this bag has a dual zip so it can be unzipped down the side or the bottom, or BOTH! (you can use it like a doona).
Happy camping!

How do I turn these into a doona?1 answer
I looked at one of these and I saw it has a double zip on the side and a separate zip at the bottom.. I,m wondering how it opens up into a doona when the zip on the side wont come off either end.. You can zip it to the top or bottom to the zip stops but how would it open up with the zip in either of these positions?
Brian - Brisbane(8 years ago)
G'day Brian,
Yes, this bag can be opened up to become a doona. The way it works is you drag both zips down to the bottom corner of the bag and then one side of the zip pulls out from both sliders, a bit like a zippered jacket but with two zips. You can then do the same with the bottom as well. You can even go one step further and do the third side leaving you with two single doonas! Very versatile, comfortable and warm sleeping bag! Cheers!

Is it possible zip 2 sleeping bags together?3 answers
It would be ideal to find 2 x sleeping bags that could be zipped together to fit adult child and then later separated
Rosalie J Crowder - Hahndorf SA(8 years ago)
Hi Rosalie, yes these can absolutely be zipped together to make a double bag. Just make sure to puchase a left and right hand zip.
Lisa - Snowys(8 years ago)
so on purchase - there isn't a left and right zip variant? i am ready to buy two... how can i confirm you will send a left and right so combining works?
Chris - Cheltenham East VIC(6 years ago)
G'day Chris,
Thanks for your enquiry! I spoke with one of our reps at Darche who confirmed they no longer make their bags with left and right specific zips. They use dual zips now so you can purchase 2 bags and be confident that they will zip together.

Darche Double Sleeping Bad Liner3 answers
Hi Just received my Darche Double 1400 sleeping bag, awesome bag! Although a bit of a fight to get it back in the bag. Practice I guess! Now I was just wondering if they sell a double size liner to fit inside? Or an alternative brand. Thanks Jason
Jason - Sorrento(8 years ago)
G’day Jason,
I’ve just had a chat to the floor staff downstairs and they say the exact same thing – it’s an absolute pain to get back into the bag. They would recommend just stuffing it in slowly (don’t fold) as that seems to be the best way to get it back in.
As for a liner, Darche don’t make one, but Sea to Summit make a Double Cotton Travel Liner that is the closest in size. It is a little wider and not as long as the Cold Mountain 1400, so it won’t be a perfect fit – so just keep that in mind. Â
Emily - Snowys(8 years ago)
It‘s now 4 years later, I’m wondering if there is now a liner that fits this bag better than the one mentioned here? I have been using a double flannelette sheet inside the bag and would like to upgrade.
Lou - 3000(4 years ago)
G'day Lou,
Unfortunately, we're still in the same situation, the options for double liner haven't really changed, there is the Sea to Summit Double Liner, but nothing other than this. My other suggestion would be to sew together two sheets to make a double-sized liner, but it sounds like that's similar to what you've already got.

Dual Zip & Packed size.1 answer
Could you confirm that the 1400 has a zip on both sides? And also what is the size when packed in its bag.
Thank You.
Jason - PERTH, WA(8 years ago)
G’day Jason, I’ve just had a look at the display model of the Darche Cold Mountain 1400 Double Sleeping Bag, and I can confirm that it does have dual zips. I’ve measured the bag, and the packed dimensions are 51cm in length x 31cm in circumference.

Two sleeping bags.1 answer
Can I zip a smaller sleeping bag to the big one to create a larger bag?
Ian - TUMUT, NSW(8 years ago)
G’day Ian, I can’t find any information from Darche that says that you can do this, but we’ve just tried it ourselves in store with a Darche Cold Mountain 900 (Right Zip) and we had success. The compatible zipper for the 1400 is on the left side, so you’ll need a bag with a right zip. It will also have to be a bag from Darche as the zipper coil has to be the same for it to be compatible. Another thing to keep in mind is that with a different sized bag there will be a zipper length difference of 5-10cm, but that won’t affect how they join up at all.
