For more than 15 years the SteriPEN Classic has used UV lights to make water safe to drink for hundreds of thousands of adventurers all over the world.
Continual refinement of the SteriPEN Classic means the current Classic 3 model, when powered by lithium batteries, now treats up to 150 litres of water, has a 90 second treatment time, and a lamp life of 8000 cycles, that’s 8000 litres of water!
Powered by four alkaline, lithium or NiMH batteries, the SteriPEN Classic 3 safely delivers UV light to a glass or bottle of water, reflecting the light throughout the vessel and killing 99.9% of waterborne microorganisms.
Included is the SteriPEN Pre-Filter which removes particulates, the Classic 3 is ideal for wide mouth bottles, and fits securely in water bottle spouts down to 22mm so you can flip the bottle upside down to activate the lamp.

Just checking- is the prefilter integrated into the steripen, or does it screw into your bottle?
G'day Dan,
The pre-filter is a separate attachment that will attach to a wide mouth water bottle (most Nalgene or Camelbak models). You screw it on with the filter cartridge in place, fill the bottle from the water source, then remove the cartridge and insert the pen into the slot the cartridge usually seats in. It would be with having a look at the downloadable user guide at the bottom of the specs section for a diagram of this.
I recently walked Jatbula and only got 12-15L before batteries (Energizer) went flat
G'day Cameron,
The temperature will impact how quickly batteries will discharge, so depending on the batteries you've used and the temperature it is likely that this is why you had some issues. Lithium batteries will last the longest in colder weather, so if you give the unit a whirl with those is colder weather you should see a better battery life.
We were thinking of getting a camel pack for our water instead of bottles (due to bulk in the pack) and was wondering if the steripen van be used in a camel pack?
G'day Jessie,
The SteriPen is designed to treat either 500ml or 1L of water using a specific timeframe to effectively kill any bugs. A Camelbak is generally a 2L or 3L bladder which potentially could mean the water is not effectively sterilised and given that this is fairly critical we wouldn't recommend this as a safe option.
