The RescueME PLB doesn't start transmitting until 50 sec after pushing the button, giving time to deactivate without alerting SAR. Does the ACR do something similar? I couldn't find anything in the manual.
G'day Richard,
It doesn't, no. The ACR ResQLink begins transmitting immediately and beacon locating is determined within a few minutes.
In the case of a false activation, you would need to contact the relevant authorities with your PLBs UIN and advise them ASAP.
Are you able to view your GPS co-ordinates without setting off the beacon (eg, starting a rescue operation)?
G'day Kyle,
I've just had a read through the manual, which you can find as a PDF file on the product page.
You can run up to 20 GPS tests on the unit, which will display GPS co-ordinates, which you can find more information about on page 17.
I'm not sure if it's a function I'd want to rely on in an emergency situation, but it's a way to obtain coordinates without activating the beacon itself.
Are there authorised battery replacers for the ACR units and what is the estimated cost of battery replacement?
G'day Jo,
Yes, there are a few ACR battery replacement centres around Australia, the most recent cost we've been quoted is about $200.
do the coords show on screen when you use a GPS test.
G'day Jules,
Yes when running the GPS test your coordinates will show on the screen. Head over to page 17-18 of the user manual (downloadable at the bottom of the specifications section) for more information regarding how to run the test, and what will be displayed.
