If you’re looking for a way to directly charge your handheld USB devices – then look no further than the Nomad 7 Plus from Goal Zero.
The lighter and slightly up-specced version of the Nomad 7, the Nomad 7 Plus has a few extra features. The detachable kickstand makes it easy to get the exact angle you’ll need to catch the sun’s rays, and will shade your devices as they charge. The LED indicator will let you know the strength of the solar conditions, so you’ll know to adjust it to get the maximum amount of sun possible.
The Nomad Plus 7 has an auto restart function that can tell the difference between a fully charged device, and one that has disconnected due to a shadow or lack of sunlight – so it will automatically reconnect it for you if need be. This solar panel will charge a smartphone in 2.5-5 hours, a GPS in 2.5-5 hours and a Goal Zero Guide 1 Plus in 2.5-5 hours, and a Goal Zero Switch 8 in 2-4 hours.
Perfect for outdoor adventures when you’re off the grid, the Nomad 7 Plus from Goal Zero is a simple and efficient solar energy solution to power your small devices.
So after i recieved the panel i thought i should do some testing for this review as some people seem to get confused with panels. In my tests i used 2 different types of usb charge doctors which are not always accurate so i am providing the average of each (your results may vary). when i had (1x solid light i was getting 0.08amp @ 4.1v) (2x solid lights +1 flashing i got 0.2amp @5v) (3x solid lights + 1 flashing light i was getting 0.78amp @5.2v) (and when all 4x lights were solid i got around 1.2amp @5v)
Overall this panel performs better than others i have used, the charge indicator is very handy to habe, its sturdy and feels like it will last a long time. good purchase for those long treks and camping expeditions.
My reccomendation to people would be to partner any panel u buy with a powerbank as solar does not provide stable/constant amp&volts so if you plug your phone directly into this panel when you have less than 3 solid lights on the indicator your phone will most likely discharge if its powered on - even if the screen is off. So charge a powerbank off the panel then charge your phone off the powerbank as its a more stable, powerful charge.
I initially didnt check that all components of the panel were firmly connected- was a bit disconcerted thinking I had bought a dud. My tip is to check the plug that comes out the rear of the panel is firmly plugged to the USB charger BEFORE looking like a twat and contacting someone from Snowys with a warranty claim like I did. The panel is great, gives a really good charge to my power bank, ensuring many happy charges to my other devices. Very much appreciate the design of the panel, it is lightweight and well considered. Folds neatly away when not in use. Really pleased with this purchase.
The Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus Solar Panel discharges my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (from 19% to 0% and half full to 0% twice) while hiking at the Great Ocean Road. It happened when I moved from the direct sun ray to the shade areas under the trees and back to the sun light and then to the shade areas and back and forth between the sunlight and shade areas. If I could give it 0 star I would, unfortunately this website will not allow 0 star rating.
Oh that would've been so frustrating, I'm sorry to hear that. These panels, along with most Goal Zero products, are incredibly good - so it sounds like something isn't quite right.
Either way, we want to help fix the issue. Could you please send us an email ([email protected]) and Nick, our warranty guru, will get back to you right away with a plan.
Hope your Nomad didn't put a dampener on your GOR trip. Laine
This is a great little solar charger for all the gadgets we like to carry with us these days, especially on those longer trips off the grid. On a nice sunny day it puts almost the same amperage into my phone as my wall charger does. Very fast delivery and awesome service from Snowys. I'm stoked with this purchase!
The Nomad 7 specifies that it has toggles to attach it to a pack and use on the go. Just wondering if this is also the case for the 7 plus as it does not mention it in the description?
The Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus Solar Panel doesn't have the toggles like the Nomad 7 does, it does have holes in the corners that you can use toggles, carabiners or other ties to hold the panel in place.
Hi, Just wondering when you expect stock of the Nomad 7plus?
I've just spoken with Goal Zero and we're expecting to receive more Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus stock either Friday next week or the end of the following week (once the Christmas Holidays have passed). Unfortunately, at this time of year, there are a lot of variables with delivery times and I can't give you much more of a clearer idea than that.
