Since its steel, will it work with induction cook top. Usually cook on the fire, but have induction as a backup so I don't need to carry gas... looking for something that will work in both
G'day Adam,
I have one of these frypans, they are great!
We dont have an official induction confirmation on these, but I've just grabbed mine from the kitchen kit and a magnet sticks to it like crazy!!
I dont think you'll have any issues using this on an induction cooktop.
Do you have any seasoning tips? I’m not sure if the handle can go into the oven like the recommendations for the station base pans? Thanks
G'day Matt,
We've got a blog post on seasoning your camp oven HERE, and also a podcast episode HERE, both of these apply to all camping cast iron of spun steel cookware. I personally don't season anything in the oven, I only use the stovetop, so you wouldn't need to worry about the wooden handle doing it that way.
Is this handle compatible with the hill billy cook stand? I see it has a hole in the end Of the handle that might fit on the cookstand- just like the other shorter handles of the cookstand specific pans? Cheers
G'day Will,
I've just given this a whirl and unfortunately not, the hole in the handle is smaller than the cook stand pole.
Hi, I have purchased steel frypans and skillets before, and some have been pretty good quality. Is the base on these flat and will it prevent bowing, raising in the middle? I hate it when all the oil runs to the outside. Cheers
These are made with good quality heavy-duty steel, Russell which is the same thickness throughout i.e. not thicker on the base. Excessive heat is what often causes warping or bowing and it is most prevalent in frypans made with thin steel, of which this one is not.
I guess what I am saying is that it's not out of the question that anything can bow. Try and keep heat spread evenly across the base and don't use it in a raging fire and you should be right.
The base on my frypan warped/bowed during first use, I would not recommend
