The Australian made, and great value for money Aussie Camp Oven from Southern Metal Spinners is the ultimate way to cooker tucker in the bush.
Built for outback cooks or garden cooks, you just need the heat of an open fire and you’ll be on your way to cooking a delicious meal outdoors. This versatile design is actually 5 products in one – an oven, fry pan, hanging pan, boiling pot and trivet and it comes in a range of sizes to suit your needs.
Constructed from spun steel, this oven is 75% lighter than its cast iron counterparts and comes complete with a trivet for extra versatility.
I now have all three sizes, they're just outstanding.
very happy with camp oven. great product fast shipping.
Very Happy with this camp oven.
I got this a couple of weeks ago. Very happy with it. Seasoned no problems. Easy to cook in. Nothing stuck to it.
Delivery from Snowys was very quick.
I used this camp oven on our last trip and made an amazing dinner for 7! Lots of height, used the lid as a frypan the next day. Heats up quickly and fairly light especially compared to cast iron. Highly recommended. Also bought the pioneer bag which fit perfectly
Great much quicker to cook with more internal height which is great.its light weight and less chance of breaking not like the cast iron pots, love it.
Very pleased with spin steel camp oven. Delivered promptly. Have tried it out on my gas cooker. It heated up well - was able to cook a nice loaf of bread in it. Looking forward to trying it over campfire too. Bought the Pioneer bag for it too - fits this size well.
I’ve always cooked with cast iron, but I thought I’d try the spun steel for the weight, strength etc. Really glad I did. The oven is everything described and thicker than I thought. YouTube for the best way to season as the DVD and instructions condritict each other. DVD is funny to watch. For a spin steel turtorial, he really loves cast iron :) nevertheless great oven, great service yet again from Snowys. Thanks guys.
I purchased this camp oven with one purpose
in mind, to make bread, cakes, pastries for
our trips off grid. It required a lengthy period to
season it(5 hours approx.) but do it right once
and its yours forever. The first cook-off was a
Damper, and no complaint. Since I have made
bread, Chelsea bun , fruit cake and pizza.
most of these made at home in the fire pit
as a learning curve before we head off into
the desert this year. The best investment.
Wondering if the 12” oven will fit in the oztrail 9qt bag? Having measured my oven and adding a safety margin, the quoted measurements for the bag suggest it should fit. Can you advise?
I've just given this a quick whirl myself to confirm your theory. I did manage to get the 12" Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Oven into the Oztrail 9Qt Bag. I did have a few hassles with the handles getting caught on the edges and did need to massage it a little to get it in but once it was in the bag, it fit nicely.
Will the 10" Bedourie Oven fit inside a 10" or 12" Aussie camp oven?
I've just given this a whirl with our display models. The 10" Bedourie Oven fit inside the 10" Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Oven but there wasn't room for the lid too. It fit both the oven and the lid inside the 12" though.
I would like to purchase a larger-sized camp oven and am trying to figure out the performance differences between the bushmaster 12.5 L and the 12 inch southern metal spinners camp oven. The main differences seem to be… 1. The blue steel of the bush master May have better nonstick properties? And slightly heavier So being a little less tricky on the bottom… 2. But the 12 inch southern metal spinners looks a little easier to handle with handles on the lid as well as the base… I’m looking for something to handle all types of dishes from slow cooked meat casseroles to damper. What would be your recommendation Between these two options?
I reckon you've made some pretty good observations on both the Hillybilly and the Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Oven. I think it all comes down to which of the two suit your needs better. If you season your oven really well, then you won't need to worry so much about the nonstick properties of the oven, as you'll be able to create that for yourself.
We’re camping at the moment and fellow campers have just shown us their camp oven. It’s 10” in diameter across the base and 11” in diameter across the top. Is this the 10” version then?
You're bang on there. The 10" version of the Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Oven has a 10" base and pushes out to about 11" at the top.
i have the 12 inch aussie camp oven and i was wondering if there is a vegetable ring that would fit in my camp oven
I just had a try with the Hillbilly Vegetable Rings that we stock and unfortunately, neither of them fit the Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Ovens.
I was just wondering which and what size covers fit the 12 inch camp oven thanks
There isn't a camp oven bag that we have that will fit the 12" size Aussie Camp Oven perfectly without being hard to do up or slightly too loose.
From testing the sizes in store, I would say that a 12-quart size bag would be the best option though there will be some excess around the sides. I hope this helps Brook!
Hello could you please tell me the height of the Southern Metal Spinners camp oven, without the lid (pot height only)
Without the lid, the 10" Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Oven is about 155mm high, whilst the 12" option is about 165mm high.
Can I use the Southern Metal Spinners Aussie camp oven on a gas cooker?
You can use your Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Oven on a gas cooker, just be wary of the heat levels. The Aussie Metal Spinners range is designed for slow flames from a fire and tends to heat very quickly. Without being careful, you might burn your lunch!
Hi, just wondering the recommendations of how many people the 10inch vs 12 inch Aussie Camp Oven cook? E.g. for a family including roasts? Also could I please get measurements?
I've just had a look at the Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Ovens on our shop floor. The 12" would feed about 8 people, I'd say, and measures 30.5 x 16 cm internally. The 10" would feed about 6 people and measures 27.5 x 14 cm internally.
Which pioneer storage bag would work best with the 10 inch Southern Metal Spinners Aussie Camp Oven? Thanks
Unfortunately, there is no perfect fit, the 4.5qt bag is a tight fit, however, I'd recommend the 9qt which will ensure you easily have enough room.
Would the 30cm folding hillbilly grill fit inside the 12" camp oven?
I'm not 100% about which grill you are referring to. Can you send me a link to the product so I can be sure about my advice?
No worries. Unfortunately the Aussie Camp Oven 12" is 30cm, so the 31cm frying pan won't fit.
We bought the 12" before chrissie and think its great!!
G'day Steve and Vik,
Firstly, I just want to say we're so pleased that you're loving your Camp Oven so far, it's always good to hear that our customers are enjoying their gear!
Secondly, I've just tested a few of our accessories out in store and I found that the small and large Hillbilly Vegetable Rings weren't a good fit for the 12" size Aussie Camp Oven unfortunately.
A method that some of our customers use it to use a rack in their camp oven, and place the meat in the middle and the veggies on the side. Primus make a 9 Qt size rack that is a good fit for the 12" Aussie Camp Oven - so that's an option you guys might want to consider.
Will a 12" Dr Livingstone fit into the smaller Camp Oven Mate?
It will Burt, the Camp Oven Mate we have is 36cm in diameter, while the 12" Dr Livingstone's measures 32cm diameter. There are two sizes in the Camp Oven Mate, Large and Jumbo, and we sell the Large version which is designed for 12" camp ovens.
For those huge family cookoffs where one oven is not enough...
I've just had a go of this myself in store, and I found that the 10" doesn't fit in the 12" Oven, as the handles and lid stick out too much.
Having trouble finding any dimensions on the bags.
Looking at the pioneer camp oven bags and noticed there's a 10qt canvas cover. Would this be the better option?
