With an advanced display and internal rechargeable battery, the SteriPEN Ultra is the best water purifier for travellers and adventurers who are always on the go.
Treatment and battery status is clearly indicated on the OLED display while the internal Lithium Ion battery delivers 50 x 1-litre treatments from a full charge. The SteriPEN Ultra is ideal for wide mouth bottles and fits securely in water bottle spouts down to 22mm so you can flip the bottle upside down to activate the lamp.
Once activated and submerged, the SteriPEN Ultra safely delivers UV light to a glass or bottle of water, reflecting the light throughout the vessel and killing 99.9% of waterborne microorganisms. With a lamp life of 8000 activations, your SteriPEN Ultra will provide safe drinking water for thousands of travel miles.

on your website you have two models , this one and another 1/2 the price, what is the difference and why is this one more expensive?
G'day Scott,
The SteriPEN Ultra, and SteriPEN Classic both use the same UV lamp to purify your water, that will last for 8000 cycles, the difference is in the power source. The Ultra model has a built-in rechargeable battery and a screen that will show if your purification cycle has completed successfully. The Classic model uses 4 x AAA batteries and uses coloured lights on the side to indicate if the cycle has been successful. Overall they'll both do the same job though.
the blurb talks about a bottle or glass, does the water need to be in a clear glass to operate or could it be say a coloured water bottle and not clear
G'day Scott,
The bottle or container doesn't need to be clear, however having a clear bottle will help you to see the quality of the water, and be able to determine if there is any sediment in the water - if there is sediment or the water is murky, then the recommendation is that you would pre-filter the water. You can use a coloured bottle, that's not a worry, just be sure to check a small amount of the water source you're using in a clear container or cupped hands so you know if any filtering is required.
Another site suggests that after the lamp passes 8000 treatments, they will replace it free of charge (only one time). I work at ships at sea and like to get the spare lamp in advance if possible.
Hi Siamack,
I've not heard of the free replacement after 8000 treatments, however we should be able to get a spare replacement lamp, we'd just need to check in with the supplier and see if they're currently available. Please flick us an email: service@snowys.com.au and our spare parts team can chase this up for you.

G'day Jason,
The Ultra Water Purifier isn't really designed to be used in a bladder as the UV light needs to have clear view of all the water to ensure everything is effectively treated. We'd recommend using it with a wide mouth 1L bottle.
Does the light need to reflect off a glass bottle to work or can you use it in a plastic bottle?
G'day Zoe,
The SteriPEN Ultra Water Purifier can be used in a plastic bottle, there is no need for any reflection. Just make sure you follow the instructions and activate the unit for the correct amount of time-based on the bottle size.
