How long does it take to warm up on a sunny day? Have a big family and if we use it then another family member wants a shower, how long will it take to warm again? Thanks
G'day B,
Generally, you'll need 3-4 hours of sunlight on a nice warm sunny day to bring the water up to a nice temperature. Another option would be to heat up some water on the stove and mix it 50/50 with room temperature water if you wanted to have multiple showers in a row.
How long is the provide hose? Does it look like its possible to pull the hose off and replace with a longer one without causing too much damage?
G'day John,
The hose is approximately 50cm long, but you could likely find some similar diameter hose at a hardware store and replace it to make it longer if you wanted to.
Does it have a built-in thermometer
G'day Katrina,
No, the Companion Pioneer Portable Solar Shower does not have a built-in thermometer.
Just wondering if it's a cold/overcast day, can you fill it with warm water and use?
G'day Colleen,
You can certainly fill the Solar Shower with warm water on a cold/overcast day.
Would like to know how long the shower would last to drain 20l. Have a family of 5 and this seems top be the largest solar shower I can find. Is it best to erect the shower tent near a tree and hang the solar shower off a tree branch and poke the hose through the hose slot?
Hi Regarding set up- I am an average height woman. When the bag is full I find it too heavy to hang up high like on a tree branch. Therefore I don't know how long it would last if full. To get it high enough to stand under you would basically have to climb the tree in search of a very high branch. If you hang it on a branch about 2 metres high due to the length of the hose it means you basically have to have your shower squatting or sitting down. I am considering trying to cut and shorten the hose and am also investigating shower pumps for this reason. It's ok fora very short shower if you don't mind sitting while you shower. The ability to shut the hose while you lather up with soap then turn on again while you rinse is useful. I don't think there is enough water pressure to wash long hair but may be ok for very short hair.
These are certainly simple showers Jennifer, albeit effective for the price. I'd recommend using a rope thrown over a branch to hoist the shower up higher, or as you mention you could cut the hose to suit your needs, it will still be perfectly functional. Long hair may take a while to rinse I agree, so for anyone with long luscious locks, it may be worth investing in an electric shower with a pump.
