It's hard to give an accurate answer as no-see-um mesh is a trademarked type of mesh. What we do know Mosquito Headnet Permethrine not only has an ultra-fine mesh, the mesh has permethrin embedded into it, which will keep the mozzies at bay.

The manufacturer doesn't specify any safety precautions in regards to the permethrin for children however it might be worth consulting a medical professional for clarification. It's also worth checking out the Royal Children's Hospital website, which, among other things mentions Permethrin treated clothing for children.

I've just grabbed a Sea to Summit Mosquito Headnet to measure for you. The circumference of the hole at the bottom is about 100cm and it's about 37cm from top to bottom when laying flat.

How important or useful is the permethrin on the head net?1 answer

Do I need to have permethrin on the head net or is just a headnet without permethrin ok too? I am travelling from Adelaide to Alice Darwin Kakadu and the North West from mid Sept to mid Nov so know it will be hot and humid. How bad are the midges?!

G'day, permethrin is a chemical which dazes/confuses mosquito's. This is embedded in the fabric of the head net and will result in the mosquito dying after multiple contacts. This may be useful if you are in a tropical region with high incidence of malaria, dengue fever etc.
