Staff tip:This swag comes in a tightly compressed manner, it's easier to store and transport that way. Before use, we recommend leaving the swag unrolled for a few days to allow the mattress to expand to its full potential.
Staff tip:It's best practice to season your swag a few times, even if it comes seam sealed, pre−seasoned, or waterproofed. For more info, check out our blog post below.
Looking at some older models of these swags online, the Mitchell Expedition is an updated version of this with a few slight changes but essentially the same swag.

Using without poles?1 answer
Hi, I’m wondering if this swag can be used without the poles, e.g if I just want to use it inside for a night? Can I just roll it out and sleep in it? Also, can it be used without the centre pole, or does it sag too much?
Daryl - Melbourne, VIC(9 months ago)
G'day Daryl,
If you were just using it inside for the night that would be fine to roll it out and sleep on it. You would lose the structure without the centre pole, it would likely sag and the canvas will most likely be on top of you without the poles and if not tied out.

Waterhead rating1 answer
What is the waterhead rating for this swag?
Lea - Glen Iris, VIC (2 years ago)
G'day Lea,
We do have this information in the product details: "Not specified by Oztrail" This means that Oztrail have not undergone Waterhead rating testing on this item, and do not provide a waterproof guarantee.

Mitchell expedition vs Darche AWOL 9001 answer
I was looking at buying my first swag and am looking at either the OZtrail Mitchell expedition single it the Darche urban AWOL 900, I noticed the Darche has a better canvas but the OZtrail is seems to be far more popular. Which one would you recommend
Flynn - Ballarat(4 years ago)
G'day Flynn,
The Darche Swag does have a slightly heavier duty canvas, and a slightly higher head height. Overall they are both popular models, but the Oztrail may be a little more popular due to the slightly lower price point.

What ridge pole is compatible?1 answer
I seen a an answer saying that the OZtrail doesn’t fit...is it the end that doesn’t fit into the eyelets...could the be filed to fit? Thanks
Chris - 6025(5 years ago)
G'day Chris,
The Oztrail Centre Ridge Pole Kit is currently out of stock, however, the problem was that the Spigot ends were too large in diameter for the eyelets in this swag - we were suggesting they could be filed down to fit. We're hoping the new stock will fit the eyelets though! Keep an eye on the website for stock or click on the 'Notify Me' tab above.

Do I need to season this swag and how would I go about doing that? 1 answer
I am wondering if the Swag needs to be seasoned and how to do it also why it would need to be done
Georgia - Blackwood(5 years ago)
G'day Georgia,
We'd generally recommend seasoning any canvas swag. We've got a handy blog about how to season your swag here.

Can you use a ridge rail with this swag?1 answer
Can the oztrail ridge rail be used with this Swag and which rails can be used with it.
Joshua - 2154(5 years ago)
G'day Joshua,
Whilst the Mitchell Expedition Single Swag isnt designed with a Ridge Pole in mind, they do come with eyelets/spigot holes either end. The catch is that the Oztrail Ridge Pole spigots do not fit. Unfortunately we dont carry any other Ridge Pole options, so you may need to track down an alternative.

Strecher1 answer
What strecher would u recommend puting this swag on so it sits inline with the poles?
Mitch - Adelaide (5 years ago)
I've just had a quick look for you, Mitch, and come up with three potential options for the Mitchell Expedition swag which measures at 210 x 90cm width.
Would you have them in stock for delivery or collection this week?
Ben - Springton(5 years ago)
G'day Ben,
We do stock spare pole kits for the Mitchell Expedition Single swags. You can look at those here. You're welcome to place an order online or swing by to pick one up if you're heading into town. Just a heads up, if you come down to Keswick in the next few days you'll find we've had to close the store temporarily to clean up storm damage to our ceiling. We've still got staff at the front door to help customers and you could pay for a set here and then collect them from our warehouse in Thebarton. We're hoping the Keswick store will be back to normal this Friday but for now, this is the best option we have.

how well does it stand up against wet weather ? 1 answer
Planning on bringing Home with me to Ireland when I go, as you may know though stereotypes it rains a lot at home.
Andrew - Bulgunnia (6 years ago)
G'day Andrew,
The Oztrail Mitchell Expedition Single Swag has a Waterhead rating of 600mm, which means it's good for light showers for brief periods of time. If you're going to get heavy rain in Ireland, then I'd suggest that it's maybe not the greatest option for you. If you'd like to understand these Waterhead ratings a little better, you can check out our blog on the matter here.

Which bag suits this swag?1 answer
I just purchased this swag and when it arrived I discovered to my dismay it doesn't come with a bag. Which bag would you recommend?
Brandon - 2773(6 years ago)
G'day Brandon,
I would suggest that the best bag for your Oztrail Mitchell Expedition Single Swag would be the Oztrail Canvas Swag Bag - King Single. It should fit nicely in there!
Ben - Snowys(6 years ago)
Is this a king single?1 answer
just curious if the dimensions equate to a king single.
jake - singleton(6 years ago)
G'day Jake,
I've just checked with our swag expert, Nev, and he said that the Oztrail Mitchell Expedition Single Swag is as long as a King Single but is only as wide as a single mattress. So you'll get the extra length but not the extra width.

I see this is the new model. What is the difference between this model the old one?1 answer
Trying to understand the difference between the old and new models.
Peter - 7007(6 years ago)
G'day Peter,
Great question. Oztrail have made a few changes to the Mitchell Expedition swag. The two notable ones are that the canvas has been reduced from 330gsm to 230gsm and the mattress thickness from 6cm to 5cm.
Ben - Snowys(6 years ago)
Can you please provide the mattress dimensions?1 answer
Mitchell Expedition Single Swag.
Anthea - Gladstone(6 years ago)
G'day Anthea,
I've just pulled the tape measure out, tried not to compress the foam at all and got a measurement for the mattress of 208L x 88W x 5H cm.

What are the main differences between this swag, the Biker Swag and the Sturt Expedition?1 answer
What are the main differences between this swag, the Biker Swag and the Sturt Expedition?
Dave - Werribee(7 years ago)
G'day Dave,
The Oztrail Biker Swag is a lightweight and compact swag designed for bike touring so it's much lighter and smaller than most swags. This is reflected in the fabric type, space available in the swag and number of poles.
The Oztrail Mitchell Expedition and Oztrail Sturt Expedition are both fantastic entry level swags that in many respects are very much the same. The key differences are that the Sturt is a little smaller in size (10cm shorter in length and 15cm in width) and only has 2 poles, not 3 - the poles are also made of different materials.
